In early to midsummer, tall spikes of up to 50 nodding turkscap flowers in shades of pink or purplish red are produced above whorls of dark green leaves. The flowers are highly scented, though it's not the most pleasant smell, and it will grow in almost any soil in full sun or partial shade.
