Klein Adept Comp
The Adept Comp balances the desire for quality of ride performance with the need to have this at an affordable price. The Adept frame design is new for 2001 and is used throughout the Adept range - making this a fantastic bike to buy for later upgrades. It is stiffer than other full suspension bikes which improve climbing and traction in steeper regions.
When Klein set about designing the Adept, they had one aim in mind, to produce a dual suspension bike that was unequalled in its ability to be lightweight. The K-link system does not include a linkage point at the dropout which not only reduces weight but also reduces the need for maintenance. This also helps to keep the rear wheel on the ground to increase traction and improve performance on climbs. This also helps to keep pedalling and suspension forces separate. Gradient Tubing adds gradual tapers to increase strength where it is needed most without increasing the weight. This also makes the frame stiffer which improves rider efficiency. Klein use aerospace grade aluminium for improved strength and durability. Additional features include Gradient chainstays which taper from square to round to further increase strength. Internal cable routing not only helps to keep cables clean and makes the frame more aerodynamic but also actually increases the durability of the frame.
The rear shock is Fox Float Air which provides 2.75" of travel. At the front a Manitou SX fork provides 80mm of travel. These have one piece magnesium casting lower legs to reduce weight, and are sprung by a combination of coil and MCU. TPC damping uses a twin piston design. One piston is for compression damping and one is for rebound to allow for independent control. This runs in a low pressure system to reduce leaks. Manitou forks also use Micro-Lube which reduces time spent on maintenance. This is best used in conjunction with M-Prep grease and guns.DRIVETRAIN
The Adepts 27 speed drivetrain uses Shimano Deore for the front derailleur and shifters. The Deore front derailleur has a reinforced chain guide, which improves the shifting response by offering higher strength and rigidity. The rear derailleur is LX which has two fluorine coated pivot pins which reduce friction and provide lighter and more responsive shifting.
Shimano brakes are used with linear pull levers for fantastic performance. The levers are alloy for less weight.
Rolf Satellite wheels use ASYM offset spoke bed which minimize wheel dish and tension disparity at the rear. They use fewer spokes to decrease weight without negatively affecting strength through their paired spoke technology. The tyres are Bontrager Revolt Super X and have closely spaced knobs which mean that traction superb. Was £1599.99 Save £400
