Challenge12-000 BTU Portable Air ConditionerI got a 2nd user one but no instruction manual. It does give out plenty of cold air but you need to set the working temperature first in cooling mode I eventually figured. It is noisy but then again if you`re trying to blot out the noise from your antisocial neighbours it can actually be a boon. 4 out of 5Richard Warwick04/05/2009 14:46:42

Challenge12-000 BTU Portable Air ConditionerI bought this a few weeks ago and it is pretty good at cooling my whole flat, which is 45 square metres and very good when used in one room with doors closed. It really is quite noisy, so you will need to turn the TV up to watch it over the top of the noise. It has started to smell a bit damp, which is a bit worrying as it still very new, any one else had this problem? 3 out of 5Julian Burgess29/07/2006 21:40:16

MATSUIEC1000This product does not work. We bought it to cool down our baby`s room as overheating is very dangerous for young babies. We have a monitor in his room that also displays the temperature and this unit has not reduced the temperature at all, not even one degree! We shall attempt to take it back to the store that we bought it from 1 out of 5Frances18/06/2009 09:03:35

Ebac2850eVery disappointed in the product. I had it on in a room with a wet blanket hanging up and it only removed some of the water. The room was damp but the product doesn`t live up to 18ltrs per day. I only got 1 litre in 3 days. Then it broke down. I sent it back and it was repaired and then it seemed to work as in the lights were on and noise from the fan but no water in the collection tank. So it was sent back again. When it came back there was smoke coming out of the front. So it went back again. Now the delivery driver says that he is constantly collecting and delivering Ebac products and one guy had over 8. Basically I wish I had never bought it. My opinion is that any company that can sell large numbers and seem to have so many rejects ( based on other reviews and my experience, must be making big margins otherwise they would have gone out of business long ago. Its a horrible product and the last time I buy British for the sake of patriotism.

ChallengeSilver Air Cooler with HeaterI bought this product a couple of years ago for my Gran. It did not keep her cool and the heater blasts. Then it started going on it`s own and vibrated internally like it is on. I returned it. There is a later model of this on the market so if it`s Challenge you are after try that... about #30 incl p&p on eBay. 1 out of 5Amanda07/09/2008 10:01:49

ChallengeSilver Air Cooler with HeaterI have had this for precisely two days. I will be returning it as soon as can get to an Argos. It has a really powerful fan. Its way too hot to try the heating function but I bet that works fine. The remote control is OK, but the receiver is uni-directional so you have to face it for it to work. As an air cooler, however, it fails dismally. With or without ice blocks I was able to get precisely half a degree drop in temperature (and for all I know that was simply because of the air circulation). I am well aware that this is not an air conditioner and I wasn`t expecting miracles, but I sit near to an evaporative air cooler at work and I know that they do actually generate cooling. This item isn`t one of them, being no more than a very expensive fan. 1 out of 5Les Ishmore29/07/2006 21:41:32

AmcorAC705On some websites this is listed as an air conditioner - it is NOT. I have found this device to be nothing but an expensive, glorified fan. A thermometer placed directly in the cooled flow of air coming from this machine registered 1 degree C ABOVE the temperature of the air going in! I had intended to use the air cooler to reduce the heat in a small bedroom by directing a cool flow of air across it from the direction of the open door. Two and a half hours later there was no discernable difference in comfort. I approached the makers to discuss the problem and was simply advised that this is an air cooler not an air conditioner, buy an air conditioner. In my view I wasted my money. Be certain that the device will be suitable for the purpose you have in mind before comitting yourself. 1 out of 5Hot and bothered13/09/2005 08:34:49

Mountain BreezeUltrasonic HumidifierIt`s difficult to find humidifiers, but (for me at least) they alleviate the effects of central heating and dry air throughout the winter, and also can help people suffering from blocked airways. I found this one useful. It has a range of settings both for output and density. However, in practise the lower settings are not effective and the higher settings tend to pump out a lot of wetness (I dampened the bed one time!). The water in the tank lasts about two days if in constant use. It`s fiddly to fill, and the air vent falls out as soon as you turn it upside down to fill it. However, overall it`s worth buying. 4 out of 5Tricia11/12/2007 13:22:20

Prem-I-AirPFSG3-30This is a very sturdy, powerful, and stylish fan. The all metal construction means that it has a fair amount of weight to it. If I had to make one negative comment it would be that it is not the quietest fan I have come across. This may not be a problem for some, but means that this is not the type of fan that you would purchase for a bedroom as I am sure you would have problems sleeping. That aside, it is well worth buying.4 out of 5Amazon Reviewer23/07/2006 01:01:01

AmcorPLM15000EHBought this unit almost exactly one year ago and have been pretty impressed. It looks much better than most portzable units. However, you need to be realistic - all portable units will be relatively noisy and so is this. One of our main concerns was that we wouldn`t have to constantly empty condensate -the unit ran all of last summer from 8am to 9pm, seven days a week, and only needed emptying twice. This year we had a problem where it needed emptying every two hours, but Amcor arranged a courier collection and have agreed to replace the unit with a new one - within four days of the collection. Their customer service is very good. Overall a good product that does `what it says on the tin` - keeps us cool and reduces humidity very effectively. 4 out of 5Matt - Berkshire14/07/2006 09:08:50

AmcorAirline 2000MManaged to get one of these before the latest heat wave. Everyone runs out of stock as soon as the sun comes out!

As long as you make sure the hose goes out of a window and you don't try and cool an entire house this unit works well. In a large double bedroom, with the door closed, it is like having an oasis of cool in your house. In my small home office with the PC and associated gear running it makes working a hundred times more comfortable. I move it from office to bedroom once I have finished working.

The only down side, which I guess is the same with all air conditioning units is that within minutes of you turning it off the room starts feeling humid and hot again very quickly.

If you don't mind having the unit on all the time during hot weather then this is brilliant.

An added bonus is that it really does work extremely well as a dehumidifier which really makes the air feel fresh.

Highly recommended for one room at a time.

ChallengeAir CoolerBeen using one of these in the bedroom every night for the past 2 weeks now. Left on all night it does definately reduce the temperature. EbacDehumidifier 2400E WhiteExpensive short-lived filters. Works OK though. Dislike electronic control panel fan speed control because you can't easily tell the current speed, and you have to cycle through 'off' to get to where you want to be. This isn't good for electromechanical item.

Nowhere near as good as the Homedry 870 that I also own, although that was plagued by a water leak that 'dissolved' the chipboard lower case.

ChallengeAir CoolerThe only difference between this, and a fan is that this has a HUMIDIFY function. This works by filling a large 5L tank in the bottom of it with water AND ICE! It then blows a fan through a filter dipped in the water. The affect... minimal. I think the only reason that it cools better than a fan is that it has that ice in it, which melts fast... It`s good if you want to pretend that you`ve got a air con. The shape and remote do this. But for actually cooling the room... I`d get a nice ceiling fan from Argos for half the price. Took it back. It was a waste of time. 2 out of 5Waste of time19/04/2007 15:20:12

airforceSplit Mobile Air Conditioner 14000 BTUI use this Air conditioner in my basement. In the de-humidify mode it throws heat out of the pipe and cold out of the fron top vent, however it seems to collect very little water to be drained off despite working for several days. Another de-humidfy unit that is much smaller and in the same place takes out a gallon of water at least over a 24 hour period.

PROLINESAC100EW-USo hot, you need an air conditioning unit...then best pass on this one. States that it should be good enough to keep a good sized double bedroom cool. Well, it`s 34c outside, and the unit has been on all day, with door shut and the window just open enough to vent it, and the room is ONLY now at 28c. Thought it really should do better than that for £250. Had it just 2 days...and strongly considering taking it back to claim refund. 2 out of 5Tony, Sutton29/07/2006 21:41:43

AlaskanCompact 9000BTUBe very carefull before ordering anything from this supplier www.alaskanaircon.com. You will have major problems if anything goes wrong with the unit and you need to return it.

I don`t know if this is a really small shop and are out of their depth but the customer care line that they operate never gets answered. 90% of the time it is engaged, probably with people waiting for an answer and if you are lucky enough to get through it will be ring and ring... not exactly customer service.

So your only other avenue of contact will be through email. Sometimes they do answer sometimes they dont.

I bought the air con unit from this shop and it leaked water as soon as switched on. It took me 4 working days to get in contact with the shop. I was starting to think it was a rip of site the dealt dodgy goods.

When i eventually did get through (via email) after several attempts they eventually sent out a courier to pickup the item. 1 week later i hadn`t heard from them and no payment had been made back into my account. After phoning they said they hadn`t received it back.

After several threatening letters promising court action they suprisingly found it and said they would credit my card back. 1 week after this no payment into my account.

BEFORE ORDERING ANY GOODS FROM THIS SUPPLIER PHONE THEIR CUSTOMER CONTACT LINE AND YOU WILL SEE WHAT I MEAN

AlaskanPowerful 15000BTU ConditionerI bought one, and it was the worst money spent ever. It was initially a very good unit, and was an efficient service offered, but then things went wrong. Within 20 minutes of use, it started leaking rapidly. When I EVENTUALLY!!!!! got hold of Alaskan Air Con to explain this, they said that this was normal!! They said that it will leak when the internal water tray is full. Full after 20 minutes... that`s no good, as you couldn`t leave it on unattended. The instruction book said it would turn itself off and buzz every 30 seconds when the tray was full. It did neither, and as a result, my laminate flooring is runined, and has to be replaced. `Apparently`, the instruction book, and my common sense were wrong. Can you believe that it wouldn`t turn itself off? That`s dangerous, as the bottom casing is metal... water, metal and electric definately do not mix well. There was obviously a crack or split in the internal tray but they refused to admit it, and kept saying that it is normal for water to just pour out of the bottom. Very difficult trying to get a refund, as they don`t answer their phone, and hang up when they do. They were also quite rude. AVOID!! 1 out of 5Angry Customer29/07/2006 21:42:36

Just say you brought the item the previous week and they will refund to a gift card allowing you to purchase a replacement or use the funds for something else in stock. Returning things to argos with a receipt is more of a pain if you want a replacement than if you don`t have one. If you had of had the reciept, they were likely to offer a repair instead of a replacement. 0 out of 5Anon29/07/2006 21:42:40

ChallengeAir CoolerI was concerned, having read the previous report. An air-conditoner is 3 times as much. However, it`s working okay. The temperature is coming down in the room, not instantly, as everything needs to cool - the furniture, fabrics etc. Refreezing the ice packs every day and keeping the water cool is important, such as replenshing with cooled water from the fridge also helps. Pleased with purchase. 0 out of 5John14/07/2006 09:08:42

Prem-I-AirEvaporative Air CoolerThe speed options allow you to set it to H(igh) and (SL)ow at the same time, ie both LEDs are lit. Cannot figure out why. Also, the mode has 2 options; cool and warm. Well that`s fair enough but what does it mean when they are both off? Does it mean colder than cool or does it make the unit act as just a fan without any cooling? 0 out of 5Jez2k17/06/2006 12:18:06
