YamahaYSTFSW100 SilverFantastic small sub, voted 4 stars from What Hi-Fi, at this price I didn`t expect as much bass, shakes the house & rattles the windows. Picked it up from Richer Sounds, they price matched the cheapest store from the net, knocked off £56 just like that AND gave me a good cable for half price. To be honest, if you want Hi-Fi or LCD TV`s etc, don`t even look any where else, Richer will beat the lot and that`s why I`ve spent nearly £2000 in that store. As they say `we`ll beat anyone `till it hurts` and they`re damn right !! 5 out of 5Simon06/04/2007 13:15:14

SonyDAVIS10I bought this product specifically looking for small speakers and even considered a simple 2.1 system. My priorities was to hook up the PS3 and TV without massess of speakers and wires. I must say overall I am pleased with the system though feel the DVD upscaling is not that good...however I do have PS3 as the preferred DVD playback choice. Sound from the speakers is good ( but I do have a smallish room) with the massive benefit of them being very small and unobtrusive.... which was the selling point for me. Would tend to agree with others that a few more connectivity options would be great but overall a very good basic sound system. If you want really want mega HIFI sound and huge Cinema experience then buy seperates but this ticks all the right boxes without going over the top!!4 out of 5Amazon Reviewer06/09/2008 01:01:01

SonyDAVIS10The reason I bought this peice of kit is because we have a big, flat TV and it does not have great sound. Actually most of the new TVs dont have great sound for the simple reason that the speakers are facing backwards. What I was looking for was a system that would deliver very clear sound and not upset my wife with large speakers, and this system does exactly that. Add to that that the price here is very reasonable and I feel I got value for money too. But... There will be people out there who are interested in whether this thing can deliver HiFi quality sound. The review of this system in the Gramophone and in other mags certainly suggest it can, but as far as I am concerned that really isnt so. The sound is "cold", which is no problem if you like that kind of sound, but it is also thin. As a result of the thinness the sense of scale is poor and worse still there is no well defined sound stage - even in the special audio mode - and this is critical to good HiFi. Instead you get a very clear, but rather nondirectional sound with no real guts or substance. The system WILL go right down to those low bass notes and that is obviously desirable. Also when the system is required to go low it remains musical and does not descend into toneless thuds - but it never becomes exciting and engaging, despite this ability. So, as a HiFi system this is not that good. So, is it any good as a Home Cinema system? In my opinion its no better than "good enough". With home cinema you forget all your concerns about HiFi and you start looking for thrills - and as far as I am concerned this unit does not deliver much of that. It is competent, and it is never unpleasant to listen to, in fact I woul go so far as to say it is unobtrusive, but it never has your heart racing. You do get 5.1 surround sounds - always depending on how well mixed the DVD was in the first place of course - but they will never have you out of your seat. So its not HiFi, and its not a thrill-ride Cinema system. So what is this thing really good for? It is good for what I said in pargraph one. It is a very significant improvment over flat-TV sound at a very acceptable price AND if you can hide the large Sub well enough and you conceal all the wires well enough, you should avoid any marital stress. Thats about it. 4 out of 5Amazon Reviewer02/08/2008 01:01:01

ScottSD76 Piano BlackWell what can I say I mean these babies can thump, for the wattage 250rms I think thats wrong cos I am using a 800watt max teac digital amp and they can go and go without distorting. The sound quality is something else so precise and clean bass responce man u will not be upset u may think looking at them what small 8`` speaker that cant do anything well your wrong cos these will deliver the power so clean and the treble is wicked tooo. 5 out of 5keepitreal01/08/2009 08:55:50

Monitor AudioSilver S6 - RosemahI was looking for a pair of speakers for around 2000$ (CAD). I listened to Focal, B&W and Monitor audio ... Focal were cold and without any warmth, B&W were either too bassy (604) and 603`s lacked clarity. The Monitor audio S6 stood out of the pack instantly. Songs I`ve heard a thousand times sounded like never before. It was like the first time I heard those songs. Great quality. Cheap for this kind of quality. I would recommend Monitor-Audio S6 to anyone who likes a good balance between bass and clarity. 5 out of 5Olyster Hi-Fi31/07/2007 08:01:51

SONYSSMF400HThe speakers are actually pretty good, the previous guy`s must have been defective. These are not quite studio monitors, but are getting close. A comparison I did against the AKG K240 studio headphones, a studio standard for decades, shows that these speakers actually sound very similar to the AKGs. Five stars for Sony. 5 out of 5Cloudy14/05/2007 15:37:38

TeacLS100UTEAC LS-100U are the best bookshelf loudspeakers appeared recently (if they are available any more, which I`m not sure.) The story began much earlier, in the `60s, when LS 3/5 are invented by British - Rogers, KEF, Chartwell... OK, TEAC LS-100U are not exactly on the same level of professional sound quality, but they are close enough to outperform contemorery rivals long distant and far away (!). Simply `cause they are kinda vintage sounding sort - warm, punchy and musical. Look at the drivers! So nostalgicaly similar to T-27 and B-11o, legendary KEF speakers. They remind even in sound. And is there possibly bigger reccomandation? For these kind of money, absolutely the best buy. I enjoy their exciteful and truthful (!) performance mostly in near field sessions, treating them as very serious and competent small studio monitors.

Acoustic SolutionsDS533This is my 3rd time into home systems, I have tried 2 expensive ones in the £180 - £200 mark. This being only £80, thought it might be a bit poor but hell it is brill. The remote I am used to as the others are very small too, keep your house tidy and you wont loose it!!

I have it connected to my comp downstairs via optical and it picks up all the little bits up that the others I had missed.

Great price, only probs are you only get two stands, so they are dumped and bought for new ones...the other prob is slight hum from speakers in stand by mode, when you switch off the power at back of sub it goes but then does all the settings.

Still a great product.

Monitor AudioSilver RS1This is an amazing piece of kit!!.Recently purchased a pair,as i felt, although good, something was missing when listening through my jamo speakers. This speaker outclasses them by a considerable margin.Anything you play through them has an amazing 3d quality to it, as long as you partner them with good quality seperates.Treble quality is really great, very open sounding but not at all harsh.Bass quality is also surprising given the size,it wont pin you to the wall, but is more than enough in small to medium size rooms. If u are after a high quality compact speaker for a smaller listening room, these come highly recommended. 5 out of 5Martin Hardy27/11/2006 10:25:35

Monitor AudioSilver RS6As a lover of 2 channel systems I have spent the last 4 months sourcing a speaker that will not only sound great but give me that extra bass needed in watching dvd`s. After testing speakers from a host of companies incl b&w, jamo, dynaudio, tannoy, bose, boston, infinity to name a few I was literally blown away buy the sound of the MONITOR AUDIO RS6`s. I fired up a couple of my test tracks fom pink floyd`s division bell and WOW these speakers have an awsome open soundstage with plenty of detail & refinement. When the bass notes come out, the depth of bass on offer is fantastic, it is punchy and clean. I purchased mine finished in beautiful walnut and for the money is, in my opinion, that of speakers near double the price. They look top class with a sound too match and don`t need a lot of power to make them sing ``highly recommended`` 5 out of 5HOGIE,16/03/2006 10:33:46

Monitor AudioStudio 2 SpeakersBeautiful Vocal, detail, fast, very good highs and mid range.

Big & full soundsatge. Sound bigger than its size.

Great with classical music, especially with violin and chamber music.

Wonderful for jazz except bass would not be able to go very low due to size and frequency response of speakers.

In a small to medium size room it is a pair of fantastic audiophile speakers.

Need good source and good cables to sound good.

And need power around 100watts and above for solid state power amplification and at least 40 watts and above of tube to sound good.

Definitely not for low power single ended tube amps.

If it does not sound good initially, don"t worry.

These little monitors need a long burn-in period to open up.

It took me more than 3 months of usage until my pair finally runs-in.

Finishing is excellent.

This is my third pair of Monitor audio speakers.

I have the old Monitor 9 Gold and the MA-800 Gold both are excellent and more full range than the Studio 2. I still enjoy them. But the studio two sounds clear and sweet and has its own charm.

Every bit the Monitor Audio Quality in a small package.

SONYSSMB150HAfter reading a few reviews I decieded to get the sonys. I got these for my rear"s on suround setup.

They sound good as a mid speaker should. Not much mid-lows. you will have to depend on a sub for your lows.

over all they sound really good. And like I said for the money you cant go wronge.

Enjoy.

Part 2:

When I first got the speakers I hooked them up on stereo mode just to see how they would sound palying some different music titles. I was really impressed with the sound quality of these little speakers.

If you are looking to use them a book shelf than I would recommend 6.5" speaker. But If you are adding rears to your suround setup than these will do the job good.

MissionM35 CHERRYIve been in possesion of a pair of Mission M35's now for 2 weeks running off a Sony strdb930 receiver alongside passive paradigm sub woofer.

I ran them fairly gently on music and tv for 3 days or so minimum recommended run in was 24hrs playtime before pushing them too hard! but after the 3 days had a house party christmas eve had them absolutely slammin dance music til about 4am! ditto New Years Eve, and, well they just took it in their stride no probs! As for "hifi" performance well ive never heard Beverly Knights, Sista Sista sound better on any other sensibly priced domestic set up! Full tight bass, strings gliding in beautifully behind Beverly's gorgeous, crystal clear vocal, with crisp sharp but not harsh treble. On surround sound performance I watched T3 dvd on New Year's day fantastic with that as well !Can't say what the smaller versions in the range will be like but i doubt that anyone would be disapointed, as for the big M35's they sound and perform as good as they look!

YAMAHATSS10Yesterday, I finally got my hands on the Yamaha TSS-10, which I got for a special price of USD190 (converted) here in the Philippines. I find it the most affordable in the range of 5.1ch speakers with an amplifier considering the numerous sound decoding capabilities it has to offer.

Setting-up was not difficult at all. The manual provided helped me a lot in the proper installation of the five satellite speakers plus the subwoofer. The manual tells you how the positioning of the satellite speakers should be proportioned and also in equal distance so the surround system would be perfectly achieved.

It was my first time to use optical digital cables, which made me more impressed with this jukebox. I carefully connected the opticals on my Pioneer DVD player and the analogs on my desktop PC. Since I was still cleaning up, I decided to play some mp3s on my PC. I felt kind of disappointed at first because it didn't make the loud sound I was used to. The explosion, ear-deafening sound coming from everywhere is not present. The sound is very precise, exact, clear and very crispy even at the loudest volume. As I was about to finish cleaning up, I find myself decreasing the volume of the amplifier from time to time. The system totally deceives you into thinking that it is not loud enough, but truth is, even at the loudest volume, this system does deliver its promise of prowess sound. I've never realized that I had great mp3s thanks to this jukebox.

The next soundproof I did was with my Pioneer DVD player. I finished watching Jeepers Creepers 2 without even realizing that only the left and right front panel speakers were working. Even so, it felt like I was in the same bus where the varsity players were mobbed. I then realized that I have to adjust the mode in the amplifier and switch the settings to DTS and simply check if the center speaker is on. Afterwards, all is set. I viewed The Hire DVD back to back with the Animatrix and The Broadway Concert of one of our local artists. There were times when I got surprised with sounds coming from the rear speakers. The system was clearly audible that I only set the volume at around 5 to 6 (7 is the max). This thing is just way to cool.

The next morning, I got a word from my mom saying how loud noises can tear people's eardrums. She told me that she could hear my sounds from the other room. I was totally deceived and still in awe. Once the system gets used to your surroundings, then the power never stops. Now, I've never felt so excited going home. Thanks to Yamaha.

ELTAXJUPITERbeen looking at these speakers for awhile but was a little cautious wether to buy them as i could find no reviews on them and couldn't find any that had been setup so i could listen to them.

What had orignaly attracted me to these speakers was the price £79.99 at Currys, reduced by a whopping £120.00 Anyway I finally got to hear them and was pleasently surprised at the depth and clarity of sound.

I decided to go ahead and purchased a set. After getting them home and taking them out of the huge box they come in I connected them to an old Technics Prologic amp and Kiss DP-450 DVD player, the first DVD we sampled was Lord Of The Rings, the sound was GREAT the centre speaker is clear and crisp, the front speakers have a depth that surprised me the surround speakers also have a nice sound to them. I have still yet to purchase a good set of quality speaker cables and a 5.1 amp min of 100watt output as they are powerful speakers.

If you're looking for a great sound home cinema set then go for these, but remember you need an amp, the cable supplied with them is cheap so you will need to replace this. I would say value for money excellent, still haven't tested them properly so can't really say much else yet. Im going to give them a 5/5

Monitor AudioSilver S1 - Black OakQuite fabulous. work best on stands. A clear articulate treble with a lucid bass that is easy to follow. Amazing sound from such a tiny speaker. Found myself noticing all sorts of hidden joys within the music. They require good ancillaries to really get the best from them.

All in all the best speakers of this size i have yet to hear.. Recommended.

Missionm7c1 Centre SpeakerThis centre channel speaker is a capable performer. It provides crystal clear dialogue and sound for an incredible price. After auditioning many brands both in shop and at home (JBL, Athena, Energy, Jamo, Klipsch) it was without question the best buy I could have made, in my opinion. I should add I am quite critical when it comes to sound, not as a self-professed audiophile but as a musician.

It integrates very well with my M73 fronts. It's size is a bonus as it also integrates well into my decor, sitting atop an armoire and not dominating it or attracting attention to itself whilst still providing incredible sound.

VIDEOLOGICZXR-750I own them for a week now, its really a good set of surround sound speakers. Will be an alternative to Creative's 6600 speaker set. I am using this 7.1 speakers with only my onboard Intel sound card which supports 5.1. And it sounds great! the bass is enough to feel the hmph!

Though it may not be able to compete with logitech's woofer but I felt that a balance is the bass and clearity of sound is more important. Cable layout is like any other 5.1 system, I don't find this complicated.Videologic should be introduced round the world as they deserve the recognition.

SONYHTK25As I already had a dvd player I wanted a home theatre kit that offered DTS, Pro Logic II but without a player.

The speakers are nice and small so are not intrusive but they give a great sound. The actual unit is very small and nicely styled. The difference in sound quality with the kit on as opposed to the TV is superb and at only £199 it is a bargain from the trusted Sony name.

WharfedalePowercube 12AI've only just got this. It's fantastic value.

I've wired it to the second set of pre amp out connectors on my Denon PRA1200 pre amp just to extend the bass performance of my Kef 105/3's. Eventually I'll be using it in my proposed AV system (LFE).

After a very limited audition, the Powercube seems to blend seamlessly with the Kef's without any boom or loss of control when adjusted to it's lowest crossover setting. Toccata and Fugue sounds particularly impressive. I've also noticed an improvement in the mid range, voices now sound even more open. I still need to do a bit of fine tuning with my Hi-Fi News test CD. It will be interesting to hear how it performs in my proposed AV system - a scene in Gladiator in DTS (Tiger in the Coliseum) should be a good first test.

Initially I had a slight hum problem (sub woofer is very close to my listening position, so any small hum is noticeable). I have now nearly eradicated this by only earthing the screened signal wire (foil and copper webbing) at the pre amp end and using a separate earth from the pre amp to the subwoofer. I've also had to run an earth wire from the high level negative terminal on the subwoofer back to the earth on the three pin plug.

Monitor AudioSilver 8iSince buying the silver 8's my music has recieved a leg up in quality.

Great for stereo sound, superb for movies, and can't wait for super audio CD to come out, so I can put them through their paces.

My mate has a pair of Linn Espek, the silver 8's easily match them for quality and sound, if a little shy compared to bass, but for quarter of the price who's complaining !

Polk AudioAtrium 45 Powered Speaker - BlackI have owned these speakers for over a year now. To me they sound pretty darn clear. However, I must say they are lacking in bottom end and I am not sure why polk keeps bragging about how mcuh bass they put out. I use them as my desk speakers inside my office. This seems to me to be a place where bass is increased. Overall, great speaker. 4 out of 5Felipe06/08/2007 13:31:42

Acoustic SolutionsAS134This product isn`t a 5.1 decoder, it is speakers and an amp. But it will provide 5.1 when it is connected to a DVD WITH 5.1 output sockets. Personally, I intend to connect mine to a A/V surround decoder so I can connect all my devices together and then I won`t have to keep swapping everything around. Its not difficult to work out really 4 out of 5Matt16/02/2007 18:07:52

LGFA-P3000I use this system with my PS2. Some games sound pretty good with it - particularly GTA Vice City which has a special kind of Pro Logic on it, apparently! Still, whatever. I watched a couple of films on it too, not too bad. The one thing I will say is that I compared the same music CD (i have two copies) on the LG and then on my relatively cheap sony hifi and I will say that in Pro Logic or just stereo the LG seems to lack a bit of treble, despite the speakers being full range. Didn`t really notice it on movies or games and am relatively pleased with the whole set up, though be warned that the sub is pretty huge! 4 out of 5Simon H Pieman14/07/2006 09:08:35
