Ive had mine for six months now and have deliberately waited before posting a review. Having had other machines before this one, with often very poor results, I decided to go for the best. And this machine does not disappoint. It is the very best. Mine is used 2-3 times a week and Ive made many different types of bread and doughs. The timer facility is superb and I have NEVER had a failure yet. Disappointments were frequent with other machines. My brother-in-law was so impressed with the quality of the bread that he bought one and threw his old machine away!
My advice to all is..if you want a bread machine then this is the only one to have!
By the way...if you, like me, manage to get your recipe book messed up by constant use, then go to Panasonics website. You can download the manual from there. I printed off and laminated the recipes and they are now wipe clean! Very useful in the kitchen!

When the machine arrived, the paddles were tight and it produced a wonderful first loaf of bread, but after only a week we had made five loaves, three of those were not cooked properly. Then my wife told me it was making a noise, I then noticed the paddle was very loose, that loaf was also spoiled. As I have already said the paddle was initially very tight and is now very loose, if it were supposed to be loose it would be loose on delivery we are talking all metal parts here, this cant be right so it must be a problem. Its being returned in under two weeks, not sure whether to try another one...

We are avid Panny users, a Panasonic household, and have been a customer for over 30 years we at present own five other Panasonic items, Plasma 37` TV, Hard drive & DVD recorder, Microwave, FZ7 Camera and have been delighted with them all.

I am surprised at such a big company with a reputation to protect, has not made more effort to assure customers. Why have Panasonic not commented so far to try and help the people with problems; if they cant improve their customer service, it will hit confidence in their whole range of products in the future.
So come on Panasonic, help you customers, and tell us if this is a fault that we need to be concerned about.

This is a great product, however, so is the 254, which I wish I got given I doubt I will use the raisin/nut compartment.
Lovely fresh bread give or take the odd 4 hour wait (if you do a full cycle) there are other quicker cycles.

This breadmaker is fantastic, it is easy to use and has never failed us. The recipes are good and accurate, there are lots of different options to choose from. We have not regretted buying this breadmaker in any way. The best thing is to set it off before bed time on the delay timer and wake up to the fantastic smell of fresh bread!

I bought this machine with some reluctance as its a bit more expensive than a lot of others. Ive tried 2 bread makers before this one and this is most definately the best. It is very quiet as it kneeds, you can make lovely large loaves (compared to other machines) as it makes up to 2lb and the instruction booklet/recipe book is comprehensive. It includes basic, wholewheat, rye, french, italian, sandwich, soda bread, spelt, gluten free, pizza dough, chelsea & hot cross bun dough, panettone, croissant dough AND cake recipes, plus plenty of varieties within each catagory. I havent had chance to make all of them yet, but have tried quite a few and they ALL taste and look good! It tells you step by step which ingredients to add and what each ingredient does to the bread. The raisin and nut dispenser is ingenious-you dont have to wait indoors to add the seeds or fruit at the right time or when it beeps at you-it does all that for you by keeping those ingredients in a seperate compartment and drops them into the mix automatically at the right time. Anyone could make bread with this, as long as you can measure out the ingredients properly (there is a double ended measuring spoon and a liquid measuring cup included but youll need weighing scales!) The digital display is easy to read and tells you when its resting & counts down to when your bread is ready. The timer is great-you can set it to start making bread early in the morning so you wake up to beautiful fresh bread. This is the only breadmaker for me, your money will not be wasted!

When we bought this, I thought wed use it occasionally at weekends and it would be a pleasant luxury. However, it has become one of our most used gadgets and is in use virtually every day and sometimes more than once. It makes great bread that makes bought bread now seem incredibly disappointing. The best feature is the timer - without the timer, it really would be difficult to have a fresh loaf ready for breakfast or even lunch. But with this, you just add a few ingredients before you go to bed, set the timer and its all ready at whatever time you want. We also make our own pizza dough which took a bit to perfect but now knocks the socks off bought pizzas. I really recommend this machine. The only thing Id say is that we havent really used the raisin dispenser so I guess we could have had even better value with the cheaper SD244 version.

This has to be the best machine you will ever buy. It consistently produces loaves of the highest quality, even using unbranded flour bought from budget supermarkets. The timer means you can load it at your convenience and have the bread ready up to 13 hours later - wonderful to wake up in the morning to the smell of fresh bread! The bread stays fresh for 2 days by which time it is usually all eaten. The only thing to watch is that you add enough water otherwise the paddle sticks inside the loaf and is hard to remove.

As novice breadmakers we found this to be an excellent and consistent machine making superb bread from the first try.

The panasonic breadmaker was recommended to us as the BEST breadmaker,& out of the 3 makes we have had, over approx.10 years,it certainly is the best. The instructions are easy to follow & there is a variety of different recipes. It has an automatic Raisin/nut dispenser so no need to be listening for the beeps. The taste of the bread far outshines shop bought bread & we would recommend this breadmaker to anyone.

After alot of research into breadmakers, which was the best value for money, which one gave the best performance etc, I decided on this one. According to the reviews that I read this breadmaker was by far one of the best. I shopped around and Amazon gave the best price and free delivery (a bonus).
I gave the breadmaker to my husband for Christmas and he hasnt stopped raving about it since, he loves it.
It bakes wonderful bread even using Asdas own strong white bread flour, you can choose the size of the loaf, the crust and it has a 13 hour timer so you can wake up to the smell of fresh bread in the morning.
In alot of the reviews many people stated that since they started using their breadmaker they had never bought shop bought bread again, I was dubious about these statements but lo and behold we have not bought any shop bought bread since Christmas.
This breadmaker has straight forward and easy to follow instructions, we have tried various versions of white and brown bread but we have yet to try the many other types that we can make, planning to do this when my husband has a week off, time to play and try.
I thoroughly recommend this breadmaker to a novice or to someone who is planning a replacement for an older model. Well done Panasonic.

We were told by a relative that the Panasonic SD 255 (with nut dispenser) was the best on the market. We have been delighted with it and havent bought a loaf of bread since we bought it in December. Its fun experimenting with and adapting the many recipes. You can load it before going to bed and when you make your early morning tea you can take out your loaf just as the baking cycle is compled. Hot buttered toast made 30 mins before takes some beating!

This is a perfect present for a man. It is easy for them to be successful every time and they have the satisfaction of receiving genuine praise for providing a delicious product for their family to eat. All hunter-gatherers should have one. This machine is easy to use and most importantly clean up afterwards, my husband does it all, even replenishment of supplies! Thank you Panasonic for creating it and Amazon, which had the best price and delivered to the door.

I bought this at the beginning of December 2008 and have used it almost daily since then. It consistently turns out excellent bread and I have tried most recipes in the book provided by Panasonic. A viewing window would be nice but is not essential. 100% wholemeal is a bit heavy but 70% is excellent. The reviewer who said the paddle was loose hasnt read the instructions! The paddle is meant to be loose. This is my third breadmaker and the best yet.

Panasonic SD255 Breadmaker with Raisin/Nut Dispenser
I got this to replace my old Morphy Richards breadmaker which only made hardcore for the driveway. It is such a difference in that it makes what it claims in the handbook- gone are the solid lumps from the old MR unit to be replaced with soft fresh bread- try using Wrights `Ciabatta` breadmix from Tesco. 2 hours later you have the best bread i have ever tasted.

Just got this machine. First try on the first day we got it was a raisin/walnut wholemeal loaf. Came out perfect and as good as bakery bread and we know what went into it. Wonderful.

After reading every review I could lay my eyes on for every bread machine available I decided to go for this one. I was a little worried that it would be a five minute wonder, a bit like a sandwich toaster, seems like a good idea at the time but when the times come to clean it, not only is it difficult its also a bit of a pain.

This bread maker is absolutely brilliant! It makes bread, thats what it does, the best tasting bread I have had in many years. It is simple to use, the instructions are clear and concise and the recipes are spot on. Loading the ingredients takes 5 minutes, close the lid and switch it on, choose your loaf and amazingly 4 hours later you have baked your own bread. How easy is that!

Some tips for those are new to bread making:
Follow the instructions precisely, especially for the ingredients, dont be tempted to add just a little more of this or that, if you do your bread may fail.

Buy accurate digital scales that weigh liquid, although Panasonic include a measuring cup it is far more accurate to weigh the water. 1ml = 1gramme.
Use luke warm water, have the butter or oil at room temperature, this cuts the resting time, you will notice when you first switch on the machine, it seems to do nothing for some time, dont panic the machine is making sure that all of the ingredients are at the same temperature before mixing.

Do not be tempted to open the lid and have a peek, trust me, this machine works beautifully, dont worry about the mixing blade being loose on the shaft, its supposed to be like that, when metal gets hot it expands, if the blade was a tight fit you would not be able to remove it for some time.

In summary: If you are thinking about purchasing a bread machine, this one will not disappoint you; I know its more expensive than some of the others out there but in my view its the best. The ingredients are simple; you do not need to add milk powder or any other additives, just natural stuff.

It is quiet in operation, a breeze to use, the build quality is very good, the bread pan is a thick robust cast metal which is very easy to get in and out, the main thing for me is the cleaning, its so easy, it takes no more than a wipe out with a damp cloth, fantastic!
Buy it and you will never go back to shop bought bread again, except perhaps for `Tiger bread` yummy!

I have no baking experience, so was impressed when my first loaf came out absolutely delicious (organic with many different seeds added). I try to eat most things organic, but my local Tesco superstore has stopped selling organic bread (presumably because demand has dropped). Im really looking forward to baking all sorts of different bread e.g. pesto and pine nut, and fruit loaf - as well as pizza bases and cakes.

I was worried about adding the seeds as it says they can mark the non-stick tin, but this wasnt a problem.

I bought the Panasonic SD255 breadmaker on the strength of the Amazon reviews, together with recommendation from friends and its definitely been one of my best kitchen buys, I just love it. In previous years I have read that people buy breadmakers in response to hype and they are quickly banished to the back of the cupboard. Not this one though, I cant see me ever buying bread from the shop/supermarket again. I dont even put it away in a cupboard, but keep it out on the worksurface in my utility room, together with the yeast and flours, so its always ready to go!

I have never used a breadmaker before, but as soon as I opened the box I was able to make my first loaf straight away - yes, its that easy. The only advise I can give is to follow the instructions exactly as given in the enclosed book, including adding ingredients in the exact order as listed as this ensures that no ingredient comes into direct contact with another one which might not be compatible in direct contact. I havent had a failure in the 2 months since I bought it and I use it on average 3 times a week. No more stressing over the Bank Holidays as to having a supply of fresh bread and my family, who stayed with me over Christmas, really appreciated waking up to the smell of fresh bread. The taste is sublime and you will never want to buy bread again, once you have tasted fresh bread from your Panasonic breadmaker. I have tried every type of bread, including white, wholemeal, multi-grain, granary and even mixed flours and I have also added seeds and nuts through the dispenser. Trust me, its foolproof!

So what are the advantages?
1. You know exactly what goes into your bread - no enhancers
2. The instruction book is clear and well laid out so you can use it straight away - no learning curve!
3. It has a timer, so you can programme for your bread to be ready when you want it.
4. You can add seeds/nuts to the dispenser and they will automatically be added at the correct time.
5. Not all breadmakers work well with every type of flour, especially granary, but this one does brilliantly.
6. You have various options, such as a complete bake cycle, a mix only or a dough/rise which can then be oooked in the oven - good for rolls/croissants etc.

My advice - if you are looking at breadmakers, then buy this one, youll be delighted (and healthy!)
