are wood or metal slats on bedsteads better?
Wood is better. Sprung base makes the whole bed rock about and does not undermines the mattress. The spring should be in the mattress and not the base.
Otherwise, get a water bed.   What do you think?

Definitely wood. Metal slats are usually only used on budget beds and tend to bend very easily at which point you`ll need to throw the bed away. Wooden slats (either solid or bowed) are inherently stronger. If one does break (usually through misuse) at least it`s just a piece of wood you`ll have to replace!   What do you think?
