John Lewis is excellent for child seats because they fit them while you are there, that way, you know whether the car seat is compatible with your car - and your child.
If you are buying online, cheap places are kiddicare who always sell older designs for cheaper prices. By older designs, they usually mean fabrics, not safety features.
It is worth taking a look on eBay, or even better, a local NCT sale (national child birth trust). The big thing about car seats is they shouldn`t bave been in an accident. any sold through your local NCT branch are usually reliable as they are from local mothers. Ebay, isn`t so reliable, so check the reputation of the seller.
Which? did a report several year ago ( at least four eyars because that`s when i bought mine!) which rated th best and the worst. i joined which? specifically to get this report as car seats are so important.
finally, mothercare has a good buying guide on its website to get you started.

Most probably hundreds... as this would usually involve removing all of the seat fixings and reuphosltering the entire car. If it is a cheap car... go for some good quality seat covers instead and fit them well yourself and you won`t tell the difference. What do you think?

The reason there are so many fatalities linked to rear facing car seats with young children is that usually they are installed with an active air bag present which collides with the child and seat in the incident causing terrible damage. What do you think?
