IMSITurboCAD 9 StandardAfter using various design suites i found this to be the most comprehensive CAD application around although very complicated, time spent is well worth it. The results are stunning. I made some wire-frame models which i thought looked ok but not that special, however after adding 3D rendering the results were stunning. V10 is well expensive and quite un-user friendly, but V9 is so much better. Buy and enjoy.5 out of 5Amazon Reviewer28/01/2007 01:01:01

AutodeskAutoSketch 8 UpgradeThis is not a full blown CAD programme but it does a great job of producing scale, detailed drawings and is much simpler to learn. It is also compatible with many other current CAD packages including Autocad. I have just upgraded from version 5 of Autosketch and I am delighted to find many of the things I found fiddly in the old version have been made so much easier. The fill option has been greatly improved as has access to many menu options. If you are on a budget and want an easy solution for technical drawing I highly reccomend Autosketch.5 out of 5Amazon Reviewer06/02/2004 01:01:01

MICROSOFTOffice Visio Pro 2003 UpgradeI have been using a beta version of this for some time, as I have been a long time user of Visio going back to version 2. The latest version is better than previous versions. It will allow you to use image files to add to templates. Template sizes however can get quicte large, but the image quality is excellent. I use this to draw diagrams to transfer into Powerpoint for presentations. The latest version is easy to use never crashes and the output quality is excellent. Cant see how they will improve on this. Bad points are template sizes are getting bigger, plus you cant save template beyond 2002. If you were able to save as version 2000 this would be better Apart from that its excellent5 out of 5Amazon Reviewer23/11/2003 01:01:01

BVGDesignCAD 3D Max PlusThis is a brilliant but easy to use piece of powerful software. It will give you every designing feature you need and will still have plenty of extra tools left over. Brilliant for begginers or experts. If you have a brain you will have this!5 out of 5Amazon Reviewer17/07/2003 01:01:01

BVGDesignCAD 3000 ExpressHave a look around at drawing programs and I think you will find this is one of the better ones. Lets make a distinction, we are talking home user not professional user with this level of sofware. DesignCad is a well produced program with many features, what is needed is time to read the hard copy manual and practice for proficiency. Programs such as this are great for home use or occasional professional use, but repeated production use would be better done on Autocad R14 or similar. I find that using a larger monitor is helpful with CAd programs, saves too much screen scrolling. Registering a copy of DesignCad will enable the user to subscribe to the DesignCad free newsletter containing tips and tricks to make use easier, and the occasional patch or small upgrade becomes available from time to time. DesignCad has a large database of symbols on disc for various drawing projects ranging from mechanical trades to architecture and electrical work and, believe me, these save a lot of time on the drawing. A drawback with this version is that there is no 3D rendering available, you can only design in 2D, another version is needed for 3D. You can export drawing files in a variety of types for use in other programs (such as web authoring), and filters exist for importing drawing files in different types, useful features. Hard copy user manual is a must for this type of software and DesignCad provide a good one with an extensive reference section. Good value at Amazon price, you dont want to be paying over £40 for software such as this, put it on your shortlist!5 out of 5Amazon Reviewer04/11/2002 01:01:01

MICROSOFTOffice Visio Pro 2003 UpgradeGates Will Land you in the Guano! If, like me, you bought the 2003 Standard version and then the 2003 Pro Upgrade youll be mightily anti-Gatesware, even if you werent before. It is not possible to upgrade from Standard 2003 to Pro 2003. It simply wont load because the 2003 Standard programme is not an approved pre-cursor to the 2003 Pro. Yes really, and I am £200 worse of because of it, not to mention the frustration of 2 hours lost installing and removing it 3 times and the scrabbling around on the PC finding out why. Bless Google; turned up a site with the reason (see above) on the first attempt. Buy the Pro in one go if you need it. Excellent programme but beware the Ides of Gates.1 out of 5Amazon Reviewer16/01/2006 01:01:01

GSP3D Home Designer DeluxeLike almost al powerful graphics software, the learning curve is very steep. If youre familiar with programs like Photoshop or Coral Draw, youll know what I mean. These programs have way too many functions to be easy. This program will do almost anything you want it to do and after you discover how, but only then, does it become simple and obvious. It does have a serious bug too which doesnt help. Using XP style under Windows XP, certain folders of icons and controls never pop up off the toolbar, and so there are things you cant do (Ive checked this out on 2 computers and it took me hours to find/prove. This also makes the help more confusing. If you go into design mode and click on the little sun icon, there should be 3 options that pop-up: day, night and variable time of day. If it doesnt then this tip is for you and if youve been struggling with this program then this may be why. Under XP, go to anywhere on your desktop and rt click. then go >properties>appearance>Windows Classic style. Select and apply. If youve got a fancy custom theme youve already created, back it up first so you can re-apply it afterwards. Then everything displays as it should and all the wall, window, door, plot options etc are there. All walls, windows, stairs and objects can be dimensioned to 0.01mm by selecting, then double clicking and entering the measurements you want. Textures and colours can be dragged to an object/wall in design mode. You can make your own textures and use your own photos for textures. Windows can even be made triangular by using the advanced Window Construction Icon. Everything is really customizable The walkthrough works well even on my laptop with 900MHz processor and 360mb ram. You can stop, reposition, turnaround etc. The raytracer works too. You can choose your latitude and longitude and then day and year and it will simulate light entering the building and shadows for that time. At night, you can see the light from a lamp, change the colour of the bulb and the light output with shadows etc. PROS: powerful, precise measurements, excellent graphics rendition. Screenshots are also possible. you can set foundations, and custom create even stairs and roofs. Excellent walkthrough and raytracer CONS: that bug limited objects with some major omissions(in mine no hot water tank, taps, dishwasher, TV set, no sliding cupboard doors)T Terrible help. Almost condescending. Forget dimensions, easier to draw them in by hand afterwards. Walls in a room/on a floor must be all the same height. So far, I cant find a way to colour one wall independently from the others. Its probably possible though. SOME TIPS: Use Windows Classic Style as previously mentioned Switch off Snap to under program options -it causes more problems than its worth When you want to measure something, click on the set origin icon (like a target)and put it where you want to measure from Double click the ruler Uncheck origin at last point and set X and Y as 0. Then it will measure from the origin youve just positioned. If you want a ceiling, all the walls have to merge. If theres a tiny gap in one of the outer walls, you wont get a ceiling. On the other hand, if you dont want a ceiling ( because its easier to see or you want a mezzanine or gallery) leave a hairline gap somewhere, then you can create a ceiling on part of the room. In design mode>objects go to Elements and there you will find shapes which you can dimension and colour to provide for your missing objects. So you can use this for drains and pipes etc. The washing machine is found in the objects for the cellar! I would give it 5 stars but Im sure there mùust be better programs out there, even though most of them have similar problems. But, there really are very few things you cant do with this, especially if your intention is to just to get an idea of how things will look and fit. Youll have to be a bit imaginitive to get the best out of it and be a bit flexible in your use of objects. Still, excellent at any price and an incredible bargain at the price advertised.4 out of 5Amazon Reviewer02/04/2006 01:01:01

GSP3D Home Designer DeluxeI bought this as were just buying a new house and are hoping to renovate it completely. The package itself is tricky to learn how to use - its not intuitive at all. However with perseverance you can achieve good results. Although it is almost impossible to get walls the correct length - after a while theres a "that will do" attitude. The furniture seems limited but all the basics are there. I dont think theres a better product out there for the same price but it might be worth spending a bit more for something better.3 out of 5Amazon Reviewer31/03/2005 01:01:01
