| SONY | DCRSR33E | I work in televison and film making. I am an HD specialist and am used to handling cameras that cost closer to $100,000 , so I know what a good camera is. This is my choice of recreational camera and I do higly recommend it to those wanting something that is both styling and aesthetically pleasing | | Rob, NYC | 16/08/2008 12:32:57 |

| CANON | MVX100I | I bought one of these cameras second hand and I must say that it is a great camera. the auto focus is quick and accurate but the zoom is relatively slow compared to the sony handicam my freind has. It records at a very high qaulity onto mini dv with long play option and takes sd cards. Very low maintanece and is a great camera | | mike | 24/06/2008 14:35:30 |

| SONY | DCRHC30E | It is wonderful gadjet interms of Video Recording and still photo creating out of the vidoe. If you have a digital camera you can shot only the still snaps and when ever still phots are taken people will stand still and give pose for that with the ordinary smiling of tightlipped poses. But in this Gadget you can continuosly shoot the video and when you view the vidoe the rarest moments can be freezed using the tape still option and transfer that still to the memory stick due. The still photos transferred to the Memory stick duo can furhter be sharpened by zooming option there by a particular portion of the still picture is further enlarged. I really be proud of buying this wonderful gadget. | | Jayavelu | 14/01/2008 09:59:47 |

| SONY | DCRHC30E | I had never used a camcorder before but was amazed on how quick I managed to be able to pick it up and start using. Compact, can write to memory stick duo or tape and I have put in a 2gb stick so I get more than from a tape. Unfortunately it is only mono sound when using memory stick but for standard video recording, do you really need stereo sound? I think you actually get more battery life using the write to meory card as you are not using any motor to physically wind tape heads. A great, affordable, easy to operate machine that isnt the size of a house brick. | | Evrae | 28/06/2007 09:45:12 |

| JVC | GZMG142EK | Excellent camcorder. Great storage and really shows why minidv with it`s 1.5 hours and DVD with it`s 0.5 hours recording times are not the best options for those wanting to get a lot of footage without the expense of piles of media. Editing is easy, connecting to a PC to upload your video is a case of USB cable and go. Does direct to DVD burning if you wish, so non-techies can also use this without problems. If you are considering MiniDV or DVD then weigh up the pros and cons first. THIS camera will be suitable for most unless you have a particular need for the other 2 formats. Definitely the way forward of the 3 and at a great price too. | | Andy | 28/06/2007 09:45:04 |

| NISIS | DV6 | This product is phenomenal. It says 512mb restricted but I tried a 2gb high-speed SD card with it and it worked perfectly well!! I love it, the photo quality is phenomenal for something this price, and on a high-speed memory cards there is no delay in pressing the button and the photo being taken, and with a high-speed memory card the frame rate is a full 30fps!! Very very good. The battery on this lasts forever, it is practically a phone batter and so unless it`s being used very heavily, won`t need many charges. The only problem I have with it is the extremely quiet speaker and the fact that it changed MP3 files names to MP31, MP32 etc. Other than that, as a stills camera this is phenomanal, as a video camera it is great and as an MP3 player it is still effective. | | GABJAM | 25/06/2007 15:36:51 |

| Mustek | DV5300SE | I just bought this camcorder a few days ago and so far, so good. It eats through batteries like a starving boar (solved by using 3 rechargable 1.5v AAA batteries) but gets great picture quality with a webcam style intake. Don`t believe anything poeple say about poor quality indoors becuase the footage I`ve taken with it inside came out almost Hollywood quality (with no natural light, nonetheless). The DV5300SE uses an innovative SD card drive rather than those anceint `cassette tapes`. This digital camcorder can be seen as the Lambourghini of camaras with its sleek, silver casing. It feels very much like a toy but operates like a charm. If you are looking to make a proffesional grade film with a low budget: I highly recommend the Mustek DV5300SE. It is small, reliable, inexpensive, 5 Megapixel at 30fps and looks absolultely beautiful.
Pros: Portable, longevity, many modern features, inexpensive, unremarkably clear video, attractive, comes with accessories, SD card compatable, internal memory, music player, sound recorder, user-friendly interface, built-in photo flash. Cons: Battery `black hole`, addictive. | | Captian Andrew | 25/06/2007 15:36:46 |

| NISIS | DV6 | The camera is great value for the money! The zoom facility on video is disabled if the Stabilisation setting is enabled - I found this out by accident, though could be logical as stablisation is needed for still photo`s. | Panasonic | NVGS27 | Hello Fellow Videographers, Today I am giving you a brief overview of the Panasonic NV-GS27. From what I have noticed, Panasonic has attempted to emulate the high quality camcorder experience, and they have done a superb job. The only 2 areas they fel short in was no mic input, and no real widescreen. (16:8) I also found the GS27 was FAR nicer and easier to hold and use then any other mini DV cam. I personally feel the design/shape is fantastic. The rounder design is also easies to keep steady. The picture quality was VERY crisp in good lighting. I was very pleasantly surprised by how nice it looked. I mean, we are talking a 1/6 single CCD camcorder. Too many people review items like this, and compare them to high price/quality camcorders. They forget that not all of us have that much cash to throw around on a ¼ 3CCD cam. I find manual settings to be a must for getting the most out of budget camcorders. You can get a much better picture from manual settings, and in the budget DV cameras there seems to be a better ability to manually set the iris, shutter, focus, etc with the GS27 then most other big name brands in the same price range. This is something I find VERY appealing. Now, this next bit plus for is that it is side loading, where most other budget camcorders are bottom loading. Bottom loading is a HUGE pain when you are using a tripod, and I use a tripod as much as I possibly can. In a lot of cases you will have to remove the camera from the tripod to replace the tape. This can get very frustrating, very quickly. So to summarise my final thoughts, The Panasonic was nicer to hold, slightly crisper in good lighting, better manual settings, and side loading. (tripod friendly) My personal opinion is that most big name mini DV cams will be fine for the beginner who just wants “family videos,” but the Panasonic had a more professional feel to it, was easy to hold for long periods of time, and seemed more rounded. If your going to use a tripod, light your settings correctly, and try to venture into a cheap but professional world of videography on a budget, then you can’t go past the Panasonic NV SG-27. It has bang for the buck! This is Micky-G signing out. | | Micky-G | 08/01/2007 15:30:12 |

| JVC | GZMG21 | I was looking for a camcorder to use primarily for holidays and family moments. I have bought this camcorder for that use only.
when you buy the JVC Everio GZMG21EK you get the following items:- The camcorder itself, A battery and charger, a lens cap, Shoulder strap, instructions & guarantees, AV cables, a USB cable, a remote control (with battery) and a disc of software. ( I bought mine over the internet so couldnt haggle in the shop)
The camcorder is silver in colour and i cant believe how small it actually is. It fits perfectly into my hand and is not heavy at all.
The camcorder uses a 20 gb hardrive as the recording medium rather than the tapes or discs alot of the other types do. So one big advantage is not having to go out and buy a load of tapes or discs to record on. You can record up to 25hrs of recording on the Economy setting. This shrinks to 4.5hrs on ultra (DVD) quality. This is continuous recording, so even on the ultra high setting you can record alot more footage without having to change discs or tapes than some of the other camcorders on the market at the moment. The h/d (Harddrive) also has protective features on it to prevent damage if you drop it. This can be turned off in the menu, but unles your filming on a rollercoaster or something i would leave this on. There is also a slot in the bottom for an SD card You can switch easily between the two mediums or set the camcorder to store movies on the h/d and photo`s on the sd card if that is what you want.
The camcorder has a total zoom capability of 800x. 32 x optical and the rest digital. I took mine out onto the beach and did some filming when i first bought it and the zoom works perfectly. When the camcorder is in your hand the zoom lever is right by your index finger, and the record/snap button is right by your thumb. The design is perfect for use without having to start fiddling with your other hand to find buttons. However i must point out that although the camera has an 800x zoom you cant use it all whilst just filming with the camcorder in your hand. I found that if i went past the 32x magnification i just couldnt keep the film steady. But you can also set the maximum zoom to 64x magnification. This does make it easier to zoom when your out and about. There is another function called Macrozoom, This is for filming things that are quite close. The nearest you can be is 5cm`s and that is only if this is switched on.
There is a 2.5` lcd display which folds out. It can also rotate through 180 degrees and then fold back in to the camera. This is for watching and editing films via the camcorder itself. one bad point i did notice was there is no viewfinder on this camera. You have to use the lcd display. This is bad if it is sunny outside then the image on the display is very hard to see. I was trying to film a windfarm that has been built about 5 miles out to sea from the beach. I couldnt make out any of them when i was filming however when i watched it back on the television they are as clear as a bell. There is an attachment you can buy to block the sun but i havent got that. I must say the zoom performed excellently there as the individual posts with the propellers on are really clear. I couldnt see them clearly with the naked eye but the camera got them, i could clearly see the propellers rotating.
The battery that is supplied with the camcorder is dissapointing. It is the smallest JVC do. It reportedly lasts for an hour, and you dont get a spare. They do put in an information leaflet that advertises the larger batteries and the largest will record for 4hrs 55 mins. I took a peek at the website and this costs £55.00. I find it disappointing that this is not supplied with the camcorder as they do advertise the recording capability of the h/d as being 4.5hrs on ultra high quality. So you do need this in order to accomplish that. I found you also have to charge the battery while it is attached to the camcorder which could be a bit of a pain.
The leads that are supplied are mentioned above. The av cable allows you to directly connect the camcorder to your television and is easy to connect. The usb cable allows you to connect the camera to your P.C. This is also very easy. They include set up manuals which are extremely easy to follow in the box. The camcorder also has an S-Video connection this allows better quality of transfer to your television. The lead is not supplied with this camcorder though.
The software supplied allows you to download your films to the p.c, edit the films or pictures and produce DVD`S. There is an excellent manual which has a step by step guide to using this software. I found that i could add voice overs or even add music to the background very easily after playing around with it for a short time. one worrying point was i found you do lose some of the quality when you burn to a DVD. I noticed a slight difference watching the DVD after watching the camera directly connected to my television. Now i dont know if that is my computer or burner or the disc i use but there is a small difference. The camera can also film in 16:9 ratio. This is basically Widescreen rather than the 4:3 ratio of most televisions. Most of the new televisions are now widescreen so this camera has the capability to film in that format. I havent tried this yet so i cant really comment on that part.
In conclusion i am extremely happy with this camcorder. It does exactly what it says on the box. i am positive that the camera can do more than enough of the things i want it and need it for. With enough that if i wanted to experiment with more complex filming i could do. At the £385.00 (inc delivery) i paid for it i am very pleased and would recommend it to others of you who want it for the same reasons i do.

| NISIS | DV6 | I bought a Nisis DV6 a year or so ago direct from Earls Court ideal home show. I paid about £200 (double the current price).
It had numerous extras, like a mains/charger cable, USB cable, AV cables, a tripod, hand strap, case (I think?) SD card - an optional 512Mb one instead of 16 or 32Mb (?) for a bit extra, still/video/installation software CD and a perfectly adequate user manual.
I have been absolutely delighted with it and can`t believe the number of features it has. It is very easy to use, user friendly and has a nice colourful panel that also doubles as viewfinder and playback.
Still photos are exceptional, though mind the slight gap between pressing the shutter and capturing as it is a digital camera. It has 3 quality options. Even the lowest is unpixelated on a full PC screen and can take 2220 images on my SD card or 277 in highest quality mode. I took 1600 pictures (downloading the SD card each time when full - in seconds) on a single battery charge. The camera and video have 3 range settings, macro, portrait and infinity.
Audio recording is fine and as the video (which is audio and video) will offer 2 hours with my 512Mb SD card, imagine how much audio time you get!
Video - whilst fine for taking slow or stationery things, is jerky when the unit is moving at any speed and I`m sure will show up on TV, so it`s not primarily a video recorder. If you note this, you`ll be happy with the quality when you don`t move about too quickly.
Transferring files is quick and easy and start-up of the unit is very quick for that instant need - my own MP3 player takes almost a minute, this takes a second.
I haven`t even begun to use many of the additional features for the camera or video, other than the flash and quality. As I have an MP3 player already, I haven`t used that either or as a hard drive storage device.
It`s so small and light, the battery lasts forever, both the mains and USB serve as power and chaging sources and it really is truly portable, especially if you go on a long holiday and take a couple of spare fingernail size SD cards.
I think the SD card size is limited to 512Mb. A newer but different model takes 1Gb.
It facilitates remote control, but doesn`t come with it.
It can transfer files direct to or from a PC or other device and the software allows the SD card to print specific files direct from it.
Apart from the jerky video, I have just one gripe. When I start the unit up it sometimes starts up ready to use the in built memory instead of the SD card. If this (inbuilt memory is full, or it soon will be if I use it) I can`t use the unit as it is/for long. I have to take the SD card out and put it back again and re-start the unit before it recognises it. It all takes only 5-10 seconds, but it`s a pain. This may be my fault having not fully used the functions yet, so I won`t judge it yet as it could be me. I have enquired today and await a reply.
For £99.99 incl. VAT (check the internet) it is hard to find anything as good a value in my opinion. If it had a digital radio too, I`d dispense with my MP3 player. Add a basic phone and a palm top and you`ve got it all if you`re a gadget freak.
Highly recommended as an instant, multi functioning, versatile, very good quality, very lightweight, take anywhere and forget you`ve got it accessory giving all round great results/performance and some (e.g. camera) excellent results. | | teacher | 10/01/2006 11:10:22 |

| PANASONIC | NVGS50 | Superb little camera. no problems whatsoever. unbelievable picture quality for 1 ccd. no quality loss downloading to pc and burning to dvd. snug fit in hand, optical zoom smooth, digital zoom like all camcorders - waste of space - low light capability poor, battery life very good, sound quality (12 bit excellent) on board digital effects extensive, easy to use. In all, well worth every penny. | | vandenagel | 31/07/2005 10:23:55 |

| PANASONIC | NVGS10 | I found this model to be an excellent mid-range camera. If you`re a newcomer to this type of media, or a pro, you can`t go wrong with the NV-GS10. I for one do not regret purchasing this product, and my only problem is with the battery supplied with the unit. I would recommend buying a larger battery for those days out or holidays. Hats off to Panasonic once again!! | | Tristan, Manchester | 25/07/2005 11:29:57 |

| PANASONIC | NVGS55 | After extensive research into Camcorders for "value for money", functionality, weight and size, price.... I purchased the Panasonic NVGS 55 - the Camcorder has proved to be nothing short of "outstanding" and excellent value for money. I would recommend anyone to buy it ! | SONY | DCRHC19 | Excellent, quality camera for a very good price. Touch screen is excellent so is battery life. Has all the functions most users need combined with top of the line optics. Avoid Pixmania as their customer service was dreadful. | | HC19_User | 24/04/2005 21:34:09 |

| SONY | DCRHC30 | An excellent camera for the money - it works fine, with all the usual in-camera editing features (althoug I prefer to leave the footage clean and add effects / titles etc with Pinnacle Studio 9 on the PC at home). Also very good is the abitlity to convert all your existing analogue footage using the camera as a converter, if you don"t have an analogue-in port on your PC.
The camera controls are easy to use, and its very small size makes it ideal for dropping into your coat pocket or a rucksack on a day out, and the digital stills function on the memory stick is good (if a little pixellated). The LCD hybrid screen is useful, but you can only access the menus through this rather than buttons on the side of the camera - it takes a little getting used to!
Both my children use this camcorder when we are out and about, they absolutely love it.
Its definitely worth the extra few pounds to get one with DV and analogue in... | | Pierre | 05/11/2004 10:31:35 |

| CANON | XM2 | Let me be the first here to rate this camera as I wanted to read reviews and comments and did not find any here so it might be short and sweet but to the point with me.
I bought an Canon xm2 March 2003 and video weddings with excellent results on DVD. So far no problems and I am 100% happy to date. It is now 13th December 2003 and I have decided to buy another one for my two camera operation. So so far so good for now and I will look forward to purchasing my second XM2 on Sunday the 14th December 2003 as I have one reserved for me but I guess I just wanted to see if their was any problems that might have been posted by another user so for now I will go and search for another review site and hopefully it will be good news all the way. | | Photografx Digital Imaging Services | 16/12/2003 19:04:29 |

| SONY | DCRTRV33 | First digital camcorder I have bought, had an old analogue one and this is far easier to use right from the start, was able to start recording within minutes of opening box. Able to follow instructions in handbook which is always half the battle. Need to upgrade to more powerful battery and memory stick and doesn't come with case. | | Erica Halfyard | 03/10/2003 07:17:52 |

| PANASONIC | NV-VZ15 | This camcorder has whatever I wanted for filming it is very easy to use and has very useful features and very high quality pictures such as fast focusing, white balance and program AE. The only thing which is not quite good is the digital zoom from around 250 to 700 which goes very fast. | | shahriar from Iran | 10/09/2003 11:43:48 |

| Mustek | DV3000 | Excellent little Camera for Fun use.
What's good: Stills Quality Very sharp, Camera very, very small, Light and convenient. Uses regular AA Batteries, Video suprisingly good.
What's bad: Using Multimedia Cards and not CF. Exposure control a bit iffy and Colour rendition on Stills.
But hey, it's only £99 and everybody so far who's seen it what one as well. A must have for those fond of Gadget Land. Much better than I expected it to be. | | Ian | 05/09/2003 12:05:39 |

| PANASONIC | NVGS50 | Saw this camcorder reviewed as 'Best Buy' in PC Advisor. Found High Street prices ranged from £600 to £700 which was outside my budget. After some searching found it cheaper on the web. Bought it and it's a great little camera (just a little larger than my hand) with some great features.
Looking for a digital camcorder then give this consideration. | | ianc | 05/09/2003 11:50:24 |

| JVC | GR-DV4000 | I bought this product earlier this year. Very impressed with the quality. I love it.
But 2 notes of caution: 1 Don't think that the digital photography feature is good. It's bad quality. If you want a digital camera or you want to take digital shots, just get a seperate digital camera. For digital video it's great. 2 Don't think the USB port is the way to go. The USB is only meant for using the camera as a web cam, NOT for transfering video. TO transfer video use the firewire port. It's worth it.
I use Adobe Premiere to transfer the Video not the software it came with. If you just want to make movies so you can email them then the software included is 4 u. If you want to make DVD movies to be played on a TV set then use Premiere from ADOBE.
Other wise the camera is great. | | Mike | 05/09/2003 11:47:58 |
