As a 1st time buyer of a camcorder, i must admit it stayed in the box for a few weeks, as the instructions looked scary!! But i must admit, it is v v easy to understand. Should be renamed- the camcorder for dummies. Simple it may be, but the picture and sound quality you cannot fault. Now i am a camcorder user, there is 1 downside-this model does not have a memory card slot enabling you to send clips via e-mail etc or protect your special files/clips. Saying that, all in all, if you want a camcorder to just switch on, record, play back or keep on tape. This is brilliant!! There are other features you can play around with for the more advanced when recording so for me its a best-buy.
Reviewed by: Amazon Reviewer Rating: Date Reviewed: 27Dec2004 | | | I received this camcorder 2 weeks ago and I am truelly amazed at the quality of the footage. I have tried it on long play and short play and transferred both to a DVD. The footage is crisp and dynamic, a far cry away from an analogue camcorder! The DX28 is tiny! It fits perfectly in my hand, with all the buttons that Ill need within easy reach. The colour viewfinder, as well as the LCD display, are excellent. I recorded a 120 min tape without the battery going flat, and still had enough juice left to play the footage! Well... most of it. The LEDs at the front arent really up to much, anything over a meter or two away will not get illuminated by them. However, this is just a gimmick. There are plenty of effects to play with if you are into that sort of thing. Including a widescreen mode, which puts big black lines top and bottom. I picked this camcorder over a similiarly priced Samsung because of the x12 zoom of the JVC. A memory card slot is available on the better JVC models, but being a skint student this one had to do. All in all for the price you pay this camcorder is amazing. Youll learn all the features very quickly and manual mode is easy to get into. You will have to buy an additional charging unit though, charging the battery through the camcorder could get annoying if you had a spare battery.
