We have used the carpet cleaner and find it does exactly what it says about its performance. We would however, recommend that the solution is halved/water and then refil (perhaps do half of area and refil - as there is no onboard heating element.) Other than that it is v. good. The only drawback is the weight but it `rocks back` onto the wheels and unless you have a lot of steps to negotiate it is fine.

First the good things: It does clean carpets well, the rotating brush-head lifts the pile and scrubs the tufts. It removes much of the water/shampoo as you go or you can rinse out the shampoo with plain water and extract the excess from the carpet so that it dries pretty quickly. When the motor is running is easy to move across the floor area. When the motor is off the back wheels enable one to trolley it about. Its not too noisy.
The less good things: Its very heavy and has no grab handle to aid lifting and so is difficult to take up and down stairs. The tanks of clean and dirty water are very small and so one has to keep refilling and emptying them even for a relatively small area of carpet. The hose attachment for cleaning upholstery is permanently fixed to the machine, adding to the weight, and getting in the way and sometimes falling off as you work. I would really like to be able to take it off when just carpet-cleaning.

I did so much research on carpet cleaners and decided to check them out instore before buying. Im really glad I did because you can see the mechanics of how it works (changing the tank etc) plus the trigger on the handle is really light to use on this Bissell whereas on the Vax which I was also considering, the trigger is much harder to depress (It wouldnt be good for your forearms or if you have a tendency to tennis elbow). You definitely need to fill the chamber slowly or it bubbles up too much. I needed to refill the chamber twice for a 14 x 12 lounge, but it was simple to do so I didnt mind. The weight of the machine is perfect at 8.6kg and the 800w perfectly powerful to do a good job. Any less and I dont think it wouldnt be powerful enough but at 54` i couldnt manage anything heavier. You also must tip the dirty water down the loo instead of sink as there can be big bits of wet fluff that might clog a sink.
Now the downside ..... the instructions for filling etc are embossed on the plastic tank and are unreadable unless you hold it in perfect light. This led to me filling the wrong part of the chamber first of all because i couldnt see where the arrow was pointing. Its difficult to move around corners but straight lines are fine and it has an easy switch to use a handheld tool. The line diagrams in the instruction booklet arent very good (why they cant do colour photos I dont know). I rang Bissell to ask a simple question but they just had an answerphone on and no one has called me back 2 days later. I guessed the answer in the end. In comparison, I rang Vax to ask some questions about their products when I was putting my short list together and they couldnt have been more helpful, even on New Years Eve.
However, the Bissell does such a great job of cleaning carpets that the product gets 5 stars from me.

I bought a reconditioned bissell Powerwash delux. It is fantastic. The carpets come up really well and I find that the brush attachment is great for getting out those stubborn ground in marks, as well as cleaning upholstery. I have found that you need to be a little careful with the trigger or you can over wet the carpet, but this just means it takes longer to dry. With regard to the hard floor tool - It does a lovely job and the floor feels really smooth and clean, BUT, don`t put down as much water as they suggest (a forward and backward squirting) or your floor will be awash with water! I have found that one squirt on the forward or backward pass is enough to do several passes - once you have used it you will be able to adjust to how much you need for your floor. I hope this helps.

After many attempts at getting our first choice.. a Vax, we decided to give up and try this one... it still took a while to arrive but well worth the wait.
Cleans everything it claims to, and well Leaves very little water behind.. so dries quick Two in one water (fresh and waste) system saves time Being an upright saves backache/sore arms Really does draws out deep dirt and grit
Downside ?? I guess the cleaning fluids are expensive... buy there are great deals for it on Ebay..
All in all a great bit of kit I would recommend without any worries.

This cleans really well. Have the option to preclean with a flick of the switch. You simply pour cleaner into its inner bag then top up with hot water. When cleaning, the dirty water gets sucked up into the container outside the bag. To clean, you simply squeeze a trigger beneath the handle and move the cleaner forward and backward slowly, then release the trigger and repeat the motion to suck up dirty water. The size of container is a bit on the small side (be prepared to empty and refill several times for a large carpet - but it is very quick to do). It is powerful and you will get little balls of wet fluff lifted - which you can just pick off or vaccuum up when dry. Proves its getting deep down into the pile at any rate. I used the Bissell deep fibre clean shampoo that came with it (other things you get are a hard floor cleaner attachment and small brush attachment for stubborn spots - which is quite handy. You can order extras like 4 and 6 inch attachments for furnishings or awkward places. I found it pretty good on stains. I can only compare this machine with a Vax (years ago) and more recently the Hoover Brush n Wash which is a similar machine but nowhere near as good as this Bissell in my opinion. The carpet is left damp to the touch (depends how long you want to keep going over it to suck excess water up) but soon dries. The colour definitely gets renewed and the whole thing a lot brighter afterwards - great smell. Recommend this.
