I`ve had this unit since 07 08 2009 I used the machine for streaming music from the internet and burn onto C.D I used it twice it then stopped recording it told me it was recording the record red light was on it supposedly recorded the track but when I stopped the machine and tried to play the track back it told me Blank Disc or TOC Error as I was recording the signal bars told me the signal was going in I could also hear the music I did everything the manual said removed plug from mains etc still no joy Is this a common fault? When I phoned the shop where I bought the unit they said they would repair it I said I wanted a replacement or my money back as the unit was not fit for what it was intended recordind C.D.s they were not very happy.

Purchased this product recently via amazon I had read the previous reviews before buying, and for the money this is a great machine. Copy cds very fast, and no drop outs. I have been using this machine daily, and I am very pleased with its performance considering the price. Inputs Audio and Digital, plus fully programable.

I use this machine for recording sermons at our church and for playing background music through a professional PA system. The only gripes I have is the less than intuitive operation - I have tried to show colleagues how to use it, finalise discs, set levels etc and its not easy! The operation of the recording side of it is not as easy as our old fashioned cassette deck! First you have to allow a few seconds before the recording starts while the machine faffs about checking the disc etc. Then you have to make sure you havent accidentally touched the record select button and upset the input signal. Then after the recording, you must finalise the disc before it can be played on another machine. So not the most user friendly piece of technology but still an excellent machine and a useful facility. Great too for copying your old cassete and record collection onto CD. So far no mechanical problems and the machine continues to serve us well after 6 months of use.

I am writing a review of a Sony recordable CD deck to warn potential buyers that I have found it to be badly-specified and -worst of all- unreliable. Although my deck has been used only very occasionally, it has begun to malfunction and refuses to do what it says on the box, namely, to record.
I tried to contact Sony UK on this matter, but that was a futile exercise whereby you are put on hold for 15 mins and then answered by an Asian call-centre. Eventually I was told that the equipment was broken (revelations!) and gave me the number of the nearest repairer in my area. Hopeless.
Sony is perhaps an example of a company that has grown too large with a commensurate drop in quality-control. It used to be one of the top 2 brands of quality hifi equipment (I have Sony gear from the 80s which is still working perfectly) - no longer. I shall NEVER buy Sony again. The notorious unreliablility of their Vaio laptops reflects the fact that like Mercedes-Benz, they are trading on past glories and customers are paying for poor quality and rather vulgar showiness, rather than a quality piece of equipment.

This is a good twin deck CD Recorder. You can record at up to 4 times normal speed to make copies of CDs. Sound quality is good - and it sounds best when connected to an amplifier using the digital optical output.
It will record on CDR or RW discs - but these have to be the music or audio ones - NOT the type you normally use to save data on your PC. These are readily available on the high street or online stores.
I use this recorder to make copies of discs for use in my car - as I dont like to get the originals scratched and dirty. Its also good for making personalised compilation CDs of your favourite tracks.
It supports CD Text, so you can enter track and disc name information - and this will display back to you on compatible equipment.
It also has a digital optical input for connecting to an external source or an amplifier (for recording purposes). It can also be connected using the ordinary (analogue) phono line inputs/outputs to a tape loop on a standard amplifier.
When you have finished recording a CD - you have to finalize it before it will play on other equipment, this happens at high speed - and only takes about 1 minute.
As there are very few alternatives available on the UK market at the moment - I would recommend this player.

Having used this machine for over 1 year without complaints, let me tell you about a feature which to my mind is worth all of £200 and that is the ability of this impeccable cd recorder to Super Bit Map the recording. Using an external source preferably cd this machine is able to produce a Digital Remaster of the original. They sound incredible to the point of transforming some discs ,making these your most listened to and your reference disc. To date i have not tried this on older classical recordings but will begin the excercise with mouth watering anticipation. Well done Sony!
