I have the baby class D. I`ve used it with very fine ground coffee (from my own grinder), as well as Gaggia preground. I think it works very well, if you do as it says in the instruction book, which is don`t tamp hard. If you do, the coffee gets a strange burnt taste and the crema reduces. Do as it says and it produces a really good espresso coffee (I am italian by the way so know what a good espresso tastes like). As for the company, I have had nothing but helpful friendly people. I did buy a machine that didn`t work well and they replaced without argument.
Reviewed by: Ron C Rating:5 out of 5 Date Reviewed:15Apr2008 | | | I also have had problems with Gaggia brand coffee in the Baby Class (D) - same thing - struggled to push the water through. Gaggia replaced the pack and has been fine since. Illy coffee also OK.
Having said that, it`s dribbling water from the steam nozzle almost constantly when making coffee. This is the second one I`ve had with the same fault - returning it tomorrow for a third replacement before I give up!!
Not impressed!
Reviewed by: Neil Rating:2 out of 5 Date Reviewed:22Aug2007 | | | Looks great, well built, but don`t expect miracles. Any fine expresso coffee -such as Lavazza or Gaggia`s own brand - is too much for the Baby. Customer service is very poor indeed - the Halifax operation is badly manned, poorly trained if friendly. Save your money - the results are merely on a par with a £10 pot on the stove, as the only coffee it can cope with is coarse stuff. Crema? Only if you`re prepared to wait 5 minutes while it huffs and puffs a drip at a time.
