I am on my third one... The first one leaked (it seems to happen once the product has been moved, even though the instructions have been followed) and it makes you wonder why the rollers have been supplied. The second one was incorrectly assembled and did not work and the third one leaks once it has been moved (just like the first one did). The item is also relatively noisy due to the water container vibrating (however, I have found my own solution there). All in all, for the amount of money spent, this product is overpriced and the quality/design leaves a lot to be desired. The reason I have given it a star is that when it is doing the job, it is doing the job (dehumidifying/heating). Dealing with De Longhi/Kenwood though is another experience altogether and I certainly would not go there again...
Reviewed by: Amazon Reviewer Rating: Date Reviewed: 21Nov2008 | | | This can extract water from the air even when a (separate) humidity detector states the humidity is already down to 45% The compressor is quieter than the fan so it isnt clear when it has actually cut in after the safety 3 min wait. At this humidity (45%), it took a couple of hours before the internal pipework had filled enough to start dripping into the tank for the first time, so dont panic if it doesnt seem to be working straight away. The 21 litres per 24 hours is (I believe) at quite high humidity levels, lower levels produce water more slowly. There are two settings for dehumidification: at the lower one the unit is a little louder than a normal fan heater. At the higher setting the fan is much faster and sounds more like a powerful cooling fan, but is much less noisy than an air con system. The humidity control works just like a thermostat and shuts the system down at whatever level is selected and restarts if the humidity rises, so the unit doent have to run continuously to maintain a set level. While the unit can drain continuously if you drill a hole in the outlet at the back and attach the supplied pipe, the pipe is only 1m long and must run with a continuous fall. Despite the suggestion in the manual that the casters are an option they are in the polystyrene top packing, you have to remove the fixed rubber feet first. After unpacking, the unit must be left to stand for 24 hours before use to let the refrigerant setttle. Similarly a 1 hour rest is recommended after moving it. All in all does the job, but without another make to compare it to, I cant really comment on how quiet it is other than quieter than air con, you wouldnt however want to run it in a bedroom at full strength unless you had a desperate damp problem. Its really intended to operate in the hallway and dry out the whole house- or at least rooms with doors left open. This unit has the advantage of heating- especially useful for drying clothes. The washable filter is a finely perforated rigid plastic grid- a brush down and rinse rather than `wash` should suffice.
