My daughter enjoys playing with Bratz and loves playing games on-line so when my wif brought the Be-Bratz doll home from a trip, my daughter was very excited. The problems started with the USB key. It is formatted to only work with Windows (were a Mac household) and Ive seen other review that mention Vista causing problems. The small print on the box does state that it is only Windows compatible but it should be very visible on the packaging to ensure that non-techies dont get caught out. There could be a lot of disappointed little girls on Christmas morning. Any why-oh-why is that restriction there? All thats on the key is a file to launch the browser and point at the website. Theres nothing Windows specific about it. And the key is locked, so I cant fix it!
To get online, I got hold of a Windows machine and plugged in the USB key. As expected a web browser opened on the Be-Bratz web site but with a `Page not found` error instead of the promised virtual world. An email to support got this resolved after a few days.
So, almost a week after getting the toy, my daughter finally got online -- the most anticipated aspect of the toy -- only to be disappointed once again. The site regularly hangs after a short time playing, requiring the web browser to be killed and restarted. Tried with a few different browsers but the behavior is the same across the board.
This just looks like a hastily put together effort with poor quality control on the part of the Bratz makers. I expect the whole thing to grind to a halt when thousands of children try to sign up on Christmas morning. At least we got that disappointment out of the way well before.
