Dryers Buyers Guide
There are several different types of clothes dryers now available: spin dryers, condenser dryers, traditional vented dryers, and integrated washer-dryers. Each appeals to different consumers based on a range of factors such as price, space, ventilation, and their specific needs.
Traditional tumble dryers require ventilation to carry the hot air out of the dryer and release it outside. You can either have a fixed 'hole in the wall' type system, or simply hang a flexible vent pipe out of an open window. When buying dryers, you will need to consider whether top or front loading will be better suited. Top loaders are in some ways easier to use but of course are unsuitable for integration under a worktop. Always check product dimensions and be aware that price usually equates to cycle options: the more expensive the product the more features, such as faster spin, quieter spin, changeable venting positions, sensor drying and so forth.
Spin dryers spin your clothes at up to 3000rpm after which they will be far dryer than with most washing machine spin cycles. Here you should check for load capacity, automatic pump action, safety locking mechanism and noise output in particular.
Condenser dryers are ideal for those who are limited for space and do not want to worry about external ventilation. Moisture is collected in an easy to empty water tray or is pumped out via a nearby sink waste pipe. More expensive models will sport features such as sensor drying, to ensure you do not over-dry clothes.
Integrated washer dryers incorporate a washing machine and dryer into one machine. Great for the space conscious, specifications to look out for include, load capacity, water consumption levels, energy efficiency, noise level and cold fill only options.
