Dual Fuel Free Standing Oven Buyers Guide

Dual Fuel Free Standing Ovens Buyers Guide

Dual fuel free standing ovens are, for many, the epitome of domestic cooking appliances. Dual fuel free standing ovens are those that can operate on both gas and electricity, whilst many will also include injection jets for LPG (liquid propane gas). Furthermore, many of these appliances will combine the two fuel sources to offer both an electric and gas oven, which can perform different jobs. Specifically, a gas oven will tend to keep foods moist as it cooks them whereas an electric oven will sometimes dry out foods more quickly but will come to heat more rapidly and may offer more even heat distribution. Additionally, an electric oven offers more control over the heat settings. Dual fuel ovens are manufactured by popular household names such as Rangemaster, Smeg, Baumatic and New World.

When buying dual fuel ovens it is important to realise that these appliances are available in a range of different sizes from 50cm to 120cm in width. However, dual fuel ovens will typically comprise two specific configurations in so far as the double ovens will be situated either side by side or one on top of the other. Obviously, dual fuel ovens that are stacked vertically will take up considerably less space, at least in terms of width, than those that are arranged horizontally. Thus, give plenty of thought to the type of oven you want to buy but remember your kitchen layout will often determine the range of models available to you.

Buying a dual fuel oven will usually mean forking out a bit more cash than if you were to buy a standard appliance, although if you are considering the range of these ovens you have probably already concluded that these appliances are best suited to your particular needs. Rangemaster is a popular manufacturer of dual fuel ovens and has produced a variety of attractive and highly efficient models, including the Toledo 110cm and the Aspen. Likewise, Zanussi's excellent ZCM Stainless Steel oven and Stoves' 110cm Black oven represent some of the finer models in the range.

Finally, if you decide to invest in a dual fuel oven you may also want to consider buying a few additional accessories. Indeed, whilst many ovens will include such features as multiple burners, grills, roasting racks, griddles and programmable timers, it may also be necessary to purchase a matching splash back and cooker hood.
