WharfedaleWDP1210Reviewed by: Phil Cole Rating:4 out of 5 Date Reviewed:16Sep2007 `Its pretty good but when the battery runs out completely it will never work again`. NOT TRUE! The unit will run from any 12v dc source (car battery or even a small 12v motorcycle battery)and also the mains via a universally-available adaptor. The Clip-on Battery has a very long life if charged / used carefully and it is possible to replace the internal batteries when completely exhausted so to openly state that `When the battery runs out completely it will never work again` is totally misleading. 5 out of 5The-Radio-Engineer24/06/2008 14:36:34

PANASONICNVVP30 MultiregionI own this product (Panasonic NV-VP30 PAL Region Combi DVD/VCR) for more than 4 years now and I just love it. I simply lost its Users Guide and can`t resolve connection problems that arose by the time I`ve bought, 8 months ago, a Panasonic 42` HDTV PLASMA, and can`t achieve interconectivity/compability among both sets. WharfedaleWDP1210For the price you pay for it, it`s an excellent piece of kit. I took mine on holiday, and it does exactly as it promises. The picture is great, and the sound is good too. I was surprised by the quality for the price I paid. If you want a simple no-frills portable DVD, this is a good call. 5 out of 5Michelle Butterworth12/03/2008 11:57:08

PROLINEDVDP708W SILperfect product for our 4 year old son with special needs, our son has autism and we needed a player with a fast forward button on the player ( most seem to be only on the remote now adays ) He enjoys watching the same part over and over again and loves watching on fast forward too. Finnally after searching the shops in town we were able to buy this one with the car bag for £69.99 all in from Comet, perfect... Son really seems happy, nice big screan. Buttons easy to use for little ones. Im searching the net looking for a 2nd one to keep as a spare. Battery lasts 2.5 hours, 5 out of 5emma30/12/2007 10:02:51

LafayetteLFDV969For what it is priced at, this unit is incredible! Using the component output on a 43` Pioneer plasma screen the picture is of a very high quality. Also, having tested both the optical and coaxial audio outputs on a top of the range Pioneer AV reciever through some large speakers I was amazed at the quality of sound that this low budget DVD player produced. As a temporary DVD player, before I buy an HD-DVD player, I am very happy with this unit. 5 out of 5Anon26/05/2006 08:06:25

DVD Player plays back DVDs, CDs, DVD+R/W, DVD-R/W (not VR mode), CD-R/W, JPEG, MP3, DivX and it`s multiregion out of the box. A doddle to set up and simple to use. HitachiPDV313I bought this for my son`s birthday form Argos for £99. Firstly, it seems to be very well made with a quality feel to it. It is supplied with a mains adaptor, remote control (with proper buttons) and a detachable battery which hangs somewhat ungainly out the back of the machine. There are no earphones or other cables supplied in the box. The screen is sharp with bright, natural colours, although sound quality (as on most of these players) is dreadful though the built in speakers.

Note that the Argos catalogue states that there is a car charging lead supplied, but when I paid for it in the store I was told that this is in fact an error in the catalogue so I also bought the optional accessory pack for £20 which includes a carry case & straps, a car charging lead, 2 headphones with a twin socket splitter, some AV leads and a SCART adapter.

The car charging lead however has the wrong connector for this player and is therefore useless, but contrary to what Argos told me, there was in fact a car lead supplied with my PDV313! Note that when the player is in the case it is a very tight fit, the remote control does not work and none of the connections are accessible. Fairly limited use but it is OK for storage I suppose.

The PDV313 has an AV in/out switch which in theory allows you to plug in an XBOX or PS2. I have been unable so far to get a decent picture or any sound when connecting an XBOX. I need to look into this later!

Overall, this is an excellent machine that hopefully will last longer than the Proline model that it replaces! Recommended.

BTW - Between the Proline and this Hitachi, I also purchased a Goodmans `twin screen` portable DVD from Makro. This is in their current offers list (Makro Mail) but BEWARE - they do not come with a battery or mains adapter/charger (only a car lead). In addition, Makro do not have in stock, nor do they know if or when the will get any of the battery & charger packs so don`t buy one unless you want to use it only in the car.

TOSHIBASD34VBThis is a top class plaer, effortlessly plays Video Cassettes and DVD but also has the bonus of playing almost every format know to man kind. I bought this as a replacement for my ageing DVD player and Video player that my wife has stolen for her own use. The thig I love about this beauty it the fact it will play Divx movies with ease, I know it doesnt mention it here but this was a deciding factor for me, picture is stunning in all formats, The outputs are plenty, Optical out, Co-axle out for your DTS amp. RCA line out for normal Hifi out great for DVD-AUDIO which I forgot to mention is also catered for. S-video out for flawless picture, Progressive Scan for tose with projectors or plasmas, RGB out for your Scarts and Normal Video out. amazing connectivity. I"ll give this 5 outa 5 its brilliant, just hope there will be firmware released to cover future formats. I have not yet found a format this thing cannot play!!! Thumbs up!

VenturerPS166WJust purchased from Argos for £175. Very happy with this product.Good screen size for the money and the built in speakers are spot on. Picture quality is very good.I have played DVD and CD without problem and with using the multi region code hack have had no problem with VCD. Every connection is provided and even though the battery pack is quite bulky it attaches neatly to the back of the unit. No hesitation to recommend this player. Cheapest around but does what it claims to.

ALBADVD40Formats: DVD,MP3,Audio CD,VCD,SVCD,KVCD,SKVCD

Connections: 1x Scart Out 2x AV Out 1x S-Video Out 1x Optical Out 1x Coaxial Out 1x RCA Out(Right + Left) Cables Supplied: AV Video Cable RCA Connectors (No Scart Cable Supplied)

Other: 1x Remote Control

Just a quick review to let give people some info on this DVD player after myself spending ages looking for techincal information other than it has a scart socket and played dvds.

The Alba DVD40 is a supprising good DVD player considering its only £40, it does resemble a old tape deck but if you are after a great DVD player for little money that plays VCD`s and KVCD`s then this dvd is perfect. Not being a fan of Alba i was a little warey of buying this DVD player without knowing anything about it, but with the Argos 16day money back deal i though "what the heck" and it payed off, i would recommend this DVD player to anyone, its small, quiet, quick reading brilliant picture quality and sound and superb build quality considering its a Alba, 5/5 buy this DVD over the other "Low Cost" (especially for the KVCD playback) DVD`s its worth it

BUSHP DVD 1000 7inI purchased the Bush P DVD 1000 portable player a week ago, primarily for use on my boat!

Although I have not yet explored all of the features on it, it is a wonderful, light machine which replays DVD's with high quality visuals and sound.

The battery fits snugly into the back of the machine, lasts a good 2.5 hours, and takes a similar time to recharge.

The 7in screen is excellent, especially considering that many machines offer only a 5 inch screen.

Time will tell how durable the machine is, but it is an excellent piece of engineering and my initial response is BUY IT!

PIONEERDV656 MultiregionOnce in a lifetime a major electronics manufacturer comes out with a product that literally 'knox the sox' off all the rest. This DVD player is just incredible value for money. All this quality in a good looking black or silver box for under £300. In the States though this model does not have SACD playback, hence the $199 price.

It's also available as multiregion and the NTSC picture output is superb. PAL picture quality through my Philips 32PW9617 is astonishing. Sound quality through my Sony STRDB940 and 30 year old JBL Lansing 99's phenominal.

If I could have one wish it would be that the sound shaping (tone) controls would be available when using the 5 analogue o/p's. Otherwise....grab one SOONEST
