SonyBDPS350I was going to buy the Samsung unit but was put off by the Amazon reviewsSony BDPS350 Blu-ray Disc Player 1080p Full HD Having got this instead i am very pleased with it- used in conjunction with Samsung 1080p LCD TV/HDMI - works very well but SONY need to rewrite the instruction book so people understand it a lot easier-looks to have been written by a technician- lots of connection options but u need to know your onions to understand it all-i got it working easy enough but wonder if it could be better- SONY instructions need to be better explained- big problem trying to register product as SONY web site not working- you need to register using enclosed CD in order to qualify for 2 free Blueray discs- Picture quality of Pirates of Caribbean absolutly magic- i now need a cimema speaker system to get the full effect- Hopefully SONY will get their act together and reduce Bluray prices as they are far too expensive. It is just a fancy DVD disc to be honest.Spend the money and u will not be dissapointed.5 out of 5Amazon Reviewer19/01/2009 01:01:01

SonyBDPS350I bought a Sony 32V4000 LCD tv and decided to go for the Blu Ray player too. I purchased the tv and HDMI cable from amazon which I received the next day, but got the player from elsewhere as £20 cheaper. I have been really impressed with Sony set up. Just fill in the options and away you go! My tv isnt 1080p and the 1080p option wont work or downgrade on this player. For 720p/1080i tv like mine set for 1080i. I went for the 32v4000 over the 32w4000 mainly owing to price but also that you dont see the benefits for 1080p unless the screen is above 32" apparently (friend of a friend who manages a Sony shop). I put in an old DVD (Lord of the Rings) to test and the picture has blown me away. The upscaler appears really good and the picture so much smoother than the old DVD player I had. I will probably borrow my mates Blu Ray Indiana Jones to see what the difference is with that. He uses PS3 on a 46" Sony X series and the picture is really awesome. Also the size of the product is good and not bulky at all. Overall I am really impressed with the Sony products I have bought (previously Toshiba 28" CRT/DVD/Video owner) and would recommend them.5 out of 5Amazon Reviewer09/01/2009 01:01:01

ToshibaXDE500I have recently taken the plunge into Blu Ray and will be purchasing only these from now on but due to the fact that I have a massive number of standard DVDs I was not particularly keen to replace all my existing DVD titles with Blu Ray titles - pretty expensive to do that!!. When I saw this player advertised (along with the promises from Toshiba of near HD quality from standard DVDs) I decided to get hold of one. The result is, in the main, very good. It certainly does make standard DVD images much clearer and sharper, however there is a BUT to this and this is that this player essentially lives and dies according to the quality of the DVD you play in it! If the disc has been manufactured and encoded well (by the studio)the results are absolutely fantastic but if the disc is poorly encoded (with a low bit rate) the results are not as good! No hardware/player can make any software/disc look better if the material on the disc isnt there in the first place!! I tried a well encoded DVD (Pixars Toy Story)and the picture was as near Blu Ray quality as it can be without being HD - if a Blu Ray version of this film is ever brought out I wont need to buy it!! However with older and poorly encoded discs the results are variable and I sometimes ended up turning off the picture enhancement modes. It is still a great upscaler (I view in 1080i mode on a 50" plasma) even with the enhancement options turned off. The best enhancement mode is Sharp giving extra edge detail and the player always starts, every time, with this engaged. With poor discs (with Sharp mode engaged) it will enhance any grain and MPEG compression noise in the picture which can make it look horrific and distracting - so dont be afraid to turn off the enhancement options. In conclusion this player does live up to Toshibas claims and I am very glad I got hold of one; but be careful of the DVDs that you feed into it!!5 out of 5Amazon Reviewer07/01/2009 01:01:01

ToshibaXDE500Bought this at a bargain price from Amazon (the price has risen again, why ??) but even if you pay full price for this baby, its worth the dosh... Using the sharp mode as well as HD upscaling, provides superb picture quality with any good quality standard DVD release, very, very close to genuine high definition viewing. As well as the unique sharp mode and 1080p upscaling, this machine will also do 1080p/24 frames per second, for standard DVD discs !! (My blu-ray player will only output 24fps with blu ray discs, but maybe other machines do this for standard DVDs ? Im not certain though...) The machine will also output 5.1 sound directly via HDMI, my previous DVD player couldnt do that, but again maybe this feature is commonplace now... The only bad points, : build quality and the remote control are nothing special, there is a high pitched noise (only noticeable in the dead of night, you wouldnt generally hear it), and its no good for 4:3 discs, but I have few of those and am happy to watch them stretched anyway.. If you have a large DVD collection, keep them all and buy this player, it will be far cheaper than replacing them on blu ray...Also many of the blu ray re-releases will not be specially great on picture quality anyway, whilst this baby will enhance definition beautifully.... 5 out of 5Amazon Reviewer27/12/2008 01:01:01

PhilipsDTR220I bought this product at £25 and find it performs very well in all respects. It is unobtrusive in appearance, of good quality and very easy to install. My aerial was upgraded just before I started using the box and this probably maximised performance.5 out of 5Amazon Reviewer25/12/2008 01:01:01

ToshibaSD280EMy DVD player refused to play any longer and I ordered this DVD-player a few days before Christmas. As usual, I chosed my company as the delivery address and when Amazon sent a message that it would be delivering after Christmas, I didnt see a problem. I was surprised when I read an e-mail on the 24th of December in the morning that Amazon would be delivering today. We are a European company and are always closed on Christmas Eve. I went to my company and put a note outside with my home address and you can image how happy I was when 2 hours later the delivery service came. Many thanks Amazon for this great service! The DVD-player was made just for me: simple to use and works fine. I just put the DVD in and press the play button. Although I have bought 99% of my DVDs in Europe, I also have some region 1 DVDs (like A Human Voice with Ingrid Bergman), which were never released in Europe. I followed the instructions below and chosed "0" (multi-region") and it works! If you choose the region once, it is not necessary to change it every time after that. I also wouldnt recommend choosing a special region, because some drives allow changing the region only once and "0" is for region "1-4", I believe, but I am not sure. 5 out of 5Amazon Reviewer24/12/2008 01:01:01

PhilipsPET830This is an amazing portable DVD player. I dont have any problems with the screen resolution as its been fine with most of my DivX avi files that i have played on it. I was looking for more information on PET 830 and PET 831 and both of them are of the exact specification except that PET830 has a USB port and the PET831 has an SD/MMC slot. If you want both of them, go for the PET1030 or the PET1031 models. 5 out of 5Amazon Reviewer09/12/2008 01:01:01

PROLINEDVDP708W SILperfect product for our 4 year old son with special needs, our son has autism and we needed a player with a fast forward button on the player ( most seem to be only on the remote now adays ) He enjoys watching the same part over and over again and loves watching on fast forward too. Finnally after searching the shops in town we were able to buy this one with the car bag for £69.99 all in from Comet, perfect... Son really seems happy, nice big screan. Buttons easy to use for little ones. Im searching the net looking for a 2nd one to keep as a spare. Battery lasts 2.5 hours, 5 out of 5emma30/12/2007 10:02:51

LafayetteLFDV969For what it is priced at, this unit is incredible! Using the component output on a 43` Pioneer plasma screen the picture is of a very high quality. Also, having tested both the optical and coaxial audio outputs on a top of the range Pioneer AV reciever through some large speakers I was amazed at the quality of sound that this low budget DVD player produced. As a temporary DVD player, before I buy an HD-DVD player, I am very happy with this unit. 5 out of 5Anon26/05/2006 08:06:25

WharfedaleWDP1210Reviewed by: Phil Cole Rating:4 out of 5 Date Reviewed:16Sep2007 `Its pretty good but when the battery runs out completely it will never work again`. NOT TRUE! The unit will run from any 12v dc source (car battery or even a small 12v motorcycle battery)and also the mains via a universally-available adaptor. The Clip-on Battery has a very long life if charged / used carefully and it is possible to replace the internal batteries when completely exhausted so to openly state that `When the battery runs out completely it will never work again` is totally misleading. 5 out of 5The-Radio-Engineer24/06/2008 14:36:34
