Terrific picture and sound quality partly ruined by a horrible remote control.
I bought this player to use with the latest Samsung 40` LCD TV. The picture quality is beautiful when upscaling ordinary DVDs to 1080 high definition, the technology is stunning, there`s some very clever stuff going on in that black box.
Another bonus I wasn`t expecting is that it also plays CDs with superb sound quality that I`ve never heard from a DVD player before. I am using the SPDIF output through a Cyrus DAC-X and the result is significantly better than from a Marantz KI CD player that I had always admired. Individual instruments seem to have real space around them giving a very layered sound stage. This is exactly opposite to earlier DVD players I`ve owned - previously you would play a CD on your DVD player out of curiosity then give up after a minute when even your low expectations weren`t met.
However the remote is a dog. Some of the buttons do nothing at all including the number pad. It is also not convenient when playing CDs. FF and REV are crude and it is best to turn the TV on to navigate through a CD.
the transport is noisy as well. If a disc is spinning in with the sound muted in a silent room you can just hear it working up to about 2m away.
