Electric Built in Hobs Buyers Guide

Electric built in hobs are aesthetically pleasing and immensely functional appliances for use in the kitchen. Unlike burners that are integrated into free standing cookers, these hobs are designed to be installed directly into the kitchen work surface, which means these products can be fully integrated with the kitchen design and not just the cooker itself. Indeed, a kitchen that boasts built in electric hobs in addition to a built in oven will usually offer considerable visual appeal as it is able to maintain the existing look and feel of the design layout. Free standing ovens, by contrast, cannot offer this same level of integration.

Built in electric hobs are produced by a range of manufacturers renowned for their engineering expertise such as Candy, Delonghi, Baumatic, Miele, Whirlpool, Zanussi, Tricity Bendix, Smeg and Rangemaster. If you are looking at electric built in hobs with a view to buying, you will want to give consideration to the size of the products as this will affect how easily they integrate into the existing kitchen design. Indeed, some of these built in hobs feature unique or unusual designs, such as Baumatic's intriguing frameless round ceramic hob with a diameter of 60cm. Also boasting a front touch sensitive control panel and three individual heat indicators, this electric hob is ideal for those who value style but not necessarily over substance.

A more traditional built in electric hob available from Baumatic is its B12 stainless steel product, which also features a stylish ceramic top in addition to four heat zones. The conventional rectangular shape of this hob comes in a size of 51cm by 58cm, which is fairly typical of such products. Indeed, 60cm width is a standard fit for most built in electric hobs, whilst products such as AEG's C6010KMN boast a slim line design of just 45mm depth, which means its integration can be more readily made seamless in a variety of work surfaces.

If you require a larger built in hob, you may want to consider Smeg's 72cm ceramic visual touch control unit, which features nine different power levels for each zone. The hob also comprises individual timers for each zone plus two beefed up 'super zones', which each offer 2.2kW over the device's nominal power of 8.6kW. In short, there are built in electric hobs to suit just about everyone's requirements.
