Electric Cookers Buyers Guide
Electric cookers exist at both ends of the price scale and can feature many different functions. Generally speaking, electric cookers will feature an electric oven, separate grill compartment and in free standing models, a hob section. Electric cookers are ideal for first time buyers and there are many great offers available. Furthermore, these products are manufactured by respected household names including Beko, Indesit, Tricity Bendix, Smeg, Belling, Baumatic and Rangemaster. Also available in dual oven configurations, electric cookers can be free standing or built in units that come in a range of different styles, including those finished in stainless steel, chrome and a range of other materials.
When buying electric cookers, it is important to remember these appliances must be connected to the mains electricity supply by a qualified professional. However, your primary concern should be in focusing on whether the electric oven itself is the right option for you. Most electric ovens will heat up more quickly than their gas alternatives and will offer better control over temperature settings. Gas cookers, on the other hand, tend not to dry out foods as quickly as electric ovens, so there are both advantages and disadvantages with either choice.
You should aim to buy a fan assisted electric oven where possible because these heat the oven from the top and bottom and include a fan to circulate heat more evenly. Thus, if you aim to cook various foods on separate trays in the same oven, you will ideally want a fan assisted model to ensure that you cook foods thoroughly in the correct time. Of course, many of the top cookers, such as the Rangemaster 57190 in brass, feature programmable timers, minute minders and slow cook facilities, so much of the work is done for you. Furthermore, this oven in particular offers one electric fan assisted oven and one conventional oven for greater flexibility.
Finally, when buying an electric cooker it is important to consider the range of facilities it comprises other than just the oven. Some models may offer browning elements, porthole doors, storage drawers, internal griddles and several different hob burners. Energy efficiency is also a key consideration whilst the widths of such appliances ranges from 50cm to 120cm.
