First impressions are good. Lush colourful graphics a fine control system the moments when you first enter the castle are the best. It is around about the third hour of play that you realize the game has some major flaws.
On a superficial level the music is pretty poor and doesnt really have the traditional Castlevania tunes. What is worse is that the level design is utterly baffling. There are times when it seems that you have been everywhere and done everything. Even after puzzles are solved you are still left with the feeling -how was I suppposed to know that. Even when you know the way you still have alot of backtracking to do.
Before you finish the games confusing castles of this game its most likely youll be sick of most the game areas. The monsters are not that hard but finding your way around is.
This Castlevainia adventure isnt one of the as it gets too tedious to soon. It doesnt have the killer atmoshphere of Castlevaina 4 or the level of involvment that Symphony of the Night had. Under the presentation you realize that there is very little zest in the title.
It is entertaining but there are some truly excellent games out there. My advice is buy them first.

I bought this having really enjoyed the first Castlevania title for the GBA, which was a great game and provided at least 15 hours gameplay. So what about Harmony of Dissonance?
To put it frankly, this game is far too easy. I completed it in just over 6 hours - which isnt a patch on the original. The reason for this? There are not enough enemies - about a third of the castle is just empty. And the bosses are a walkover, such as the giant slime blob, or the golem. Whereas I died several times in fighting those from Circle of the Moon, these guys were a walkover.
This is a shame, as Harmony does bring a few good improvements to the series. Graphically, its outstanding; colourful without being garish in what is Draculas castle after all. The spell systen which replaces the cards is much easier to use. There are also a couple of good twists in the game which I wont reveal.
My final point is another gripe. You can complete Harmony of Dissonance without having to fight Dracula! This may sound a bit geeky, but battling the fanged one is essential to Castlevania.
Verdict: a good game, but youll be left wanting more once youve finished it, which wont take long...
