ACCLAIM Burnout 2 Point of Impact GC

Burnout 2, like its acclaimed predecessor, puts fun right at the top of the agenda, dispenses with niggling irritants like realism and delivers top-class gaming entertainment.
So what's new? There are additional locations, including a twisty road round the Rocky Mountains and an inspired airport-based level. There is also a greater choice of vehicles. Naturally enough you have to balance your need for speed against the need for good handling and take into account the weather and the kind of level you're racing across.
Yet the core of Burnout 2 is still arcade-style racing and there's little else that does it better. It's incredibly accessible and an absolute blast to play. It doesn't matter whether you're competing in the enhanced single-player modes or hooking up with friends--it's completely irresistible. Visually, the game looks great and moves very, very quickly. The action is interspersed with elaborate crashes, and when you do hit something you shouldn't, you're rewarded with an action replay for your trouble.
There are genuinely very few negatives here. Those who prefer their driving games flavoured with a bit more realism are going to be happier with a Gran Turismo game. Also, despite some good improvements and additions, there aren't enormous differences between this and the original Burnout. However, Burnout 2 is an exemplary piece of gaming entertainment, and a welcome antidote to the growing band of games that just take themselves far too seriously. Treat yourself. You'll be glad you did

My previous review of this game was removed. I simply wanted to write a much shorter review on the greatest game of the current generation. Looking for a game to buy? STOP. Buy burnout 2. It is the most sense tingling metamorphisis extravaganza that is available currently. Ripping up the road on Big surf shores, two hundred plus burnouts, ultimate gaming experience. Forget burnout 3+4, the novices swarm around the plastic EA infected motorcars. You cant even chain burnouts. Yes, crashing is fine, to a point. Jesus. Trust me. I am right in stating Burnout 2 as supreme. Respect it, and learn how racing games should be.

Burnout 2 is a no-nonsense driving game. While others spend hours altering the cars ride height and suspension, fiddling with tyre pressure, getting the wing settings just right, all to go that 1 mph faster into the nearest wall and then blame the `rubbish settings`, burnout 2 does not. It gives you a car, you go racing. It is a crying shame the hype surrounds Gran Tourismo 3, rather than my choice, the frankly to good to be legal looking Burnout 3.
Ofcourse, some people like their realism. The crazy popularity of the average Gran tourismo series is testement to that. But burnout 2 doesnt try to be something its not, and admits that its a simple arcade racer. It achieves this by having massively user friendly handling, which is easy to pick up for beginners, but in the hands of a master can have the game pushing warp speeds.
The idea of a racing game is, naturally, to win. Burnouts twist is that if you live dangerously (drive on the wrong side of the road for instance) you get yourself a boost. Chain these together and your a shoe-in for victory. Unless you hit a wall/other car/fly off a cliff.
And this is where the game excels. The crash physics are fantastic, and make other games seem amature-ish. They really feel like they hurt, and make a terrible mess of your brand new sports car. And just for your enjoyment, a massive crash mode is added to see just how much damage can be done. A 30 car pile up on the M1 would look something like what can be achieved here.
This is a racer that appeals to the real man. No frilly brake settings or steering camber in this game to hide a lack of talent. You finish this game because you are the best racer, not because you have the best car. And that is what makes a classic racing game.

After reading the above reviews, and buying the game, I cannot believe what people have written here. I can only assume that EA Sports marketing team logged in and wrote those reviews. The game has so much lacking in Gameplay (remember that, anyone) and just overloads on the graphics. Sure the graphics are awesome, and mostly the driving physics of the cars is good, altho every car seems to drive the same, have the same handling etc. Only difference is some are faster. And the emphasis is too much on speed in this game, too much just thrashing as fast as you can with oncoming traffic. After a while you just figure out where the cars will appear from, and it gets boring. There is such gorgeous scenery in this game, such great bends and curves and hills in the tracks, if it were all slower you could really take it in, maybe enjoy swerving in-and-out of traffic and overtaking trucks etc. But no, its all about wizzing thru flat out with ridiculous skids around corners.
What a huge dissapointment. No customising of cars, very frustrating need to have to finish gold in every single race to move on to the next level... Aaargh I could go on forever.
And yea.. the crashes. So well done, really quite fun... but since when can you crash into oncoming traffic at 160mph and still carry on driving? I found that more frustrating than anything else. There is no penalty whatsoever for crashing! You can totally wreck your car, and yet PING, it appears totally rebuilt, and sometimes even ahead of the other cars on the track! AAAARRGH!! I played this in a week and its up for sale.
