what can i say? This is my favourite game of all time!! i have it on both DC and Gamecube.
I originally bought this game on the dreamcast and was IMMEDIATELY sucked in! The beginning is so exciting! Your controller will become un-put-down-able!! The storyline and characters are gorgeous and theres just so much excitement and adventure in the game (well you are an over-ambitious pirate, what can stop you?)! And it gets better! The Soundtrack is amazing! I really couldnt sum this game up in a review but ill try.
Basically youre a young nobody who wished to explore the world with your fiery best friend, Aika, and a strange turn of events lead you to break into an impossibly dangerous city and rescue someone! Then eventually you go on the explore the world because of *spoiler*. This game is just so exciting with all the impossible and breathtaking quests you must persist, as well as all of the exciting battles and best of all FLYING PIRATE-SHIP BATTLES!
The Gamecube port Skies of arcadia legends is the same, though random battles are less frequent (which is good!) and theres an added side-story-line and more rogues to defeat.
This game is well loved throughout the world, so much so that i even run a fanclub for it! i think the moral of the game is probably that nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it and the whole game is really like that! its like, holy-moly, this is an impossible quest, how will they ever get out of this one, but you try, and they do make it and its like whoooo adrenaline rush!
Seriously though, a must have for any rpg fan, i would seriously buy a gamecube JUST for this game (in fact i did)! the only bad thing about this game is that it has an end! ;_;
Reviewed by: Amazon Reviewer Rating: Date Reviewed: 22Oct2007 | | | This is a classic RPG no fuss, no mess. The story and general feel of the game is well rounded and complete, the game its self is huuuuuge. over 50 hours if you try and find every little secret, crew member and discovery. The story goes is - you mainly play Vyse a cocky air pirate who inspires to be everything his dad is and his band of pirates stand for. i.e Robin Hood - rob rich -give to the poor etc. On the way you pick up a gang much like any RPG, you explore, you fight - you rank and build up your characters as ususal. Though its the way you do it that makes it fun - Isnt that what you look for in a game?. The control system is very easy to understand and navigate, the game goes from hours walking about in a set dungeon to flying about in your ship. This brings the only problem in the game - There is no set battles so they can happen ANY time - no warning, nothing. Where this brings quite a non set formula, it does also means you CAN go about 3 secs (and this has happened to me several times)and get involved in a battle and then straight after finishing that fight 3 secs later. etc etc. Though this is irratating its the only thing that makes this a 4 star game not 5. But generally 25 hrs in (the first time)and Ill be honest not even scratched the surface .. you realise suddenly how good and long this game could be ...
Reviewed by: Amazon Reviewer Rating: Date Reviewed: 21May2006 | | | Being a lifelong fan of Final Fantasy, I am always very dubious of other RPGs. Or, rather I was. A couple of my friends wouldnt shut up about this game, so I decided to buy it just to see what it was like. The first time I played it, I couldnt help loving the graphics, even if they arent technically that good. They give the game a youthful, exciting feel, which is what the Blue Rogues are all about! The Blue rogues are a bunch of air pirates (flying ships...unbelievably cool) who steal from the rich etc. By the end of the next day, I was hooked, and the day after that I was in love with this game. I believe that it may be the best game ever created, really. And Gilders really cool. Sorry about that, but he is! By the time I neared the end, i then realised all the multitudes of side quests that are available, and that kept me going a bit longer! There is a ranking system, that goes from Vyse (thats you) the Cowardly, through Vyse the Daring, and finally Vyse King of Rogues. And there are specialist ones, like Vyse the Charasmatic for getting a complete crew on your ship, the Delphinius (which I want an engineer somewhere in the world to make...PLEASE!!!) or Vyse the Fisher King for catching 1000 fish. It seems strange, but this simple system draws you in so much, that I restarted the game to try and get to the uber-cool Vyse the Legend. (this is pointlessly hard to get). If you play this game, you will love it. Just dont use magic too much, or it will annoy you a little. Come on...Dance for me!
