| Bosch | AXT2000HP | I am a gardener and use this for brambles privet etc.I have owned this for 18 months it blocks up with leafy material.but it is so quiet and efficient a joy to to use.I find it copes with branches around 2 cms diameter but is happier with 1.5cms diameter. We have used it about 15 times for about 3 hours a time and it still works fine.We use petrol powered for bigger material .This shreder is fantastic for the money | | andrew h | 18/03/2009 09:23:05 |

| Bosch | AXT2000HP | Plainly, this isnt a heavy duty machine, but it behaves exactly as the other reviewers have said. Its superb at compacting and disposing of brambles, tree prunings etc, though I wouldnt care to use it on large, mature branches. Its a great pleasure to stuff one end of a ten foot bramble into the machine and watch it disappear.
One small point (though you cant realistically blame Bosch) is that the small spanner supplied for first time assembly isnt really man enough for the job - if you use it, youll end up with very sore hands. So plan to have a socket set available, and assembly is very easy and straight forward. | | Amazon Reviewer | 13/10/2008 01:01:01 |

| Bosch | AXT2000HP | Bosch was the first to use the worm screw to cut and shred larger tree branches.I have always bought Bosch tools, having had a few cheap and nasty brands in past years. The build quality is always good and solid. | | Amazon Reviewer | 19/11/2007 01:01:01 |

| Bosch | AXT2000HP | As I was buying a shredder for the first time I really had nothing to compare it with so I bought the best available in store.
I was really impressed with it on all counts.
It is easy to manouver, relatively quiet considering what it is doing, very easy to use and it actually becomes quite addictive to use.
I cannot believe I have taken this long to get around to buying one and it has taken a lot of the hard work out of garden waste disposal.
I was impressed with the relative ease that the machine deals with quite large branches and the first time used it for around 5 hours with no drop off in performance.
I would definately recommend to prospective purchasers. | | Amazon Reviewer | 08/07/2007 01:01:01 |

| BOSCH | AXT2000HP | This is a great shredder. It has effortlessly consumed the prunings from three apple trees,a leylandii hedge and a mixed hawthorn, blackthorn, sycamore and beech hedge. However, watch it if you are feeding Weigela prunings.I have had to strip mine down after a blockage that would not clear even when using the reverse function. The Weigela seems to be very fibrous, and was crushed rather than shredded -just as if I had tried to shred a pair of shoes. I have now un-jammed the shredder, but it keeps tripping the power supply now and the motor doesn`t run.Methinks that I am in for a big bill-and the shredder is less than a month old!( I can hardly claim under the guarantee for trying to shred ropelike material can I?) | | Dick | 31/10/2005 07:42:45 |

| BLACK & DECKER | GS2200 | An impressive alternative to the Bosch AXT2200HP. Its a heavy, well built machine and quite awkward to move around, but stable and very quiet in operation. It pulls in everything that will fit into the intake - I fed in some massive branches, with side shoots and crowns and it ate the lot. It shredded ivy, clematis, bindweed and loads of other green stuff that my old (German built...) machine with normal blades simply couldnt cope with. In over four hours of continual operation the GS2200 only jammed once and then immediately cleared itself to carry on straight away. You get a bag with it that folds flat when not in use. Only downside is that the feed cup isnt very deep, so its a bit awkward when trying to pour smaller stuff in, but thats a minor gripe. Highly recommended bit of kit and will pay for itself fast as I wont need to but bags of bark chips for mulching anymore :) | | Amazon Reviewer | 14/04/2005 01:01:01 |

| BOSCH | AXT2000HP | I recently bought the bosch atx2000hp. Mines a factory recon unit so I only paid £170 with a years warranty. Hows it perform ? Excellent.
Its quiet and surprisingly quick. I was shredding cuttings off my pine and cherry tree. The cuttings were in some cases 5ft long and about an inch in diameter. I didnt cut off any of the stems off the main branches. Once the shredder gets hold thats it...let go and let it do its stuff.
It works similar to a butchers mincing machine in that a corkscrew blade takes the branches and twigs down into the cutters.I didnt jam it once and it made very short work of the 6ft high pile of prunings. It was happy taking the ivy cuttings but the conifer trimmings (leaves) were a bit of a pain as the corkscrew was not able to grab hold easily. I sorted this problem by stuffing it full of leaves and then putting a branch in. It dragged the leaves into the cutters. I did try a garden cane to push the cuttings into the blade but it took the cane out of my hand.... With the shredder using a corkscrew type cutter and not a large spinning disk with blades on it, its quiet, and with a 2000watt motor driving a corkscrew type blade it is very powerfull. Even old roots from a bush I had dug up that took both hands to cut with the pruning shears went through it without it jamming. It also has a reverse on it so if you do manage to jam it, put it in reverse to get it out of the cutter.
A great bit of kit but use with respect. Once its got hold of the item to be shredded, KEEP CLEAR. If I had paid the full retail price I would still give it a excellent rating. A 5 out of 5. | | P Skipper | 06/07/2003 20:57:54 |

| Draper | 69673 | Original review:
I reviewed this item after its first use because I was very impressed.
Unfortunately Ive tried to use it three times since and it is a pile of junk.
That first use seems to have blunted the blades so much it will only allow through the pieces that are small enough to fall through the gap anyway. It makes a lot of noise as it resists whatever is offered and eventually shuts off when you inevitably try to force the situation. I have not tried anything near the size it can apparently take.
I tried to dissemble it to sharpen or replace the blades, but the hex screws just chew up; so its now even more useless.
I will be complaining to Draper very strongly, as this is the biggest waste of time and money I have ever made.
Apologies if anyone bought one of these on the strength of my misguided joy.
Would give it zero stars but there is no option when editing a review. | | Amazon Reviewer | 21/07/2005 01:01:01 |

| BOSCH | Axt 2200 Hp | Much better than an impact shredder. Cheaper versions of this technology (slow gear cutter) are available from other brands, so price is the only issue. | | fatgit | 14/01/2005 09:35:17 |

| Bosch | AXT2000HP | It works well the problem is that when the helix blade wares, which mine did after about 15 months. They state that it dosen`t require sharpening, that is because it cannot be sharpened. It costs #70.00 for a new helix plus all of the hassel of fitting it.

| Draper | 69673 | A diabolical waste of money. Worked well first time - very impressed. Utter rubbish from then on: blades blunt and unable to take ANYTHING. I had used it appropriately. Sent many messages to Draper via their `we guarantee to reply within three days` website and received nothing in return. From my experience, do not buy this and best avoid Draper altogether in case you need their service later. See Amazon.co.uk for other, similar, reviews. | | S | 28/10/2006 09:44:10 |

| Draper | 69673 | We have lots of shrubbs and cuttings in the garden which we usually chop up by hand, but the idea that this could be shredded and used on the garden was appealing. We bought one of these based on its power, its cutting ability, and a competitive price from the supplier we bought from. It was a while before we got it assembled and tried to use it. We used it on a couple of occasions, on the usual garden cuttings - certainly nothing near the maximum diameter of 40mm. It actually shredded for a couple of minutes before jamming, and once cleared would only ever `chew` the material and not shred it. We contacted Draper direct, who said that they had had a number of problems/complaints with the shredder, and arranged to collect and look at the machine. It was returned a few days later with a note saying it had been tested and found to be ok. Overall, this is worst bit of kit we have ever bought, and would not recommend it to anyone.

| Draper | 69673 | We have lots of shrubs in the garden needing to be cut back every year - we normally cut these up by hand before disposing of the cuttings.
The idea of a shredder doing this for us, and being able to use the waste on the garden appealed.
We saw the Draper advertised with its abilty to chop 40mm dia cuttings and with a powerful motor and thought that this was the answer.
We started to use the shredder, and within minutes it jammed, and jammed again and again, never actually shredding the material - more like "chewing" it.This was on small branches/cuttings, no where near the apparent maximum diameter of 40mm.
A phone call to Draper told us to turn the blades around - which we did with no improvement. Another call to Draper told us that there had been a number of problems/complaints with the machines, and the offered to look at it for us.It was returned to us a few days later saying that there was no fault with the machine.
Overall, this is the worst bit of garden equipment we have ever bought, and cannot recommend it to anyone. | | Amazon Reviewer | 23/04/2006 01:01:01 |

| Power Devil | PDG4015 | I was a bit dubious at buying this shredder considering £49.99 is a third of the Black & deckers, but having had good service from a Power Devil mower, I decided to give it a try, after all...if it don`t do the job. I can always take it back!
My faith in the brand was justified. The shredder worked most efficiently with my mountain of Blackthorn, bramble and Budlia prunings, reducing it to a neat barrowload of chippings, very impressive and not too noisy. Cleaning was also easy. Remember...it is a lightweight so as long as you don`t go overboard with the size of twigs and allow it to take its own time, you won`t go far wrong with this little beauty.

| BOSCH | AXT1600 | I used to hire a beast of a shredder that didn't work all that well for ~£30 a day. Then I bought a B&Q special for £80 that hardly worked at all then blew up after 15 minutes. The Bosch works! It works so well, and devours stuff with such obvious enthusiasm that I have been running round the garden looking for more stuff to feed it. | | Gerry Gault | 29/07/2003 16:15:12 |

| BOSCH | AXT 1600HP | This shredder was quiter than I expected and also shredded faster than I thought it would. I filled a wheelbarrow with chopped wood in 15 minutes. | Bosch | Axt 180 | Having read the earlier review I was dubious about this shredder but faced with an 8 x 12 mound of our neighbours unwanted clipped overhanging leylandii branches, we needed something to reduce the heap to something manageable - and this has performed the job admirably.
Its taken a good mix of wet and dry branches, leylandii logs up to its 33mm capability, foliage and a good mix of our various pruned bushes.
Having looked at several clippers, I chose this due to its large feed opening - some have such a narrow slit that it would take ages to feed branches or twigs one at a time. With this machine they can simply be piled in and they are fed through to emerge as small clippings. A 4 x 3 sack stuffed with mixed branches and foliage was reduced to little more than a supermarket carrier in just 15-20 minutes.
Having struggled with loppings in the past and wasted hours cutting lopped branches by hand into smaller more manageable chunks I can only say I wish Id bought this shredder years ago. Its well worth the money! | | Amazon Reviewer | 23/08/2008 01:01:01 |

| BLACK & DECKER | GW250GB | No more backaches picking up the leaves, a boon to my gardening activities.
Blowing action very impressive and suction achieves what it is designed to do. Not too heavy overall and the balance around it's handle seems better than all the other manufacturers on offer, plus the nozzle is now equipped with a roller for additional support. Instructions appear very wary of where it can be used safely, so if gravel paths and tarmac are a no no then what happens if you suck up the odd twig or bark chipping?
It all needs a bit of skill development to ensure only leaves are picked up...but then practice makes perfect. I'm happy with my purchase so far, but safety glasses, gloves and earplugs are a must. | | The Ageing Gardener | 07/09/2002 08:36:42 |

| Power Devil | PDG4015 | The shredder works well, but like most shredders will clog up with fibrous green material. | BOSCH | AXT 200 | It"s my first garden shredder so I had high expectations given it"s a Bosch. Here are my findings after an hour or so shredding. 1. doesn"t cope well with fibrous/leafy plants. 2. avoid leaf cuttings off a pine tree 2. blade chipped and appears to look blunt 4. jammed several times 5. burning wood smell when there"s a tiny piece off branch wedged in

| Power Devil | Shredder | Works well when new, but single blade quickly goes blunt. Although reversible to get a fresh edge, the blade cannot be resharpened and the distributer never holds replacements in stock, so it can sit useless for months after one weekend's work. | | Ken | 12/10/2003 18:51:23 |

| Power Devil | PDGGS2200 | I had a very servicable Power devil 1400 watt shredder that eventually packed up. Decided to `upgrade` to this 22oo watt, 40mm job. What a mistake. Absolute pile of junk. | Power Devil | PDGGS2200 | Bit Like Vincent with the bolts but persevered and got it assembled. This product is certainly not able to do what it is supposed to do. I have tried several different approaches and feel that I have given it a fair chance. It is a piece of junk and is the most frustrating piece of junk at that. The exit chute clogs up if you do manage to get anything through it. Mostly the input chute clogs up. It cuts out and finally the safety switch now works in reverse. It will only run with the top cover off! | Performance Power | PWR1800SA | Bought this shredder a couple of years ago from B&Q. The salesman recommended it to me and said that it was a newish model and quite powerful for the price. Maybe so, but I was dissapointed with it the first time I used it and I`ve only used it twice more since and I`m still dissapointed, in fact I`m going to have to buy a better shredder as this one is just not up to the job. The blades don`t stay sharp for more than 5 minutes and they are virtually impossible to remove for sharpening. The damn thing blocks up every 5 or 10 minutes and you spend more time opening it and closing it than shredding. I used it for the very last time today. It blocked up about 5 times in 30 minutes and the last time it just tripped out repeatedly on restart. To make matters worse, when it trips out, you`ve got to open and close it before you try to restart it. Steer well clear of this pile of junk. A complete waste of money and effort.

| Performance Power | PWR1800SA | I bought a Performance 1800w shredder and after just an hour of struggling, gave up. A horrible piece of kit, it requires forceful pushing of the twigs and will not handle soft stuff. Anything non-rigid, bends and gets skimmed to a lesser thickness and jams the machine up. I spent more time opening up with the long-threaded bolt to unjam it than I did shredding. A classic "Unsuitable for the use..."

| BOSCH | AXT 200 | I would strongly agree with the other reviewer - I spent 3 hours generating 2 barrows of mixed quality mulch. The shredder struggled to cope with 1cm diam wood, and with pliable privet hedge cuttings of no more than 3mm diam, it simply stripped it rather than shredding. The blade seemed to blunt very quickly - I would rate it 0 out of 5 if this was an option. Not one of Mr Bosch"s better designs. | | Neil | 05/11/2004 10:32:30 |

| BLACK & DECKER | GS1400 | NEVER buy one of these. I had mine a week and B & D have had it back for 3 weeks. You can operate the blade with the body off-VERY dangerous. It jams every 5 minutes because it doesn't clear the shredded material-even when dry. The plastic body is so thin a twig from inside knocked a 4 inch hole in the body.
This really is a rubbish product and should be withdrawn from sale. In addition B & D's service back up is hopeless, spare parts unavailable, 20 minute waits on their call centre phones, promised call backs dont happen, etc. etc. | | SHAKER | 10/10/2002 08:46:37 |

| Performance Power | PWR1800SA | Bought this following a good experience with an electric lawnmower from the same brand. The mower looked cheap but was quiet powerful and robust. This thing is the opposite. Looks pretty, does nothing. A complete waste of money. Doesn`t seem to be able to handle anything at all. In a race between this thing and snipping bits up with a 1.99 secateurs, the secateurs won hands down. The design has no mechanism I can see for pulling waste through. You`re basically pushing garden waste into the face of a slotted spinning disk. That would be OK if it worked. It doesn`t. Its beyond belief that anyone would design this let alone make it and market it. What a waste of money. | | Brown Eyebrow | 02/05/2008 19:04:52 |
