Hair Clippers Buyers Guide
Hair clippers are staple items in the world of mens' hair care and have come a long way from their days as the oppressive icon of military conscription. Indeed, hair clippers are no longer about providing the perfect shaven head for avoiding lice in the trenches – hair clippers are at the cutting edge of personal grooming. Many male models, celebrities, footballers and fashion icons have brought the shaven headed look back into mainstream popularity where it was previously endorsed only by paramilitaries and the worst kind of football fans. Thus, they have become hugely popular, especially among male consumers.
However, what constitutes a good pair of clippers and what are their limitations? In order to answer these questions, buyers must first be aware that the most recognised brands on the market are not always the best cutters. Wahl, Philips, Remington, Nicky Clarke and Babyliss have all made their fair share of poor quality hair cutters, although most of their latest generation offerings are typically very good. Nevertheless, the first points to consider before buying some are how heavy they are and how they feel in the hand. Naturally these are aspects that are difficult to appreciate fully when buying online but certainly the weight ought to be not too light or too heavy, which is a matter of personal preference. Weight and ergonomic grip are important features as hair clippers will generally be used by someone trimming their own hair.
Another critical specification is the number of cutting lengths offered. Some clippers will be able to produce crew cuts that are either extremely short or relatively long, which allow for different styles to be achieved quite easily. In this respect, the more advanced hair clippers will have preset style programmes, which means that owners of clippers are not consigned to merely shaving their heads but can experiment a little. Typically, a good pair of hair clippers will have between five and fifteen length settings, which range from the virtual skinhead look to Beckham boy chic.
Hair cutters must also have some degree of contour shaping to avoid leaving clumps of hair behind after several passes. Furthermore, the clippers must be easy to clean and maintain, whilst it is essential that they hold enough charge (if cordless) to endure a prolonged trim.
