| Sumvision | 2.5 Aluminum Hard Drive Enclosure USB 2.0 | Patchy. I`ve had one of these for about a year. While USB 1.1 support seems reasonably stable, neither my XP desktop or laptop recognise the device when connected via firewire. USB2 support works OK on my laptop, but on the desktop it doesn`t like to play ball, even when plugging the device into the ports hardwired onto the mainboard. The mainboard on my desktop is an Asus K8N-SLI Premium from October 2005, and plays quite happily with other USB 2 peripherals. Oh, and it only runs -on the desktop- after it has been connected to a laptop, and then it disappears after some random period of time. An interesting, but frustrating, piece of hardware. The disk ran connected to my XP laptop for about a week, then the drive disappeared completely. Maxtor support is useless and I haven`t found a fix yet. The HD refused to appear on my desktop! They told me that I would have to pay for data retrieval if I decide to return the disk and want my data back even though the HD is still under warranty! | Samsung | HM060II | The HD has died after only 5 months of light use!!!! This is in a Dell Inspiron 1300. So much for their advertised reliability. Oh, and the Sony cd/dvd drive packed up only two weeks ago.
