To all you good people my tv (mod)36ZP38B has just done what all yours
have done I havnt got in touch with Toshiba yet but its fantastic to know
what part to ask for I would have been stuffed otherwise thanks to all of
you for your infomation many thanks.

option 1 was sorted in under 5 minutes the new part is being delivered to
my tv engineer free of charge so hopefully it will be working again
shortly

problem - and got it sorted! We have had our 36ZP38B for 3 or 4 yrs
without a hitch until last night. Suddenly vertical lines appeared on the
screen and then the screen went black. The sound was fine, the menus
worked, but no picture. Trying a DVD didn`t help, so we knew it was the
TV. After a few minutes the TV switched itself off. We have left it
overnight and this morning on switching it on again it was fine - for
about 2 minutes. Then many types of narrow vertical lines appeared,
changing constantly, the picture flickered in and out a few times, then
the screen went black again, and the TV switched itself off (the safety
feature referred to). Tomorrow we will call Toshiba and hope for the same
good service that others have received, and hope we can find a reasonable
repair-man to sort it out. Still, hugely disappointed that a Toshiba
product of this price range should have such a problem - given that we
have had Toshiba TVs before, some still going well after 10 or 15
years.

Toshiba (Hazel and Janice at 01276 694000) who were very friendly and
helpful, diagnosed fault, offered and provided and provided replacement
scan converter. Neither of Toshiba-nominated local TV engineers would
repair except at workshop. Andrew McCulloch (Cambridge) cheerfully and
courteously collected, repaired and returned for £100 inc.VAT - but it
took a total of ten days from call to Toshiba to get set back again in
normal excellent working order. rating of product 5/5 - except for this
problem!

2007. I phoned Toshiba after Holiday but was told to contact one of their
recommended service dealers.No mention of known faults.Dealer would not do
on site repairs and wanted a fortune to collect,repair and return TV to
me.
I then phoned a local repair man and he contacted Toshiba and we got a new
SCM free of charge.He then called and fitted it which took about half a
hour.

They were really helpful and said they would send out the part FOC as soon
as I had decided who I wanted to repair the TV.
Because the TV is so heavy, the repair man fixed it in my house for a cost
of £80.25 inc. VAT. He confirmed that the spare part would normally have
cost well over £100 from Toshiba.

same problem has come back, from what I`ve been reading it seems it`s very
common with this model, such a shame as it`s a really good tv, great sound
and great pic but a bit too expensive to keep repairing. I believe if you
phone Toshiba on their help line they will send a new scan converter for
free but they will only send it to one of their aproved tv repair centres
so you still have to pay labour.

when the problem started. The picture disappeared and we had coloured
vertical stripes instead. This lasted for a few minutes and then TV
switched off automatically. Toshiba weren`t interested and told us to get
in touch with the retailer. BIG NAME but they didn`t want to know until we
got in touch with Consumer Direct. BIG NAME then gave us a number for an
engineer to come and do a CAUSE OF BREAKDOWN REPORT-A BREAKDOWN OF COSTS-A
RECEIPT SHOWING COST OF OBTAINING REPORT.When he arrived he had PCB DFS
PB0825 part and fixed it there and then saying that this was a common
fault with this model. He won`t put this in writing so we can claim our
repair bill because guess what? It was the BIG NAMES own engineer!! We
didn`t know that. But now I know from this site it is a common fault.

week period from accasional funny colours on the screen to different
colours everything red was a perfect blue and everything blue was a
perfect red.... it was really confusing while trying to watch Chelsea v
Man utd.... the following day after 3 weeks of picture probs the screen
dissapeared but the brilliant sound was fine.... ANYWAY PLEASE NOTE...
after taking to a reputable repair shop i was told that the SCAN CONVERTER
MODULE had gone (part no. HX01) and was going to cost £180.00 repair! i
went to the shop to ask the breakdown of the bill and he said that the
part was nearly £140.00.... upon this i said hang on, i want to see if i
can buy one cheaper and went away today and had a look on the internet to
make sure i was`nt being ripped off .... But as i searched i found this
site with comments from a guy called Russ ... who had also got this fault
and said to ring Toshiba on 01276 694000 and politly explain the problem
and they will confirm it is a re-accuring problem and send out a modified
board FREE OF CHARGE...... i phoned them and they did..... CHEERS RUSS
.... YOU SAVED ME £140.00 or nearly letting my repair bloke have the tv
for accessing.... ITS A LONG WAIT ON TOSHIBAS TELEPHONE SO BE PATIENT AS
THEY ARE VERY HELPFULL.... I SPOKE TO A GREAT GUY CALLED NIGEL, (JUST FOR
YOUR REFERENCE.

superb but now i`m experiencing pink patch on r/h side and jerky picture
motion i have been quoted £200 plus to fix by my local repair shop. as
with russ above i`m now going to contact toshiba to see if they will also
replace scan convertor f.o.c.

colour, patches of pink, green on screen and the picture looks like a
cartoon then the Scan Converter Module HX01 needs replacing. This is a
common fault with this product that Toshiba have put right. Call them and
they will send out to you the modified cir board free of charge. All you
have to do is take it to a local tv service dealer to get the board put
in. ( Remember this set needs 3 people to carry ) Toshiba can be contacted
on 01276 694000 and select opp 2. They are very helpful after a short
wait.
