MICROSOFTWindows 2000 Professional Product UpgradeBuilt on the same architecture as XP, 2000 is basically just a more classic looking version. Though its a few years out of date, new software will persist in being computable with it, and its simplicity and administrative options are perfect as just a working computer. Its very speedy and is not surprisingly still used in many, many Offices, libraries, and schools - all thanks to its great networking solutions and slick performance. Weve had Vista and it just doesnt compare - Win 2K just works!5 out of 5Amazon Reviewer26/10/2008 01:01:01

MICROSOFTWindows 2000 Professional Version UpgradeAny home or offices users need look no further - this is fantasitc! Its modern features make it much easier to use, the new filing system means it is incredibly stable, and it is actually impossible to get the deadly "Blue screen errors" where your computer enters DOS mode, because a new structure means Windows 2000 works seperately to DOS - not combined (MS-DOS), resulting in a simpler, quicker boot-ups, better administration, and easy use without annoying errors that cause file corruption. This Prffessional package does exactly what it says - it really is Professional. And because of that youll be safe in the knowledge that you have many new features, and lots of stability, as well many Back-up features that protect data loss and really neat log-in features for when more than one user uses the computer - ideal for families, offices, schools e.t.c. For best performance, I would reccomend alot of memory - currently I have McAfee anti-virus software, and 40 other background tasks that work comfortably with my 512 mb. A new Windows Security System is also included that allows many options when you press ctrl + Alt + Delete. The task Manager is also improved, giving features like RAM, System, and memory performance levels. This is ideal for quick access to knowing whether a program is responding or not, and can be quickly brought up from the bottom right of the screen. One thing I did notice was how much more user friendly this OS is, compared to older windows. Admitedly, it doesnt look too different, but its the little changes that make all the difference - dialog boxes clearer, on screen text spaced out more, yellow help information boxes, programs (in the start menu) sorted between how much theyve been used, its endless, and like I said you will only notice these changes the more you use it. The amount of control you have over the system is fantastic too. Win 2000 comes with an Administrative Tools folder that encloses many features that makes running and overviewing your computer easy and efficient, whether you want to know whos been doing what, how healthy your hard drive is, or.. well, anything. But its to no suprise when thought about - this is proffessional bussiness software, but very straight forward to use. This really is a perfect operating system. Dont be fooled when you think of Windows Millenium - this is not the same operating system! Windows Millenium was a very bad OS that ws bugged unreliable. I would definatley reccommend Windows 2000 Professional to any home user - whether your planning on having a network of your own or not. Its just XP with classic windows looks that have slightly been updated, and many companies prefer this to XP. Unliike XP, it has just what you need, and no fancy programs / looks to make it appear better. Give it a try!5 out of 5Amazon Reviewer11/11/2005 01:01:01

MICROSOFTVirtual PC 2004Imagine it, you have Windows XP Pro running on your computer, typing a word document, listening to a few tunes; and in the background, minimised SUSE 9.1 is installing quietly without hogging too many resources. Not only this but in another Window Im testing out a program on Windows 95, and I could even boot up a MAc if I wanted to! All from my desktop. Gone are the days when you had to buy a new PC (or hard disk) for each OS you owned. You can run them all off your desktop, at the same time! Server, Windows, Linux, OS/2 it supports nearly all of them, and they can even see each other; and perform just like real PCs. Excellent for customer support teams, software developers or PC enthiiasts; it is a great baby-in-the-bath-water program. Have multiple operating systems o your desktop simultaneously. Test your new apps, hook a Virtual PC to a server, without affecting the rest of your network, simulate a client help and support request problem, and all without restarting your PC, or complex partitions! Brilliant, simple and effective. Why arent all MS products like this?5 out of 5Amazon Reviewer14/08/2005 01:01:01

MICROSOFTWindows 2000 Professional Version UpgradeI have been running this on my Laptop as a upgrade from Windows 98. Works fine. Sometimes a little slow to start up butt dont let that bother you because once you get into it it is secure and stable. You can run it by itself or with a dual boot with Linux of Windows 98. A great OS that runs just fine. Its NT base gives quicker than Windows 98 responses to my Office 2000 and Visual Studio 6.0. A stable and operating system all around.5 out of 5Amazon Reviewer03/11/2000 01:01:01

MICROSOFTWindows 2000 Professional Product UpgradeMicrosoft Windows 2000 Professional is by far the best Microsoft OS on the market. Based on the Windows NT kernel, and integrating many of the features of Win98, Win2000 is a dream to use. I am a home user, and although Windows 2000 is mainly targeted to business users, I have had no problems with it. Running alongside Office 2000, Windows 2000 is rock solid as far as stability is concerned. Compared to the windows 95/98/ME code, this OS is very stable. With the inclusion of DirectX 7.0a, modern games tend to work without a problem. I can run such games as The Sims, Grand Prix 3 and Star Wars Episode 1 Racer without any problem. All drivers included in Windows 2000 are digitally signed, so you are guaranteed to be using the best drivers around. The Internet runs very well, with IE 5.01 integrated into the OS. Windows 2000 is let down by the way it eats up resources. I would recommend nothing less than a 500 MHz processor with at least 96MB ram. Windows 2000 is not for the beginner, but advanced home users will certainly appreciate the improved stability. Forget Windows ME, Windows 2000 is the way to go!5 out of 5Amazon Reviewer28/08/2000 01:01:01

MICROSOFTWindows Me Millennium Edition UpgradeI have found Windows Me to be unreliable, very buggy and at times, incompatible. There are some ridiculous bugs that this OS ships with, such as major problems with System Restore and Disk Defrag - which can leave your machine unbootable unless the appropiate Windows Update files have been downloaded and installed. Windows Me is no more reliable than Windows 98, if not more unreliable with plenty of Blue Screens and Illegal Operations - frquently caused by Explorer itself. Thinking of using Internet Explorer 6? DONT install IE6 on Windows Me - there are some serious problems that are reported and that I have encountered myself. It is quite appalling to think that Microsofts latest home OS will not function correctly with their latest Internet browser. Windows 98 has no problems with IE6 but due to bad planning and outrageous flaws in Windows Me, IE6 is largely incompatible. My advice: If youre thinking of buying Windows Me, instead stick with Windows 98SE, or buy Windows 98SE; a much more stable and reliable OS. Windows Me has a few useful features but the disadvantages and problems far outweigh any gains you may encounter by installing Me. For now, Windows 98SE is the Microsoft home OS to go with!4 out of 5Amazon Reviewer10/10/2001 01:01:01

MICROSOFTWindows Me Millennium Edition UpgradeFirstly, Windows ME is an improvement on Windows 95, particularly in terms of Multimedia and USB support. It has reasonable performance and reliability on my 266MHz PII with 64MB RAM. The two problems that make this product deserve its two star rating are: 1. Word 97 crashes absolutely reliably after a few minutes whenever I try to write a letter. I seem to be able to read documents without this happening though. 2. The upgrade process from Windows 95 (~14 3.5" disks) is ridiculous - in order to verify that you have a genuine copy it makes you insert each of the 14 disks in turn, doing a full (and very slow) read of each one. I had to reinstall Windows ME several times, to get a fully working dual boot system, and it really isnt funny. If you are upgrading from an OS that came on floppy disks, get the full version (or another OS) instead, and save yourself a lot of wasted time.2 out of 5Amazon Reviewer18/09/2001 01:01:01

MICROSOFTWindows XP Professional Edition UpgradeI bought this upgrade specifically to use remote desktop -- however it does not work. There are many reports on the web re. Remote desktop black/blank screen no login dialog box. I have used remote desktop on other machines & connections without problem but there is clearly a problem with many connections using the version in WindowsXP sp2. Microsoft has not acknowledged the problem, produced a KB article or a fix for this yet. My suggestion is to avoid this until at least XP sp3 is issued. Concensus seems to think this is due to a poorly designed/implemented remote desktop protocol -- apparently it does not handle fragmented packets. [Some have found changing the MTU size from 1500 to 1400 using a third party tool fixes it for them. However this did not work for me.]5 out of 5Amazon Reviewer24/07/2005 01:01:01

MICROSOFTWindows XP Professional Edition UpgradeThis maybe the most reliable version of windows ever made, but it certainly doesnt show it when it comes to chess programs. I notice even when you scroll the mouse accross the menu bar in various chess programs, the program crashes, even in chessmaster 8000. not even the latest patch could resolve the problem, reducing it to an anoying slab that stayed stuck in the screen preventing from any progress. Ive always liked to play my chess programs as they do play like humans and well they are my best friends, as when they come up with a cheeky chess move to see if you fall for it, and the fact that they are always there if you need a game, they are without doubt my favorite friends and i look after them. WHAT? then comes along WINDOWS XP and does nothing but argue with my best friends (my chess programs: chessmaster, chess tyger 15,etc) Im sorry i got rid of it and put windows 98 back instead, which works fine with my chess programs.1 out of 5Amazon Reviewer16/09/2004 01:01:01
