I run a very busy tea room and have many microwaves which do get alot of use. The Panasonics always seems to come out best with easy to use controls, wipe clean front panel, and easy to clean interior. The stainless steel interior means a mild abrasive cleaner can be used to remove any stubborn stains. As a tip though, I put a mug of hot water with a slice of lemon in it and turn microwave on for a couple of minutes - this softens any stubborn dirt and you can then just wipe it over with a damp cloth. I cannot understand why the previous reviewer finds it difficult. The turntable, like all microwaves, fits onto a shaped spindle but as long as you line it up correctly it slots into place with no problem. Although this is called slimline, the interior space is very large. Very good value and I will definitely buy more in the future.
Reviewed by: Amazon Reviewer Rating: Date Reviewed: 07Feb2009 | | | I loved this microwave, used it every day for almost 2 years. Then, mid cooking session, it tripped the RCD and died abruptly. No digital display. Nothing. Not so much as a goodbye. Ive tried to find someone to repair it, but they all say its cheaper to replace it. It made great jacket potatoes, but to be honest, most of the time I only used the microwave function, so think Ill replace it with a much cheaper one, and probably not Panasonic. Im very interested that other people have the same problem, so there seems to be a design fault somewhere, and it would be helpful if Panasonic could show rather more interest in investigating it than they have done so far.
Reviewed by: Amazon Reviewer Rating: Date Reviewed: 28Jan2009 | | | Im not sure what to do now?! A friend has the same unit in a different colour (but same tech data) and its been running for two years or so.
This is a great unit; its so easy to use, you might be forgiven to think youve doing it wrong. The auto-weight feature is not only quite nice, but almost essential, as most pre-packed foods give times for microwaves of 650w & 800w. Obviously, at 1000w the times are (usually) a little shorter (dont bank on it, though).
Not sure how struck I really was by the grill (but I admit to only having had the chance to use it once), but the oven function I found very useful.
One niggle was that on 1 minute (not other times), at least my unit would just beep, but restart, doing another minute. Imagine something urgent coming up, and you thinking your milk will be just fine and you coming back 4 minutes later to a block of cheese. Thats the only thing I, until yesterday, could really fault the unit on.
So, whats all this past tense about?
The warranty for this oven was 12 months and I got it Nov 07. Now its dead, no lights, no turning plates, 14 months later, two months after the warrantys out. Panasonic, from the description, reckon its the whole unit gone (what does that mean? transformer? all three cooking modes gone in on press of the start button, using only one mode? hmm...). Well, yeah, its off & dead, nothing works, I figured that before phoning them.
Then the call out costs alone, just to find out whether Panasonic might consider paying either for labour or parts, outside the warranty, is a downright affront, at around £40. Turns out, a unit, which, here on Amazon, cost a bit under £115 would - if one were helped out - be £90, or thereabouts, to fix. And the £40 go, whether its then fixed or not...
They admitted themselves that its probably a better option to buy a new unit with a new warranty. Great idea! Just not sure itll be another Panasonic. Have to sleep over that...
(Uurgkss, and only a day before it blew, I ordered a Panasonic DVD-Burner; now Im keeping my fingers crossed...)
So, until 24 hours ago, Id have given 4 Stars (one Star off for the cheese-making problem), but 14 months for a microwave is not an impressive lifetime and I wasnt taken by Panasonics charges.
Reviewed by: Amazon Reviewer Rating: Date Reviewed: 22Jan2009 | | | I bought this Microwave Combination Fan Assisted etc oven middle of November 2007. 13 months later and it stopped working. I placed some salmon in to defrost and 10 seconds later completely dead. It wasnt the fuse. I called Panasonic who wasnt interested and gave me a London Number as this company does the servicing. They wanted £42.50 to just come and see what was wrong and then what ever it cost on spares etc to repair. Well what can I say? I thought Id bought something solid, but this seems to have been a big mistake, no Panasonic for me anymore, Thanks Panasonic for your care :(
Reviewed by: Amazon Reviewer Rating: Date Reviewed: 17Jan2009 | | | I spent some time researching Combi-ovens before purchasing a Panasonic NNA554W. It is a lot more powerful than my last microwave oven and therefore cooks quicker. In my opinion, the instructions are easy to understand and the oven is easy to use too, that is why I give this oven 5 stars. Its fun cooking in it and trying different recipies and pizza is superb.
Reviewed by: Amazon Reviewer Rating: Date Reviewed: 02Jan2009 | | | I have had two NN-A554W and both developed exactly the same fault in exactly the same place (burnt door seal) after very little use. I still dont know how or why that happened and Panasonic couldnt or wouldnt explain it. As the second appliance was still under guarantee (just four months old, less than two months of use) I got my money back (thanks Amazon). I now need another microwave but I will not be buying another Panasonic. I advise all users to check the door seal regularly.
Reviewed by: Amazon Reviewer Rating: Date Reviewed: 31Oct2008 | | | I bought this six months ago and used it very lightly. Last week it just stopped working. So Im out all that money and am stuck with a big, heavy oven. I cant even throw it in the bin. I have to have someone come and haul it away. Just use your oven and a cheap microwave and dont waste your money.
Reviewed by: Amazon Reviewer Rating: Date Reviewed: 21Jul2008 | | | This is the worst microwave I am sorry to have bought. Every tiny spatter of food sticks to the rough steel lining when using it as an oven or grill and is quite impossible to clean. The turntable is a Chinese puzzle to fix back on the awkward shaped spindle. In addition both the interior light and the outside timer are difficult to read in all except the most subdued lighting. The one point I do give it is for its average microwave capabilty.
Reviewed by: Amazon Reviewer Rating: Date Reviewed: 26Jun2008 | | | I bought this microwave / combination oven as a replacement for an earlier Panasonic model which was faulty and out of warranty. The microwave function is fine, I can`t complain, but as a convection oven it`s a real pain. Because the grill element is on all the time it burns the top of food before it`s anywhere near cooked - e.g. if you put in a frozen cauliflower cheese it will burn on top after about 15 minutes but it would take 30 minutes for the food to thaw and cook through. I wish I hadn`t bought this microwave.
Reviewed by: Anon Rating: Date Reviewed: 11May2008 | | | I bought this oven as a replacement for an older Panasonic microwave / combination oven.
Because of the design, the grill element is on all the time when you are using the convection oven. This causes food to burn on top even before it is cooked through.
I wouldnt recommend this as a convection oven. The microwave functions are fine.
Reviewed by: Amazon Reviewer Rating: Date Reviewed: 06May2008 | | | I have just been offered a refund from Comet after this microwave developed 5 faults within 6 months. Unfortunately I had to get trading standards involved as Comet insisted on a fifth repair! I thought I had purchased a quality product but found it very disappointing.
Reviewed by: anon Rating: Date Reviewed: 30Jun2007 | | | This microwave oven is not really a combination convection oven. It`s a microwave plus grill. When using as a convection oven a fan blows air over the grill element which is on all the time and the food is easily burnt by the radiant heat. If you intend to use it to make items like cakes then don`t buy this model, we did and are very disappointed.
