I bought one of these as a replacement to my original power supply, which overheated after many hours due to the vents being covered. After shelling out near fifty quid, choking at the cost, I took every care not to let it happen again, making sure the supply was sitting free and never to have the 360 on for too long without letting it have a cool down.
I noticed right away that this was not a genuine like for like product. It gets blisteringly hot after an hour and seems louder than the original (though this may not be true as I had the original covered).
I used it for a month without hassle, until my girlfriend had been playing for a couple of hours, the 360 suddenly turned itself off. A red light flashed on the unit for a second before a hiss and sizzling sound and a lot of smoke came pouring out of the vents. The back of the supply is melted and buckled in the middle.
Neither of us are excessive gamers, occasionally well pick it up and very occasionally well play for more than an hour or two.
The model of power supply pictured is exactly the same as the one melted to my floor, do not be cheated out. Fifty quid is a lot of money to shell out every time you want to have a session on your xbox, look elsewhere.
Microsoft dont offer an official replacement as far as Im aware, so lamentably I couldnt suggest where to get a quality one.
