Excellent delivery time scale, excellent all-in-one printer and good print quality. Really useful for wireless as I can run off my two PCs.
Would recommend this printer to anyone as long as they have room as you need to be aware of the dimensions of this as a large size printer as well as access required to top TFT screen and front/ rear paper trays.

My old Canon printer started giving problems, probably because I used compatible cartridges. Also, I had old slides to copy, so the 970 seemed a good replacement. It does a fantastic job, produces great slide copies, great prints, and easily copies documents too. The text recognition works really well, and I am just delighted with the machine. Also, I had no problems setting it up. It worked out of the box.

I needed a new printer for a number of reasons. The Epson Id had for about three years was refusing to use its magenta cartridge and also didnt talk at all to my iMac about cartridge levels etc. Similarly, I couldnt find a Mac driver for my old HP scanner, so it was a good time to consider an all-in-one, something Id been reluctant to do in the past based on results about 10 years ago. Things have really come on since then. Desk space was also a consideration, although this is not a small item. However, the total footprint is, of course, much smaller.

Firstly, the third party supplier, Shima Uma was fine and the printer arrived in the early part of the delivery window. Setting up was simple. Time to print! Using glossy photo paper, I tried a few of my better photographs - horrible. They looked washed out and grainy. As I was unable to do anything about it the following day I tried again the following evening. After about the 6th or 7th print the output was stunning and has been ever since. Ive no idea why it seemed to need a `running in` period but subsequent printing has been flawless. Ordinary text work is as youd expect it to be, crisp, fast and of near-laser quality.

Using the MP970 is very intuitive and the navigation system using the buttons and wheel is simplicity itself. the accompanying software, Easy Photprint EX is also easy to use and matches the printers output well to the paper.

The Scanning - brilliant! Ive scanned in 35mm Slides, 35mm Negatives and existing (commercially produced) photographs. The resolution and colour rendition is excellent. OK, I get better quality from my digital cameras, but thats to be expected.

Im not sure what the running cost are going to be like and based on my past experiences of using third party inks, Im probably going to stick to Canon.

Overall - Buy it! The 5-ink technology produces excellent colour. The only question to ask yourself first is `Should I go that bit further and get A3?`

I took delivery of the printer about a month ago and so far im happy with the results. Setting up was easy - installing the software from the cd onto the computer then connecting the printer using a USB cable from my previous printer - (canon doesnt provide a cable ) and straightaway the computer recognised the new hardware. Im very impressed with the CD labeling facility which is easy to use and gives a more professional finish to home made CDs and ive used this feature a lot. I havent used the negative / 35mm printing facility yet but the photo prints ive run off so far have been excellent quality.
All round i would recommend this product its solidly built and quiet in operation and has lots of useful features.

I was very impressed with the photo quality of the printout even on Tesco standard photo paper. The scanning tool is very user friendly and scans well. I havent tested the ether net connection yet but that was one of the reasons I bought this model. The other reason was its 35mm scanning tool which is easy to use and produces detailed results. I do find that all of my scanned negatives become brighter when scanned compared to the developed pictures, but I found this also happened when using a photo shop to put film onto a CD for you. The lack of quality in the 35mm appeared to only apply to dark pictures. This is why I have awarded it only 4 stars. It is very easy to use and set-up is straight forward. Compared to the new model the MP980 I think this is a really good buy. It uses the same inks apart from a new special grey ink for monochrome and the 35mm scan function is the same. The other major difference is it has wireless ether net which I didnt need.
All in all a great bargain and prints my photo shopped Canon EOS450D pictures beautifully with the flexibility to do everything else you could want bar fax!

Our old HP printer died and so we needed a new one. Recommendations from friends pointed us to an all in one rather than just a printer. Sadly all their recommendations where now consigned to history!

A bit of research brought us to the Canon range and we discovered this. It does all we want and the bonus is it scans slides and negatives too. The results are excellent. No problems setting up or using it at all.

The scans are great and the printouts superb. All done in quick time too.

You can buy cheaper, but I would highly recommend that you consider this one too.

Have benn using my new printer now for a few weeks. Havent got a bad word to say about it. Easy to install (Ive only installed it using the USB leads and not a wireless network).Whether its scanning, copying or straight printing the printer is very easy to use and the results are superb. I would recommend this printer very highly.

Having finally given up on a Kodak all-in-one which had looked wonderful but proved a big disappointment, the MP 970 is proving a real delight (as satisfying as the older Pixma 650 my husband has but with more bells on). Easy to set up, easy to use, clear guidance, fast printing, excellent quality, cartridges promise to last a respectable time. prompt no-fuss info when called for(e.g. out of paper). So far it is living up to expectations derived from previous reviews.

This printer is the latest model and anyone who has a digital camera should have one. I was able to set it up without any mishaps. It will even print on both sides of the paper! These days the facility to connect to mobile camera phones is a plus, as you can take pictures of interest to the media and immediately download to your printer, edit them as necessary, then email them in a very few minutes. I liked the way the printer is fully integrated with my computer and displays appropriate instructions on my computer monitor. The ability to scan 35mm film means your old photos can be preserved and printed without a separate scanner. In fact this machine is so versatile that I was rather surprised that it didnt make the user a cup of tea while printing. At £168 this is a real bargain for such a top of the range machine. NB this model does not have a fax facility.

All the review of this printer has not been wrong - it is a very good All in one printer.
Photo print is outstanding and diasscanning is also very good although it is very slow (2 min per dias). Duplex printing also is very good but slows the print down considerably.

having owned an Epson 950 for a few years until driver issues with Vista and blocked inkjet nozzles came into play, I looked at Canon instead to provide me with a good all-round printer with scanning functions. I was not disappointed.
For the price the Canon beats any Epson hands down. For one the print head is a seperate unit so if it becomes blocked or faulty in the future it can easily be replaced. The print quality is absolutely spot on. Photos are streak free and the colours vibrant. Printing onto CDs on the Epson 950 was always trial and error, and invariably left a few faint trace lines across the disk. The Canon MP970 produces wonderfully printed discs, text and photos on them are very clear. Genuine Canon ink cartridges are reasonably cheap as well. It used to cost over £80 to replace the ink cartridges on the Epson 950 with genuine Epson ones.
General print quality is great, copying is quick and easy. All functions can be used standalone without the computer needing to be on, including printing from memory cards.
The supplied software from Canon is an excellent package.
Wired networking is easy to set up. Would recommend using a router with it rather than installing it directly into the back of a computer for shared networking. On our network we have 2 wireless laptops and 3 wired computers that can all use the printer effortlessly. Software installation for network printing is quite easy, however be careful of Vista if you have Security Embedded Software such as fingerprint readers etc. as you may need to set the permissions within the system adminstrator settings.

I may be waxing lyrical about the MP970 but after years of sticking with Epsons I am so glad I changed to the Canon, they are 2nd to none for this type of multi-functional inkjet printer.

this all in one printer is a must for any office or even home bought it for my wife and she was highly delighted with it as it is so easy to use and the cartridges are easy to replace so go ahead and buy one its well worth the price

I bought this printer on the back of the reviews Id read on line, including those on Amazon but I have to say that Im extremely disappointed with this printer.

It sets up very easily and the software is very easy to use, however the photo print quality is appalling. Theyre grainy, almost bubbly in places. Ive tried 3 different types of photo paper, all top quality paper and the same thing happens. I tried everything on the FAQ on the Canon website, deep cleaning, print head re-alinement - and its no better.

Just a point to reiterate from the other reviews - Canons `support` is absolutely dreadful! They DONT reply to emails and the person I spoke to on the phone (after 12 mins on hold) was rude and unhelpful.

After getting a fault reference for the 1st one, I had a replacement - and the print quality was worse!

Extremely disappointed.

This is not a cheap printer, but it is a high quality device. We have used this for 4 months connected to our network at home and linked to 4 computers. Setting up is very easy using Canons quality software. We have used most of the functionality, such as:
- scanning, where you can select from the printer menu which computer on the network you want to send the scanned image to;
- photocopying, which is easy to do and very good quality;
- printing photographs, which are produced in excellent quality;
- double sided printing, which I didnt realise the printer did when I bought it - very impressive.
The quality and action of the printer are excellent, with features that you might not expect e.g.
- the ink cartridges light up, flashing when they are nearly empty;
- the output tray opens automatically when you request a print;
- I can print direct from my camera.
Only negatives are the size, though it is actually smaller than my last printer, the slightly flimsy rear load tray and the high cost of replacement cartridges.

Delivered promptly by Amazon, as usual. It does everything very, very well - fast office printing, excellant photography printing, good scanner for negative, slides, originals etc.- Probably not up to professional photo quality. Unly downside is it is a big printer so you do need space for it.

I bought the printer mainly to scan negatives and to print them.
I use both Windows and Mac with a USB connection to the printer.
Even if not entirely satisfied I would buy this product again.

PROS:
- very good scanning quality (of negatives and slides, good speed, rendering of colours, shadows, etc.);
- the print quality is comparable to the one of Boots;
- silent and relatively fast;
- broad range of print/scanning options (I did not try the OCR, yet).

CONS:
- the USB cable is not included;
- on Windows the software requires 800MB and on Mac 480MB. The scan a colour negative at the maximum resolution produces a file of about 20MB. My windows machine has 512MB of RAM and they are not enough for such scan (I use a Mac with more memory);
- not all programs included with the printer and installed in Windows are also installed in Mac. That is, in Windows there are programs that are not installed in Mac;
- the Canon support is rather bad!!! To my understanding they have an automatic answering system dealing with the first time a question is asked. If the user is not satisfied and s/he asks the same question again, then a human answers. This means that a tricky question is answered in about a week. Overall, this means that you should hope not to have a serious problem;
- As all the inkjet printers also this one needs to be used at least once a week in order to avoid the heads to get stuck with dried ink (of course, there are cleaning procedures);
- the biggest problem I have with this printer is that I did not succeed to print a picture on A4 under Windows. Anyhow it works under Mac.

I have had the printer for a week running via a Netgear wireless router (Mac Mini via cabled ethernet and MacBook via wireless, both on OSX Leopard)and whilst the quality of the printer output is fine the instructions and software leave something to be desired. After a successful setup the printer decided to stop printing via ethernet connection. Jobs would go to the queue, the printer would make encouraging whirring noises but then the print job would change from processing to stopped. It would print via USB (when I put it back to check) and would copy from the scanner so the hardware was fine. Eventually I downloaded the CUPS OSX Leopard driver and that has (so far!) seemed to do the trick. Next step is to try and get the old Dell laptop running Windows XP to talk to it.

Come on Canon, please get a human to write your guides.
