DIY power tool Product Review 18 July 2006
Summer is here - and there is not a better to start on those jobs you've put off again and again. While you consider flooring the loft or installing that new set of shelves, it might be time to sort out a new set of tools for your home. Those looking for a good cordless drill could do well to look at the Metabo BSZ 18 Cordless Drill/Driver. The unit comes packed with a Lithium-ion battery, allowing the unit to last 40 per cent longer than units with conventional rechargeable batteries, despite weighing 40 per cent less. The 18 volt tool gives users 549lb of torque, while weighing only 4.85lbs. It includes a battery cooler, allowing the system and charger to remain at optimum charging power and charging up to 30 per cent faster than conventional units. Users of circular saw's may be interested in a new patent pending product from Arcus. The Arcus Professional Circular Saw Blade will turn a compatible circular saw to arc cutting or perfect circle saw, allowing for circle cuts from 30 to 35 inches. The product is a 7.25 inch circular saw blade, compromising of 24 teeth, a 5/8 inch arbour and C-6 carbide tips. To cut circles and arches, users can use the Arcus Professional Saw Guide, made of 14 gauge tubular steel for durability. Finally, those needing a compact drill/driver solution will be interested in the Bosch Pocket Driver. Like the Metabo BSZ 18, the Bosch 10.8 volt drill comes equipped with a Lithium-ion battery - making it half the weight of a conventional 12 volt drill/driver. The Pocket Driver features an LED light for working in darkness, a 30-minute charger to allow a user to continue working and a quick-change chuck for ease of use. Great for jobs around the home needing a bit more power than just a screwdriver.
