DVD players Review 14 May 2008
The third generation of Blu-ray players is upon us already as Panasonic unveils its DMP-BD50. This incorporates the ability to go online to retrieve multimedia via the BD-Live feature, as well as the option of playing directly from a Blu-ray Disc. Panasonic suggests that it also unlocks the potential for movies on the format to feature multiplayer games as extra features, which could see the gaming and cinematic entertainment worlds brought that little bit closer. With the addition of VIERA Link capabilities, home cinema enthusiasts with multiple Panasonic devices installed at home could expect to control all of their units with a single remote.
Meanwhile, Pioneer recommends its own products as being ideal for anyone looking to get a cinematic experience in their own home. The Elite BDP-05FD is one option from the firm which, with gold-plated connectors, may please those who put their faith in high-quality connections to ensure image standards are maintained. The luxury feel of the player is boosted with the addition of touch-sensitive controls, while the front panel is presented in aluminium for style-conscious users. Pioneer advises that videophiles and audiophiles alike should find something to approve of in this model.
Should that assertion prove incorrect though, there's always the Pioneer BDP-51FD BonusView Blu-ray player. While this may lack the aluminium finish of its Elite counterpart, the on-screen interface is all-new, according to Pioneer's specifications, which may prove enough of an update to keep fashion-aware owners happy. The use of the interface aims to unify the Blu-ray players with other devices produced by Pioneer, as well as providing access to modify the settings of the player. This allows output to be tailored to the screen being used - whether it be LCD, PDP or even a projector - ensuring the cinematic experience is enjoyed to the maximum without any visual glitches. © Adfero Ltd | |
