Nintendo sales record 'smashed' 19 March 2008
Super Smash Bros Brawl has broken the record for the fastest selling title on Nintendo platforms, it has been revealed.
Figures from Nintendo show that, since its launch for the handheld Nintendo Wii console, more than 1.4 million copies have been sold in the US alone.
This is a new record for purchases of a Nintendo title by consumers in the country, the company says.
Executive vice-president of sales and marketing Cammie Dunaway comments: "It's important to remember that we have lots more fun on the way.
"Upcoming titles like Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit will keep our momentum going strong."
Iconic characters such as Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog and plucky Pokemon Pikachu may be responsible for the widespread appeal of Super Smash Bros Brawl.
Super Smash Bros Brawl was initially launched in Japan but, following the US rollout, Nintendo noted that European gamers would have to be patient until the official introduction of the game to the continent. © Adfero Ltd | |
