Practically a launch title, and heavily discounted from the outset, Polarium definitely feels like a bit of a rush job: the graphics are minimalist, the soundtrack is nothing more than a few rarified blips and bloops, and theres not much going on in terms of different play modes. The gameplay is fiendishly simple with some scope for logic an planning, making it more like Tetris than the current crop of `flail-puzzlers` like Meteos and Zookeeper, although the stylus-based action requires a swift and steady hand. Sadly, the hand required is perhaps too steady: in the heat of the moment the control system seems to fight against you, and the game is so knife-edge difficult that this invariably results in near-instant death, which spoils an otherwise furiously addictive puzzle game. Rough edges aside, this game is ridiculously cheap and youll get a good month or so of compelling play out of it, so its worth adding to your collection.

This is a game with the same basic aim as tetris, to clear the screen of horizontal lines of blocks before the screen fills up. Instead of having to fit random block into each other all you have to do is draw lines across blocks to flip their colour from black to white (or visa versa).

The challenge mode is feindishly hard and the blocks come very quickly but it will keep you coming back for that all important one last go.

Aside from the fast paced challenge mode there is the more cerebral puzzle mode. There are no time constraints in puzzle mode you can take as long as you need to work out the solution. Sounds simple? well you have to get all the blocks on each line the same colour by only drawing 1 continuous line with your stylus. The first few puzzles are very simple but one you get past the first 20 they start to get you really thinking about the path of your line.

This is a great game that can be got very cheaply now and is well worth the money for the hours you will play it. just be careful it doesnt take over your life altogether!

Following reviews of this game , and following my previous addiction to puzzle games on handheld consoles , I thought I would enjoy Polarium immensely . Unfortunately the learning curve was either too steep for me , or my brain was not able to get the concept . As such , I had to trade it having not got very far with the game .
Technically , though , the game is a delight , with excellent utilisation of the touchscreen pad and stylus ; which makes my frustration with the game all the more disappointing .
If there was a recommendation I could give people , it would be try before you buy - it seems this game may not be everyones cup of tea .
