I got this game to play with my 7 year old son and found it such good fun that I play it without him! The puzzle element of the game is set just right for casual gamers like me and the physical element of the game - throwing as hard a possible - is superb. Best of all the current price of the game make it a must have. Great original fun.
My 10 year old had fun playing this but after the initial excitement of a new game I dont think he will spend much time on it. Maybe its because we are new to wii and wii games, but its not what I expected. At the end of the day every part of the game involves you knocking something down - the fun soon runs out! I realise its a 3+ game, but the description seemed to promise a lot more.
Remember Tetris and how addictive it was? As every GameBoy owner should have a copy of Tetris, all Wii owners should have this. Its fun to pick up for 2 minutes or fills an entire evening just as well. Buy it
I tend to enjoy games which are unique in some way, which is why I bought this. It makes excellent use of the Wiimote in some really fun and entertaining ways. There are one or two glitches sometimes with the pointing system at times, but recharging the batteries seems to improve that a good deal.
It has a very flexible physics system, which lets it represent big structures of blocks, which can be pushed, pulled, smashed and exploded. As a particular fan of physics-based games, I find that aspect really enjoyable too.
Unfortunately, it just doesnt feel like there is enough variety in the single player game to make it really good. It is certainly loads of fun, and it has a beautifully quirky style, but I think the gameplay could have been developed and built-on a little more. The levels which are there are certainly very creative though, and good fun to play.
The multiplayer mode is quite fun and worth trying. However, the ability to create your own levels is not terribly good... its rather fiddly, and it feels like they just put it in to show off a little!
Conclusion... really fun game. Be prepared to get a little frustrated at times, because some of the levels can be really hard to get full points on, but well worth playing. If nothing else, it will remind you of why you bought a Wii in the first place!
Like the title says, this game is lots of fun and has so many different play options that I dont think I could ever get bored with it.
Single player is massive and gets increasingly harder with progression. There is a tutorial to start things off, then four massive worlds to play through, and then some unlockable really hard levels. With bronze, silver and gold medals to achieve on each level, and no set way of winning, there is a lot of reply value.
Multiplayer has so many options that I just get confused! I cant go into detail here, but multiplayer options are all encompassing and you can have competitive games with friends and family of all age groups. For up to four players as well.
The game also has a level editor for those who have the creativity and time to invest in it.
Ive really enjoyed this game with my wife working together taking turns in single player.
The game is a charm to look at, maybe a bit too cutesy, but essentially the game is about bashing down blocks, so the characters and backgrounds often go unnoticed. Actually, being able to send the little sheep people flying by throwing a bowling bawl at them is hilarious, sorry.
The graphics are good and the physics are spot on. A level could never be replayed the same as the physics act realistically.
Boom Blox 2 is coming out soon and I think that would be even better. I remember someone who worked on Boom Blox saying that for the first game they concentrated on getting the physics and game play perfect and left graphics and presentation quite basic, but with the sequal, big improvements are being made to level design and presentation. To be honest, the first game has good presentation, graphics and attention to detail, so I look forward to the sequel.
Overall, if you own a Wii, you should own this too. Essential.
This game is not for kids. The deftness and accuracy of control required mean this is definitely for grown-ups. That said, its complex enough to mean its always a challenge, but simple enough to pick up very quickly. The levels progress well, and each challenge brings something new for you to figure out. We really enjoy playing against each other, and the levels are good for quite a few repeat games. Not sure it has enough depth to keep us playing throughout the year, but its definitely the kind of thing you can play with guests.
Boom blox is, overall, a mighty good game. I cant give you comparisons with other games from EA, as Im relatively new to all of this. But, nevertheless, boom blox is extremely fun, especially when playing with friends, but it can give you arm ache, so watch out if youre planning to write an essay the following day! I enjoyed mostly all aspects of boom blox, but I think more adventure levels in more scenes/scenarious would be appreciated. Its got good graphics and I love the tiki sounds (youll find out later what I mean). Still havent got quite to grips with creating my own levels, but hay! Ill get there eventually and no doubt, so will you. My advice, if it doesnt work the first time, just take your time and look around. Sometimes, asking a friend to look at it too is a good idea. Gives you a fresh perspective. So, finally, all lovers of a friendly, fun for everyone (including the cat when she sits in) game, this is ideal for you!
A great little puzzle game with something for everyone. This is one your wife will play with you, which is the barometer for a successful Wii game in my book. At £15 you cant go wrong, buy it.
I bought Boom Blox based on a great review in the Nintendo Magazine but wasnt sure what to expect from it as I had not heard of it before then. When I started playing it, I realised why it had been rated so highly! It has a very simple concept but it is highly addictive and there is so much to do. It has been compared to Jenga but it is so much more than just pulling blocks off a tower. There are loads of levels to complete, which get more and more challenging. It deserves much more attention than it has received.
It has a great one-player story mode and the multiplayer option is great fun. You can choose whether you want to work with each other as a team or competitively, which both work really well. I havent has a chance to try out the Create mode yet but am looking forward to giving this a go too.
This is a great game, which I think is a must-have for any Wii collection.
Probably the most fun Ive had with my Nintendo Wii since Wii Sports, simply put a great little game that deserves far more attention.
The genius of the Wii has been to create games that for the first time in this generation can appeal to such a wide demographic, and this is a perfect example. Easy to pick up and tough enough to keep you interested the physics based gameplay fits the Wii remote like a glove. Think Tetris but cuter and with a throwing action. Sorry that doesnt help describe the gameplay very well, but its basically a mix of knocking down towers, manipulating blocks, shooting targets and more than a little Jenga.
This is one of a very few games that I will never sell, its one to come back to time and time again (I cant wait until my little boy is old enough play too).
As usual a great party game for the Wii. But for a 3rd party piece of software it actually is incredibly enjoyable.
Basically Jenga with lots of extras if you havent read the reviews.
Havent yet tried it with a non-gamer to see if it is as fun as it is with my gamer friends, but I bought it because having played a friends copy it looked like it would be easy to get into.
If you are a competitive family, then this game is for you! My husband and I are now full of aches after almost throwing ourselves at the television, trying to beat each other and the children! This was the cheapest game we bought for Christmas and is most definitely the one that has brought the biggest squeals of delight.
I encourage all families to buy this game. You wont regret it!
I loved Mario Galaxy and since then have never found a better game on the Wii, (apart from RS4), something thats addictive and fun to play with your other half! Graphics and music great, similar maybe to tetris, its blocks and additive, bargin for £15
Then think hmmm lets add balls, lazers and 3D OH and a build tool.
Then you have boom blox.
Boom blox is one of the most fun games I play on the WII and it is really a gem. Firstly let me say that I am normally a action FPS or RPG gamer so this kind isnt the normal stuff for me. However this is just pure fun.
There are so meny modes of play and vs modes for you and some friends!
Plus the build mode is fantastic so much fun and when you unlock extra stuff by doing the levels you can make all kinds of things/levels! Also in build mode you can unlock toys to use when playing the thing you made you can just wreck all of it with lazers and boweling balls which is fantastic for built up stress or anger.
Over all a great game maybe a little too hard some of the latter stuff for familys but overall great buy.
