| Activision | LEGO Star Wars II The Original Trilogy PC | What a game. Buy it, play it, enjoy it. I bought it for my son (8) and hes had hours of fun on it, and when he goes to bed its my turn. Go on. You know you want to. Yes you do. You do. | | Amazon Reviewer | 20/01/2009 01:01:01 | | |
| | Adventure Company | Atlantis Evolution PC | What is particularly good about this kind of game is that youre free to explore in your own time, at your own pace. It doesnt allow you to make fatal errors: there are games where you need to do everything in exactly the right order or nothing works. Games like that are just plain silly: lifes too short. If you die or fail, you always come back into the game at pretty much the same point.
You do need to be pretty assiduous...look closely at all times but mainly this game can be played without a walkthrough. And surely thats what its creators wanted. I really enjoyed it. And the storyline makes you think, although I doubt if any of the gods would have got much out of the subleties of the storyline! | | Amazon Reviewer | 16/01/2009 01:01:01
| | dreamcatcher | Painkiller Black Edition PC | I have to say that even though Painkiller is a few years old now, it still looks stunning. The weapons are original and even the default ammo-less melee weapon is fun to use. The story can mostly be ignored and some of the tarot card challenges are quite hard, the game play itself is excellent and well balanced. | | Amazon Reviewer | 29/12/2008 01:01:01 | | |
| | Hip Interactive | Pariah PC | Whilst the more recent titles such as Bioshock are engrossing and quite challenging, I wanted something simple and lightweight for a few hours of Doom-style carnage. With all the noise related to DRM currently getting on everyones nerves, I thought Id open the cellophane on this bargain bin inhabitant, save a lot of cash and avoid the potential Securom festive bloatware that is currently infecting the high street shelves.
Blacksite : Area 51 proved lightweight to the point of airheadedness; bug-ridden (both code and adversaries), easy and short, but also a noisy and sometimes enjoyable blast.
Pariah, much derided by critics at the time, released to cash in with the Halo clones on the market, is actually quite good. Combat mechanics shamelessly apes Halo (which became tiresome for me), but is none the worse for doing so. Your character is a gun-toting physician, more Doc Holliday, than Doctor House. After a transport ship crashes, you are tasked with escorting a female prisoner to safety. The prison planet means there arent too many adversaries to shoot, and their lack of
imagination in tactics (they wouldnt give a moving platform a challenge, never mind a bot) means theyre never a real threat unless youre surrounded. Your female sidekick spends most of her time running away, so elements of strategy in keeping her alive never arise, which is good, as I was tempted to shoot her myself. For the times I suffered the odd blond moment and wandered into a few too many rockets and grenades, the game restarts at pre-specified save points. The ease of the game on normal settings meant these were never too onorous to repeat, and are not spaced too far apart.
Weapons are the usual machine gun, rifle, shotgun, raygun, rocket/grenade launcher loadout, but some element of customisation has been introduced to upgrade your toys, with the odd weapon core left carelessly on the maps. It never changes the way you approach the game, unfortunately, just requiring fewer bullets (which are plentiful) to do the same thing. There are a couple of vehicle sections, but these are unimaginative, using the same driving mechanics as Halo.
Graphics show their Halo-era raggedness, the living dead cut scenes remind me of the Yop yoghurt adverts with some animated lips over a static facial texture. Half-Life 2 this is most certainly not, but its a reminder why Halo stuck the main character in a helmet. Of course, this has the benefit on being able to be run on 2-3 year old hardware easily. One issue of note was with Blink video, under Windows XP. The game needs to be run in Windows 98 compatibility mode (check out the properties of the program icon) to start up successfully.
A rousing score helps the acts of cartoon heroism, and some ragdoll physics add a little humour when grenades are launched, as does shooting off enemy helmets. Its all adequately done, whilst never being as frantic or achieving the melodrama of Valves finest.
Even though age has wearied Pariah in several ways, its still a good few hours blast, and for the price that it now lists at, a no brainer, no Securom stocking filler.

| | UBI SOFT | Il2 1946 PC | If you want a realistic WW2 combat flight sim then look no further than this. It has all the previous incarnations of "Forgotten Battles","Aces Expansion Pack" and "Pacific Fighters" and also includes the "Pe-2" and "Sturmoviks over Manchuria" add-ons which were previously pay-to-download only together with the campaigns from the first "IL2 Sturmovik" that started the series, all on the one disc.
You can fly in just about every theatre of operations from the Eastern Front to the skies of western Europe to the deserts of Africa or the islands of the Pacific from Pearl Harbor to Southern Japan.
Approx 240 flyable aircraft recreated in minute detail, from fighters of the late 1930s to the fighters and medium bombers of the Allies/Axis forces at the height of the conflict, to the experimental German and Russian jets, some of which never got beyond the design stage, at the end of the war.
Excellent flight and damage modeling. Superb graphics and effects.
The only downside is the engine sounds on a few aircraft such as the Spitfire and P-51 dont sound like the real thing.(I am being very severe with that criticism, its just that I adore the sound of a Merlin engine!)
The scope for adding downloads such as paint schemes is absolutely endless (I currently have well over 200 schemes just for the P-47 Thunderbolt and P-51 Mustang!!). The official IL2 forums are a thriving and friendly community and now there is a growing unofficial modding community that allows you to add still more aircraft as well as user made sounds, effects and even complete theatre maps making this sim grow to ever more epic proportions.
The Microsoft Combat sims are very ugly, crude and clumsy in comparison and are not even in the same league.
I have never had a problem running the Sim, I am currently on XP Pro. I do run it as the Administrator so perhaps that is why. To anyone who is having problems may I suggest you visit the forums and post your problems on the "Community help" section. I guarantee someone will be able to assist you. Copy and paste this link into your address bar to go to the Pacific Fighters page: []
and look on the "Forums" section.
I bought the first "IL2" on its release in 2001 and it has remained, in one incarnation or another, on the hard drives of my subsequent PCs to this day. No other game I have bought can make that claim.

This Game Is My All Time Favourite Game, I Have Lots Of Fun Playing It For Hours. Forget Your New-Age Shoot-em Ups And Go With A Classic Blow-em Up Instead | | Amazon Reviewer | 03/12/2008 01:01:01
| | EA | Clive Barkers Undying PC | Played this when it came out in 2001 and was impressed with the games atmosphere, the graphics (look, walking through blood and leaving gory footprints) the double-handed combat, the arsenal of spells, the weapons from the 1920s (and elsewhere in space/time). Just started playing again on my laptop, and the game is still as great as ever. How could PC Zone have given this fresh take on the FPS only a silver award? A wide variety of scary monsters, great combat, blood spattering the screens (not mine, naturally - eeek!) time-travel, a dark, dark storyline underpinning the action. Some fantastic set-pieces too. Who can forget the scene where Aaron is painting a picture of some massive hovering nasty (a Greater MontoShonoi). His last act is to paint a man in the creatures grasp. You realise its you in the picture, and you turn around to see the horror right behind you! Classic! Only irritating point was having to go through the death scenes again and again. Did that quite a lot. Aside from that, an awe-inspiring game of atmosphere and FPS combat. | | Amazon Reviewer | 18/11/2008 01:01:01 | | |
| | Activision | Star Wars X-Wing Collector Series PC | This game is a sim of the star wars film so if locking horns with TF and Interceptors is your cup of tea go for it. I found using the ships abilities in a dogfight challenging and rewarding. I love it. Think CFS1 with sci fi!!! | | Amazon Reviewer | 12/11/2008 01:01:01 | | |
| | Contact Sales | Postal Classic & Uncut PC | Yeah, this game is fun if you like totally over the top shoot em ups, buy the Postal Fudge Pack edition though, its far better value for money, plus you can install it on multi pcs, as the disclaimer/statement of intent says at the begining of the game, violence horror and inhumanity BELONG IN VIDEO GAMES NOT THE REAL WORLD and should freely exist there, and for all the douche bag liberal chronic sympathizers out there, dont blame people for playing a game, go hassle a politician to end REAL WAR! | | Amazon Reviewer | 08/11/2008 01:01:01 | | |

| | Activision | Star Wars Republic Commando PC | Star Wars RC is an amazing game. I have completed it over and over again and I must say it is one of the finest fps games ever. My only gripe is that i wont play on 64 bit vista (which I have) so I cant play it any more but apart from that the game is fantastic. The gameplay is solid with a gripping story and interesting plot twists. Although the types of tactics and assaults are similar, none are the same and each one makes you want to keep playing. If you only get one game this year..get this one! | | Amazon Reviewer | 29/12/2008 01:01:01 | | |

| | EA | Theme Park Inc PC | If you have failed too many challenges your share price will be too low to win the game. You may have to start a new game and save before each challenge, that way if you fail it you can re-load with out losing shares oh and its a great game! so addictive.
