The Palm TX may be very elderly, but its by no means useless. As a PDA its far more reliable than the Pocket PC alternatives, and the Palm Pre means that there continues to be software developed and available that allows a serious amount of business to be done, as well as games and leisure.

Battery life is awesome, with most users getting the best part of a week out of it (for casual use) or a good 7 hrs solid use if you are using the wifi and bluetooth radios.

There are, inevitably, some small bugs, and syncing software is not perfect, but overall an excellent package.

This is a great gadget, but what makes it even more my pride and joy is
the fact I got it for a fiver!

I Discovered your-free-gifts.(remove space)com a few months ago. All I did
was sign up then completed an offer. I did the coral offer and wagered #5.
And then I won back my money anyway as well!.
There are many other offers I could have completed such as the 14 day free
trial with the DVD company love film.

After completing my offer I recieved my gift within a week :)

Have a look at the site there are many more stuff they are offering for
free like consoles, ipods, iphones.

I bought this as a bundle comprising TomTom Navigator 5.00. It has replaced my diary and still use it as a SatNav.
I HAVE to use an HP iPac for work (and I hate it) but I WANT to use my Palm TX!
Overall it is my 2nd favourite gadget after the trouser snake. It is VERY easy to use, reliable and fun with loads of excellent applications. I did have digitizer problems but I think I was to blame for that by treating the unit a bit too harshly. It was repaired under warranty and no issues since.
The Wifi is great for web basics but dont bother trying to view complex pages. The battery is coming to its end - it doesnt hold the charge for long - especially if I am using it for navigation. I dont like the fact I cannot replace the battery and that I will have to send it off. The swines will probably fleece me.

I used a Palm Z22 for 6 months and was delighted with it although the screen was small and the resolution relatively poor. When I upgraded my PC to one running Windows Vista 64-bit I had no idea that there were no drivers available for the Palm devices to connect to it! When I realised this I panicked for a whole day because I really liked my Palm, the interface the easy of adding appointments and syncing to Outlook.

Then I read the tech specs of the other Palm devices and realised that Id be able to sync the T/X device to my PC using its wireless connection. It was the only model which would do that because my PC doesnt have Bluetooth. Its great to be able to sync the device from anywhere in the house and I *really* like the extra clarity of the larger screen which I can even read it in strong sunlight.

So, I know that many phones provide similar functionality but I really like having a little, simple phone that just fits in my pocket and all my contacts, diary, notes, tasks etc on my Palm which lives in my handbag.

This is my third palm over several years and the best to date. Wireless works well. Screen is clear with a great choice of fonts etc. New programmes download very easily.
Highly recommended.

I have had several Palm PDSAs previously, all used with no problems.

I got this on purely because of the increased functionality. It is a very good PDA, but unfortunately it is very frustrating to use because of digitizer (where you touch on the screen isnt where it thinks you are touching)problems. Reading other reviews this really does appear to be a systemic problem and it really isnt good enough - shame on you Palm.
I shall shortly be reverting back to my basic but trusty problem free Palm Tungsten E.
I have lost a lot of my faith in Palm and would think seriously before buying from them again.

It worked perfectly for just over 12 months then the screen started to loose contrast on start-up and became very pale. This could be rectified by slightly flexing the case and was an intermittent but only a slightly annoying feature.
However, about 18 months after purchase the screen flipped 180 degrees and it was impossible to access data as the underlying touch technology remained in its original position. I did all the resets etc but still no joy. Contacted Palm and seems the digitaliser is to blame and will cost £110 to replace.
Lets do the maths £180 for original T|X plus £110 repair = £290 which over 18 months = approx £16 per month ...
Seems like it would be good money after bad.
Ive owned 5 Palm devices over the years.
This will be the last one.
Bring on the 2 year warranty!

I cant comment on how good the TX is once up and running, because I never got that far. It may have just been a fault in my product, but I never got the synchronisation software to work. There is an efficient technical help system, which started off being helpful, but when an essential supporting software failed they said I had to buy my own version, even though it came with the TX and I couldnt work it without it. They stopped replying to my requests once I threatened to return the TX. Amazon, on the other hand, were increadibly efficient and helpful and gave me a full refund no questions asked.

Good-Great for ebooks

Not so good-battery not replaceable, SDHC not read, browser-phone software dated

Had a lifedrive which was awfull! The palm TX is much better, its stable, easy to use, has wifi and bluetooth. I use it for ebooks(using ereader), audiobooks(using audio gateway) and movies(using TCMP), keeping me entertained at home and when I travel. It even lets me work on documents while travelling. I used to link to a gps for on and off road navigation. I still use it for on road navigation but viewranger on my nokia phone has replaced it for off road navigation.

The T/X is a great piece of kit despite its release being a few years ago. For all its venerable age, Palm OS remains one of the most intuitive and easiest mobile OSes to use, not to mention being capable of serious work as well as fun stuff such as playing music or watching movies. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth deliver good connectivity. In a world of smartphones and feature phones with small square screens, the 320x480 display rocks. Compared to a mobile or even smart phone, theres acres of screen real estate. This is great for doing fun stuff like watching movies or surfing the web, and makes it possible to do more than just read a Word document or spreadsheet (I use mine to work on the daily commute). The office suite, Documents to Go, offers compatibility with MS Office docs and upgrading to the latest version is highly recommended. Palms PIM apps remain among the best there are. Add a folding keyboard and a 2GB SD card and youve potentially got a laptop replacement. Mate it to a 3G mobile and you can have mobile internet. Although lacking the uber-cool possessed by the iPod Touch, the T/X easily matches its functionality(okay theres accellerometer) and vast array of 3rd party apps that extend the T/X way beyond its intended functionality (SDHC support, overclocking...).

There IS an issue with the digitizer (I had the problem myself), but ca canny and you should be ok. Sure, the T/X isnt indestructable (try tossing your iPhone/iPod Touch around...) but Ive found mine to be fairly robust (especially if you get an aluminium hard case). If the T/X was Palms last foray into the world of PDAs, then this was a good way to go out. Not perfect, but darned close!
