The first ever "hang on the wall" TV technology, Plasma is available in sizes from 32 inch right up to 60 inches and beyond and typically only 4 inches deep!
The top-of-the-range plasma screens now support high-definition video and most also have a wealth of digital and analogue inputs to allow you to connect virtually any device you have or may purchase.
Plasma may seem like the ultimate TV technology, but it has it's downsides. They are very heavy and if you are going to hang one on the wall it's best if it is a brick wall not a plasterboard, stud wall.
They can also consume a lot of electricity and some have cooling fans (can be noisy).
Image "burn-in" is also a problem, where stationary logos left on-screen for long periods can be seen faintly all the time. If you are using the plasma for TV and DVD viewing though this should not be a problem.
As usual you get what you pay for and cheap or old versions can have restricted connectivity and a picture that could be worse than a CRT TV.
As a rule paying less than £2000 for a 42 inch screen will probably require a compromise on quality.
Pay over £2000 and you should get an excellent picture with loads of connection opions.
Look for HDTV support if you can afford it as SKY will start transmitting this improved picture standard in the next year or two.
