Alex Fergusons Player Manager 2002 delivers the most enjoyably interactive gameplay experienced on a Footie manager sim outside the ultimate Championship Manager series on the PC. It mixes realism with arcade length matches and seasons (shortish) and a high level of influence over what your team actually does on the pitch. It lets the ability of the PS2 down a little though in its pathetically-3-years-ago quality of 3D match graphics which are a little too shaky (literally!!) and lumpy. It lets you chose to manage any side in England from the Conference right up to Premiership, it is also up to date with squads for the start of this season (think Veron-United, but also Stam-United!). All this aside Alex Ferguson Player-Manager 2002 is the best Footie manager sim on console gaming!! So if its a short season (3-5 hours, compared to CMs 3-5 weeks!) and highly interactive gameplay your after then this proves a decent addition to your PS2 collection, but if you own a semi-powerful PC wait for CM 2001-2002, its awesome! A good, but not ground-braking 4/5.

Reviewed by: Amazon Reviewer Rating: Date Reviewed: 07Oct2001 | | | This is the first football management game to appear on the PS2. Its loaded with stats, and every player you can think off. Once you buy this game you may as well sell your old games, due to this being so addictive, and providing plenty of sleepless nights, while you try to entice the star players to boost your squad in the hunt for league, cup and european championships. If anyone has played LMA Manager on PS1, then theyll love this. You control training of the players, hire and fire staff as you please, transfers, contracts and many more things. Once you win the league or the cup, try to have a smile on your face, unlike Sir Alex.
