ArmyMen games are well known to the gaming world as been utter rubbish, but this game is an out cast for several reasons. For a start, the gameplay is excellent, rather than been a 3rd person shooter like in most Army Men games, this game is a Real Time Strategy game, where you must build and command your own Army. You can choose between lots of different soldiers to create, from rifle men to bazooka men and even mine sweeper men. The game allows to create more soldiers when you upgrade and extend your base. There are also vheicles such as tanks and choppers which can be built. But be careful you have to manage your resources of plastic and energy to ensure you have enough left for rebuilds. The aim of the game is to control your army, from a birdseye view, and defeat the tan army, who have set up their base inside a human house. Alongside the main campaign mode there are a couple of other game modes offering loads of levels, which will keep you occupied for ages. The cutscenes at the beginning and end of the game are also great and charmng. This is a fun game and a great way to enter the RTS genre of games. Children will especially enjoy this game.
Reviewed by: Amazon Reviewer Rating: Date Reviewed: 22Aug2008 | | | this game is very fun to play it takes all the boring stuff out rts games like waiting around for five different resources so build some units like in age of empires 2 also for ps2. personaly i dont mind waiting around that munch but lots of people do so for that reason its very good. there are two resoures plastic and electric which u collect from house hold items like barbie dolls or watches i love detail on this game like the rooms u play in is it the kicthen the garden or the living room. also just because rts is simply but fun dosent mean its easy the game is fairly easy at first but then the missions start to get harder like with most games but u get medals for each misson u complete the higher the medal the stuff it unlocks like concept art or more maps for skirmish mode so your have work hard to get those gold medals. graphics and game play are great and is a game which will get new comers to the rts gener whanting more real time strategy games. overal this game is the only good rts on the ps2 so for that reason u should buy this game.

Well Army Men brings that to life in such a brilliant way. I thought I was 6 again and around my friends house, only this time there are no arguement about whos killed who. Its like, this is what would have have happened if your soldiers where alive. Its really realistic of those times as a boy when these toys where around. (Am I showing my age now? [31] Do kids these days still play with plastic soldiers and make airfix planes?) I really like games of this genre and became quite addicted to Age of Empires (for the pc/online) for a while, (a few years back). While that game was good it took a while to build up resources, armies and build defences; and then you go to war. This game is so much more simplistic, eveything starts almost straight away. After stetting up your camp and starting the production of men and tanks etc, the action is pretty constant. The game is really simple in its roots and therefore play can be quick while still being complex and strategic. This game is a great introduction to the RTS genre for any consul player who wants to get into the action straight away. Your building options are quite limited and do not really increase after a certain point but this is addressed by the different sernarios that are avaliable and the variety of the missions to be completed. Saying that it would probably be a great game to play online against other people which would take it to another dimention. Well worth the money if you like playing at war.
Reviewed by: Amazon Reviewer Rating: Date Reviewed: 20Jan2004 | | | To say that before this game id never looked at real time strategy games would almost be a lie. But only just. I hate them beyond all else. Theyre boring, slow and just dont get me going at all. Until now. This game has in three hours turned my opinion on RTS. How I hear you ask. Well this game just has so much character its impossible not to like it. The eight main characters a a very diverse group (although their characters dont develop) and the way they [sometimes] interact can have you in fits of laughter. The game itself is not complicated. You complete the mission objective by blowing all enemy soldiers away. Also impressive is the way that a different strategy is needed in every level. No matter what you say that is NEVER the case in any other RTS game. The main novelty and my favorite thing is that all your battles take place around normal house hold areas, like the kitchen and living room and you have to use normal household items as fuel and resoursces. Theres also the PS2 which is an inexaustable power supply and the level where you have to save a town of lego people is great. The controls are simple plus theres a tutorial that could teach a monkey to play this game anyway. If youre not into RTS games this will get you into them if you already are i can honestly say that this displays more character than any other game you could mention. Trust me. Try it!
