Well I certainly remember all the hype about this little title six years ago. So, being a Batman fan, I got myself a newly released copy at a cheap price of £19.99 at my local GAME even though then recent reviews had said it was a bit too lineiar.
Well I have to admit, the graphics are beautiful and really look like something out of the old cartoon series. The music score is excellent and gloomy. However some of the controls are a bit sensitive and slow, especially when fighting multiple foes.
However, having said that one cant help but have a hidden guilt for throwing bad guys off-buildings or into vats of chemicals etc as the Batman. You also get a nice handful of villains to fight (they go in this order: The Joker, Mr Freeze, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn). There are some unexpected twists for those who havent played the game yet and if you are a fan of the franchise then I suggest that you get it. Just dont expect the free-roaming ability of Spiderman 2, Ultimate Spiderman or Superman Returns.
A good Batman game, but not great. If youre looking for a great one get Batman Begins. ***

The graphics are gorgeous and the characters are well animated and voiced, I suppose in this respect it is excellent, but it is let down by the controls and the unhelpful lighting. The controls are over sensitive (I should be used to this as a Tomb Raider fan!) and when trying to make difficult jumps is incredibly frustrating, and makes the game very reptitive in places as you keep falling off, and the screen is at times so dark that you cannot see ladders or other essential parts of the scenery. Another gripe is that there is only autosave, you cant save when you want which doesnt help when it comes to the aforementioned jumps, also the camera angle cannot always be manipulated which again makes jumps difficult sometimes. However once you get over the areas where these niggles kick in the game is very enjoyable; running, jumping, gliding, using your batrope and beating up villians is really good fun and well executed, and I do think the game is worth playing although Im unsure I would pay £30 for it, maybe one best to pick up cheap, as I did, or second hand.

It manages to recreate all those great episodes where Batman tries to jump a gap, but plunges to his death. When Batman leaps across rooftops, wobbles chaotically in the air, plunges to his death. Or that great adventure when Batmans point of view decides to reverse itself and Batman plunges to his death. Or even when he carefully edges along a ledge, takes a step too far and, you guessed it, plunges to his death. Get the idea? It all looks good, dark and moody like the cartoon series but if the games a pig to play its not much fun. Even the tutorial is a bit lame, and some of the power ups in the game actually rely on you failing a jump to be found! Major disappointment.
