Ive had this game for a few months but didnt start playing it until yesterday, and now Im hooked! Some people have been saying about unresponsive controls but it is sometimes down to the AI, like when lining up a goal, the AI will sometimes start sprinting when you pass to them and then they end up off-side. It might have its little niggles but thats all they are, little. For me it doesnt take away the fun experience from the gameplay.

The item was delivered within time announced by the seller but it was disappointing to note that there was no option to change the shipping method.

The game however is awesome. There are some week points as well but overall experience is good. The graphics are simply great.

This is a very highly addictive game but it still has its fair share of problems that are not a big deal at first, but become very annoying the more you play to keep it simple these are the pros and cons about the game.
Pros:
graphics improved, gameplay slightly quicker then fifa 08, great presentation and music, Commentry good, great dribbling system, online play better then before, manager mode has more features, players make better runs, better finishing, excellent create a celebration, adidas live season means players skills updated weekly(however does not work in all tournemants), good offline session for 2 players, good new online features such as ultimate team mode, downloadable transfers pack to keep the squads up to date. be a pro improved.

Cons:
aI for the computer makes them excellent at tackling, poor collision detections, card happy refs along with some poor decision, goalkeepers can become unplayable when you are losing as they save everything, player movement is fixed so you cant run and move to the left or right slightly and instead you a 90 degree turn, Tackle system harder for the player, cant improve player ratings in edit player mode, computer can make poor substitutions, injured players perfomance is not effected by injury, can be slow at responding to commands especially online, can get laggy especially online, computer can out muscle you almost all the time and they can get pass your players without even dribbling, 99% of ur corner kicks will be cleared, free kicks almost impossible to score, shots lack power which makes it less realistic especially in penalties when you use full power and kick it straight only for the keeper to catch it and that never happens in real life and some glitches like players legs going through the defender to score the goal, computer ai fouls to much even when a player already has a yellow card. too easy to score when shooting is assisted and almost impossible to score without assistance,ai automatically do things you dont want them to do like clearing the ball out for a corner for the opposition when u could have got the goal kick, poor sim results (newcastle came second in the league when in real life they got relegated), computer becomes almost impossibe to beat when they are winning as players become better and then they become easy to beat once you score 2 goals as it can easily become 5, computer is too accurate at clearing the ball, players respond slow at times even when the ball is next to them and finally the the ref doesnt give advantage as much as he should.

Conclusion: All these pros make the game highly addictive especially when you can update the transfers and online play is excellent. There are many little flaws with the game but the major flaw is the collision detection is completely wrong as players will fall over as soon as they make contact with the computer ai. However, despite this the game is highly addictive and these features give it the advantage over pro evo, i only hope that they address these issues in Fifa 10 especially the collision detection.

... but only if you really like FOOTBALL.

If you are really into your football games, but wouldnt say you really had the patience or passion to learn the tactics of the real game, then dont buy this.

There have been a few negative reviews on Amazon for this game, and they all seem to be complaining about the same thing - fun and frustration. Many people have been saying if they wanted to play football realistically, then they could just go outside. Personally, I cant really understand this criticism as you are never going to be able to play to the level the game allows you to, and i also think that criticising a game for being TOO accurate is just bizarre.

There are negatives to the game. On PS3 the online is a bit hit and miss, sometimes you will go through periods of just being constantly disconnected all the time, but when it works, its great.

The manager mode is also not as good as Pro Evos master league. Dont ask me why, it just doesnt give you that same feeling of building a team that you get from Pro Evo. Thats not to say that its bad though.

The great thing about this game though is that it is just a total replica of the game of football. The movement of your teammates is just out of this world. Its some of the best AI ive ever seen in a game. You can play the game anyway you like. You can play long ball if you want, as long as its the RIGHT ball, but mainly youll pass it around and thats were the game really shines.

On Pro Evo, if you pass the ball forward then you cant really go backwards again. Your AI teammates just look to run nto the box rather than giving you a number of options like they do in FIFA. In FIFA you can build brilliant moves and score utterly spectacular goals, but its all a case of learning the game, having patience, and understanding how football in real life works.

Most of the criticism that ive read here feels like it has come from one of the many people ive beat online in this game. I dont mean to sound big headed at all, but most people tend to get the ball to their striker as quickly as possible and just run up the pitch and shoot. The guys playing like this are just totally stuck in the past. You may still be able to do that on Pro Evo online, but not in FIFA if youre up against decent opposition.

Its easy to defend against people who are just going to try and run around you all the time, just like it is in real life. the best way to score is to keep possession of the ball, build attacks and allow the AIs movement to create space.

That is the beauty of this game. If you pass the ball and keep it in the opposition half of the field rather than just trying to burst thorugh the defence on your own, then your AI teammates will make intelligent runs behind the defence for you. Thats how Ive managed to win quite a few games online. Its just patience.

So overall, this is the greatest football simulation ever in my book. If you have an open mind about games and want to actually learn how the mechanics work, then you will get a lot out of it. Its a fantastic game, one of the best of last year and I couldnt recommend it highly enough.

fifa 09 is the best football game ever this basically end the debate aginst pes and fifa because fifa is much better. if you support a team in the lower leagues like championship defintally go for fifa because on pes you cant be them. teh graphics is brilliant. manger mode has much improved it is very good you can buy any player all you do is type in there name. online is very good the people who play online are normally good to so its challenging. they have a new thing called adidas live season which has the players the rating they played that week so one week they could be a 90 and the next a 75. u can also buy a thing called ultimate team if you have live that is also very good. overall this game is a must buy.

Hey all! I got this game free with my PS3 and thought that it would only be temporary before getting pro evo as I have always been a lifelong Pro evo fan! However, I have now decided to stick with this game until the new pro evo is out..
Why? Because it has some great gameplay, with you controlling everything! Players make runs and the movement is good.. Also they have many many different leagues which make it exciting and lots of teams to chose from!
On another note however, the refree is annoying as He always blows after giving the advantage which gets frustrating... The tricks are incredible and the players stats varies with the position u play him in, which is brilliant as it really makes u think!
It only got 4 star as I always still prefer pro evo!! But its a good game for the price!!
Enjoy!

Since the mid 90s ive been a Pro Evo man, PES5 being the best football game there is, but the disappointing PES6, the disgrace that was PES08 and the flaw ridden arcade game that is PES09 led me to FIFA09.

It took me some time to get used to the, completely customazible, controls and the very deep tactics and formation options but since than ive been enjoying this great game. While i dont agree its a s good as some reviews mention (still some dodge keepers, defenders not responding accurately, manual switching between players always seems to give you the wrong player) its still the best football game on this generation of consoles.

Whether you play a short passing game or deploy the quick counter attack, everything is in your hands. And playing online, or even better, with some friends on the couch is as much fun as you can have. Definitly recommended.

This is an unbiased review as I have always had Fifa games and only once bought pro evo 6 (FIFA 07). I have to say that I was completely suckered by the hype that came with this game when I bought it in December 08. Everyone said, in magazines, the internet, friends, that this was the best Fifa yet, with unbelievable realism and gameplay and content that completely trumps pes. I have played the PS3, xbox 360 and pc version (which was a joke)of Fifa and all I can say is that it is thoroughly disappointing.

Firstly, the good things about this game is the great graphics (but a little plasticy at times) which give a wonderful atmosphere to your games, the slick options menu and the loadng screen thing which is fun. The funny thing is, is that I actually tried to con myself into thinking that this game was realistic and excellent just to justify the hype. But within two matches, i couldnt keep fooling myself. I have not played this years pes so this is in no way a comparison.

The gameplay is painfully slow, I nearly burst into tears when my Millwall (no-one likes us, we dont care)centre-half couldnt chase after a Leyton Orient striker, even when he had four yards on him. They seem to jog like they are wading through mud. The passing is also slow and buttons are unresponsive; the amount of times I have tried to judge my run whilst sprinting to shoot or release the ball and my player has completely overrun it into the oppositions feet. It feels like I have just wasted 10 seconds of my life. The gameplay is STODGY, not realistic, players turn like they have lead weights on their back and turn so slowly and the players seem to hang in the air for an eternity when they head the ball. Being a centre-back myself, it is a much more quick and aggressive movement. Lastly, although it isnt a fault, the most annoying thing is the goal celebrations etc. You concede a goal because of the near disabled defences and ur mate starts doing backflips whilst laughing with joy with a flick of his analog. This only serves to dent my pride and makes me want to lash out which I have done and cause serious fall-outs.

Overall, an over hyped game with good presentation but slow, way too wanna be over-realstic gameplay which loses the game its fluidity and fun. EA can do much better and people shouldnt listen to what people tell them as the reviewers in football magazines for example just go with the hype as well. I will see what FIFA 10 is like before pes comes out but if it is like fifa 09, im going to the pro evo side of the footy gaming divide.

This is my first review and have to say this is the best footy game I have ever played. I have played footy games on all consoles for the past 20 years and nothing compares to this. Game play is excellent you have all different types of passing, shooting and skill moves including special skill moves that are not listed in the manual. After playing this on manager mode I learnt all the basic stratergies and moves then moved onto online play where I picked up most of the special skill moves which are brilliant if you can pull them off at the right times. The only thing that could have been improved were long shots but once you have played as much as I have it does become easier if you try pushing the R3 button at different angles when trying long shots. Buy this game and stick with it there is so much to learn on it I keep learning new moves and techniques all the time and I have had this 6 nonths and play it 3-4 times a week.

As a football video game fan of over 20 years (from Sensi to Kick Off to Fifa and PES) Ive felt compelled to write a review of the game that has been awarded so many stars and sells in such big volumes (though I believe one of the main reasons for this is the brand name).

Now I have to put my hands up and admit that, first and foremost, Im a PES man but even I can appreciate that its fallen a little by the wayside over the last couple of years (though 2009 is a vast improvement over 2008).

Which is why I wanted to give FIFA 09 a go - heres a game that has apparently made significant progress throughout each year - with many claiming that its finally taken the crown off PES.

So, after borrowing the game off a work friend, I sat and began playing with a completely open mind. After all, I wanted a game where I could pick a League Two side and take them all the way up to the Prem (with perhaps a cup victory to boot). I wanted slick presentation and great online play (the two biggest downsides of PES).

With a few nights play under my belt I was ready to give my verdict...and its not good. I could go into minor detail about everything but theres no need, as the biggest problem area can be summed up easily.

Now call me old-fashioned, but in my view, a video game of any genre is ultimately about one thing - GAMEPLAY. When I sit down and switch on my console and boot up a game I want to enjoy the experience...because that, inherently, is what gaming is about. You can dress any game up in bells and whistles but if it isnt any fun, if it doesnt make you jump off your sofa, if it doesnt make you shout with joy then whats the point?

And this is FIFA 09s biggest flaw. At no point did it have me on the edge of my seat. I got bored of trying to build up the play only for my striker to balloon it over the bar. The passing was painfully slow. The crossing poor. `But its true to real life` I hear you cry. So what? If I want to experience real life Ill go out and actually play football.

Ill be honest - I was disappointed. Mainly because I really wanted to like this game as it potentially offered so much. Yes, the presentation is slicker than slick (and something that PES needs to aspire to) but this simply is not enough.

The reason for this review was not to turn it into a FIFA v PES debate - but I do have to say something. If you want a football game with the `correct` licenses and great presentation then by all means go and buy FIFA 09. And if youre happy to sit there patiently in the hope that something exciting will happen then go ahead. But I truly believe youre missing out on any gaming experience. Which is where PES comes in. It doesnt have the licenses and the overall presentation is poor (though the Champions League is a good starting point) but it has gameplay in abundance - itll have you screaming with joy when you bag a last minute winner. Itll have you slamming the pad down in frustration as the opposition grabs a late equaliser. Its arcadey, I know. But that makes it so much more of an enjoyable game. And dont get me started on the thrill it brings when a few mates get together for an evening of PESing.

When returning the game back to my work mate (who, for the first time, had chosen FIFA over PES) I game him my feedback. Now bearing in mind hed been initially singing its praises, he actually paused and said (rather defeatingly) `youre right - I dont enjoy playing it either`...

First off I love FIFA, if I didnt have this game my PS3 would rarley get used.

I have enjoyed FIFA now since the very first FIFA Soccer and got really into when FIFA 97 came out. I have dabbled a bit with PES in the past but found this more of a game to play with your mates for a laugh, no real challange.

I only play FIFA online because I find there is no satisfaction in victory over AI teams.

This is a review based on Online gameplay.

GOOD BITS:

Graphics are amazing especially on a 42inch 1080p plasma, the players faces and movement have been caught amazingly. Goal scoring is a dream, its hard which makes it even more worth while when you do score. The passing is fluid and the skill buttons are so natural.

Bad bits:

It takes ages sometimes to find a game. I cant stand quitters and think if you have a DNF % above 20 you should be banned for a week. I played about 6 games in a row where people quit because I was winning 2-0 before half time.

Sometimes the players seem to be in a day dream and wait for the ball to arrive at their feet even though a defending player is clearly going to get there first. The goal keeper is amazing at times and other times just plain poor.

I do love FIFA but there are always going to be glitches, you cant have the perfect game but this comes pretty close!

Being an avid FIFA fan I can safely say that this title has not let the franchise down. The usual fight between PES and FIFA is uncontestable this year, FIFA wins by a landslide. The new Be A PRO mode is an amazing addition,a bit of lag, but still very fun.
Everything has been improved in one way or another, from the graphics to the gamelay. Overall, a definite buy, far better than PES.

overall this game is the best so far in the series, and MUCH better than the tripe konami have released since the brillaint pes6, but the amount of online cheating/bad sportsmanship whatever u want to call it is unbelievable.

for example, you find yourself in the 88th minute cruising 3-0, then as soon as the opposition get posession they pause the game and quit, meaning you dont get the win and the points. you dont understand how frustrating it is. especially if you are winning say 8-0 and cant wait to add the scoreline to your stats.

also the updating system EA do after each weekends real life games have been played.. they have no clue what they are doing.
they penalise players stats rediculous amounts, (except for man utd, barcelona and liverpool who seem to be exceptions to the rule. even when torres was injured his stats wernt touched) especially strikers who dont score in that perticular game. what do they expect? for strikers to score in every single game?? it doesnt happen EA learn football if you are going to make a game about it.

teams like Man utd, Barcelona and to an extent Liverpool u should avoid playing against like the plague.. most people just resort to sticking ronaldo up front (out of position i may add) and constantly pressing the through ball button, and seeing as EA kiss and cuddle teams like barca, utd etc. every single one of their players are able to tackle, out muscle, out pace, and shoot from outside the box and score 97 percent of the time. and straight from kick off they can press the shoot button from the half way line and a small percentage of the time it results in a goal because for some reason when the whistle blows the keepers run to the edge of their box... and players like dirk kuyt who couldnt even catch a bus are able to out pace gael clichy who is one of the quickest players in the premier league. also, players like c. ronaldo and etoo you can straight from kick off run with the ball all the way through to goal and score without any player getting near you. and if they do its because you yourself run into them. HOW IS THAT REALISTIC OR EVEN FUN??

i sware to god a game has never made me curse and get angry as much as 98 percent of FIFA 09 players do. to be fair tho i have come across some really decent people who i have played against who havent quit the game with a minute to go and congratulated me on a win (because to be fair i do win most the time when people dont quit ;D)

How this game only got only 4 stars over all I dont know. This game is by no way perfect, but it is far and away the best football, argubaly sports game ever made. The AI is the best yet meaning playing manager mode is not just a schedule of boring matches against predictable opponents. For eaxmple playing Man U means lots of fast paced attacks to deal which leaves you space to attack, will playing someone like Hull will mean competing againt a 10 man defensive line. The best part about this game through is the online play, lag seems almost nonexistent making is completly addictive. Those who say pes is better are crasy, I loved pro6 but you have to admit Konami can not reproduce that quality on the PS3. It saddens me to say this but if Konami dont impove their product in 2010 then the pes franchise will die a death.

PES09 vs. FIFA09

Well its not really a hard decision. PES is far, far ahead of this cartoony, unresponsive rubbish.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!!! ITS A PS2 GAME ON A PS3 CONSOLE!!

PES has much better graphics, gameplay, fluidity, everything about PES 09 is better than FIFA. Just because it has got rights and has the name FIFA it certainly does not mean its better!!

I am not going to give a long review about this game but just a short straight to the point review. I like Fifa and PES but last two years for me its been Fifa. This game is fun, the pace is quite good, not too slow or too fast, feels realistic and looks realistic, commentry is decent and has great graphics and for me it feels smoother and really good to play. The controls are easy and doesnt take long to get use to. Heard some people say that this game is far to easy but I think it is just spot on, I really have had alot of fun on this years fifa and the online mode is fantastic! Be interesting to see what happens later on this year with fifa and pes but for me fifa 09 wins yet again.

These days, the odd yet enticing world of the Internet is ever more important to get full value of our games or consoles. Thankfully, such formulae as sports games will never die on that front, for we can just pick up and play without needing to blast up an American and save the world with your (certainly not mine) headset. Being a Pro Evo player some years ago before I gave up modern consoles, I was fed up with the repetitive nature of releases, but coming back to the world of FIFA has been a great experience.

Fluidity and more composed movement is definitely the main theme EA have been working on to catch up with Pro Evo. Gone are the days of FIFA 2005/06/07 where each release was basically the same, except with a fancy name for a new way of pressing a few buttons. This feels better. Moving players isnt stiff anymore. Computer controlled teams dont all move like robots and guard the goal like roman emperors. They have a life of their own! Even if a little wacky at times.

Player animation is beautiful - the player and ball are now 2 seperate objects that can collide in any way possible - not just a series of animations. Take one excellent example; youre the keeper holding the ball. Press triangle to drop it, and it just drops and bounces. Press circle to kick, and thats what the goalie just does. Kicks. And because of this separate process, gameplay is much funner because you can make some right howlers - press the kick button at the wrong time, and your goal-keeper will just completely miss the ball! Its fantastic, theirs nothing pre-planned about it.

The commentary was always something that Id laugh at during football-sims; particularly John Motson having more orgasms over balls being hit wide rather than spectacular free-kicks. However, our Sky Sports duo have done a fantastic job here and its a pleasure to here them talking rather relaxed, with nice relations to players/tactics/movement. Their is also a FREE commentary pack you can download from your Playstation Store link on the Main Menu, go check it out.

Graphics wise, I need not tell you what to expect - this thing looks stunning. The only thing I would say is that the Xbox 360 version does sport (excuse the pun) better coloring and detailing. But this is to be expected - the 360 has a far better graphics GPU than the Playstation 3, so theirs no point in complaining. The PS3 only has a better CPU, which accounts for performance; not looks.

The online features for this game are joy to play too - my favourite at the moment is the 20-player game, to which you join 10 a side matches and play as one player. Some people have also took things a bit further and scored some arty own goals from their own half, but its all part of the fun.

However, EA games are rarely perfect, and FIFA 09 does have a handful of issues that prevent it from being perfect in my eyes.

Firstly, performance - It may well be that this stretches onto the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game, but the frame-rate at times is poor on cut-scene motions, where the players act (and look) like baboons as usual, whether it be for a foul or injury etc. From a high performance console, youd expect smooth animation, but rarely is their any smoothness about it. The movements are drab in comparison to open-play, out of intermissions, which takes alot of the authentic character away. During the controlled gameplay however, it looks impossibly fluid at full frame rate.

The AI at times can be quite eccentric too. One perfect example that happens to me every game is that if the opposition has the ball on the attack in your half the field, and you let them run down the flank. Instead of cutting inside, while you stand still and let them waltz through, the AI player runs in a straight down line the flank, right up to the corner flank, makes a meal of keeping it in play, then runs back in field to pass. Hardly a convincing moment during gameplay, but as I always say, if it makes me laugh then I dont care, as then it becomes entertainment which is what gaming is all about. Unless you believe it is what you were destined to do in life...

Others problems can be seen online too - getting penalties for tackling your own players, crashing when you go on the Pause menu (as the Captain of 20-Player games) but luckily the problems are quite scarce. A quite dopey bit of research, technically speaking (I wouldnt advise using that in the Office to the boss...) is that the Replays sometimes show parts of the games from different angles. Great! But how is it possible to show a goal/chance from the opposite side of the stadium to where the cameras actually ARE? Just pick any large Stadium such as Wembley or Old Trafford, and youll note only one stand has cameras - not both. Yet this happens on every Stadium!

This is nit-picking though. I wouldnt have normally said that had I bought this game at its full RRP when it came out, but considering I got it brand new for under twenty quid, I dont at all feel robbed of my money. Its been amazing value, which is incredibly surprising given its so cheap early on its shelve life. At its current price, Ill allow those problematic issues to pass - this is fantastic value for money!
