SONY Little Big Planet PS3 Video Review

I cant really add to everyones comments...but..... This IS a really fantastic game. The whole concept of the game and the way it is executed is brilliantly thought out and so intuitive, Ive never owned a game quite like this. And for £12.00 its the steal of the century piping other stores by a good £4.00! Recommended for any age group whatever your gaming preference! and the best of all its only for the PS3!! :D

Little big planet combines many ideas in an original and enjoyable manner. The music, the game design and how the levels are crafted are a marvel. The overall polish applied to the game is exceptional, the designers seem to have though of just about everything, including the often overlooked replayability of video games. In this respect Little big planet scores highly, too.

Its hard not to love this game. But its often really, really hard to finish a level because the level design requires more finesse than the games control scheme permits. You may get stuck in otherwise very enjoyable levels, when the level of difficulty suddenly ramps up. Which is a pity, because the overall progression of difficulty in the level designs may prevent you from seeing the entire game.

Put another way, the degree and consistency of difficulty within the levels is surprisingly uneven, considering how much polishing the game received during development. This unevenness takes away from how much the fun the game otherwise is.

Having seen all the adverts on TV I was suspecting so much more from this game. The level designs are quite stunning but the game becomes boring quickly and to create a good level it takes traversing through the often tiring and tedious story levels.

I wasnt really convinced that this would be a worthwhile game when it launched and only bought it when it came down to £10. I was pleasantly surprised as its a quite fun little game. The limited depth dimensions in the game are a little irritating at times but the crazy characters and lands to explore make up for its shortcomings. Worth a punt for £10 but I wouldnt have paid more.

Basically, Im 17 years old, find it hard to settle on a game and hardly have time for gaming anymore. But for LBp, I make time and actually look forward to playing it.

It has endless creativity and its a great way to just channel your thoughts and dreams into a little cutesy world, its almost theraputic. Critisise if you will.

I rate 5 stars, because the game play is addictive, its great to play with friends (the amount of time my friends have screamed when they hit a bomb or something, its fun to watch them).

I recommend it, give it a go.

Well, what can I say! It sounds like I dont like the game but this is NOT true. The concept is brilliant the game play is great and the interaction between people is excellent (youve just got to play it with friends), although I havent totally got to grips with this aspect of the game yet. The reason for my relatively low score is purely that the games not really up my street. Yes, I like platforms Ratchet n Clank for example (awesome) but there are just games out there that I prefer (e.g. MGS4, Assassins Creed, GTAIV, Uncharted, Infamous and the list goes on). As for designing my own stuff, its never going to happen but for all you people out there with game designer aspirations, GO FOR IT; one day I could be playing your game!

If, like me, youve always fancied building your own computer games, but completely lack the programming skills or the patience to do so, Little Big Planet is for you. Im not generally a fan of cutesy platform games, so the playing side of things appealed to me less than the creative one - though as it happens, its a straightforward, fun, beautifully-designed game in story mode. It really becomes something special with the Create and Community modes - offering you the opportunity to create versatile game levels with a variety of tools and objects, and then share them online, or play levels created by others. Ive spent far more time - and had far more fun - creating my own elaborate levels than playing the games own ones, and this is where LBPs genius lies. This, more than anything, is the PS3s killer app, a game that should guide prospective buyers towards Sonys next-gen console rather than its rivals.

I bought this game for my girlfriend and of course I had to give it a go..... This is one of the most inventive, orignial and lazy games I have played. Why lazy you ask? Well, the developers have added the option of designing your own levels to play, and with these you can post them over the internet so others can play them aswell. This means the game has a lot of longetivity without any input from developers, haha. But this said, the game is very good, the main character is adorable, you can change his facial expressions e.g. angry, happy, sad, you can change his clothes as you find them along levels or you can buy downloadable costumes off the PS store, the Street Fighter pack looks very funny, there are also some free downloadable ones there too to collect. This means you can customize the look of your character as you play the game, you can save the customes to allow for fast changing mid game aswell.
The graphics are very nice when viewed on a HD TV, and it has a sort of cutesi-animie look when you encounter characters in game who give you a challenge or at the help points which explain the game to you. The narrator is Stephen Fry who is excellent, he gives it humor and he talks you through how to make levels, change your character and progress in the game.
The feel of the game may appear a bit on the younger player side, but it is a fun way to relax and progress through levels trying to find all the hidden costumes or trying to find the key to access a bonus game level.
I recommend this game to all types of players, it is a good price and it is very fun and well worth the distraction.

i bought this game a little later, a couple of months after it came out, when i first played it i just though, wow this game is good. good online community loads of levels (obviously) loads of unlockables and plenty of content but after the intro and the stupid tutorial i found that this game gets really boring really quickly, theres too many tutorials, the lbp network is out almost 99% of the time, you can only have 4 people within one game, theres too many story levels that are mandatory for getting level gear, most of the psn stuff costs money and is a complete waste, stephen fry never shuts up and the levels are so repetitive as its as simple as going from A to B, its also very very easy and too be honest id only recommend this game if you have freinds round your hous like i usually dude or you have some sort of mental disease like these god damn game designers 2 stars for co-op ply 0 for evything else

I bought this for my children and my comments here come from the perspective of observer rather than participant, but I have to say that this is a remarkable tour-de-force in contemporary video gaming and that it is most likely the best game a child could play on any of the primary platforms. What is unusual about it is that the whole family can be entertained and amused in much the same way as they might be watching a film together. It brings out the best in the high-definition technology and is at all times a wonder to watch. Its just as suitable for boys as girls, and probably appealing to all ages too. I think that if you have children and a PS3, you simply must have Little Big Planet, which alongside the likes of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue represents the very best that Sony can do. With all manner of on-line interactivity and creativity on offer it is the default choice for PS3 gamers, be they young and even not so young.

The game revolves around the players control of a small character, known as a Sackboy or Sackgirl owing to their appearance, in a variety of platforming scenarios. Though the game features a set of pre-built levels for the player to explore, the games customisable nature is equally important, from altering the players character and personal space, to building entirely new objects and levels, and then sharing and playing them online as part of the LittleBigPlanet community.

The games main interface is based around the players `pod` and three planets, each of which is focused on the three areas of the game; `Play`, `Create` and `Share`. These are accessed using the `pod computer`. The main Play planet is the `LittleBigPlanet`. This is where users access the main story levels and also serves as the main gateway to user-created levels. The LittleBigPlanet features an interface into the PlayStation Store where users can access and purchase downloadable content. The Create planet, called `My Moon`, is where players save and access levels they have created or copied. Each crater on the moon holds one level. The Share planet, or `Info Moon`, is where players can access their friends list, gameplay statistics and their hearted levels and creators. The user can select a person on their friends list to view their published levels, hearted levels and hearted creators.

As my daughter has just reminded me, as I post this, `This is the absolute bestest game I have ever had!`. Praise indeed.

There has been a lot of reviews on this game and most folk like myself highly rate it. Lets be honest tho, the game it self is very simple to play but at the same time some of the custom levels can be challenging.

The game itself includes an excellent tutorial and not before long you are in the thick of the platform action but its the community that makes this game come alive. There is good trophy support and of course there are some levels specifically designed around this, easy for you to get 8 trophies in no time at all.

Sackboy is a great wee character and there is plenty of costumes for you to download (free and at cost) from the PSN store for the little fella/lass.

The game has an online co-op mode which gives you the chance to play levels via different paths (some levels have paths that are for 2P only) and overall its an enjoyable game. You can kick back, relax and have some fun with your little sackboy, use your imagination and youll have lots of fun and the game is easy enough for the whole family to enjoy.

Its understandable that not many people will have played or heard the PSP game LocoRoco and that may be why LBP is so popular. It is almost a complete copy with the addition of a customising theme and the fact that its on PS3.

The one player story mode is the most annoying thing i have ever played mainly due to the harsh checkpoints. There is one bit near the end of a level that i could never do and as a result it sends you back to the start of the level meaning you have to redo 10 minutes worth of game over and over again. Needless to say my controller is now in many pieces.

The main appeal seems to be that sackboy is cute which seems a stupid reason to make a game and the fact that they lowered the price so much is annoying because the only reason for this is so thousands of morons spend ten times as much money as they bought the game on to spend on the Playstation Store upgrades and costumes.

i.e. it has only been made to make money from idiots by Sony who have just transferred a PSP game to the PS3 with minor adjustments(also Stephen Frys long, drawn out narration annoys me).

Why this doesnt turn the Wii buying general public towards PS3, I dont know, its got everything for everyone, its simply beyond comprehension how good this game is, and how much longevity it will provide.

As an experienced gamer, I was reluctant to buy a game that has been marketed straight at the kids/casual market. Media Molecules World of Fart TV adverts painted an immature and childish portrait of the game that alienated me as a serious gamer.

After hearing only good things about the game from various trusted sources, and the wild price drop on the title, I picked it up on a whim, and Im not regretting it now!

This title is beautiful in its own way, and MM have done themselves proud on the exceptional, if unoriginal level design. The levels are grouped thematically, with a half-baked, and somewhat unnecessary storyline roughly stringing the sections together.

If I had complaints, it would be the reliance on the User generated content, which, whilst hailed as the driving force for the next generation, ends up being disappointing. Wading through many, many levels to find a real gem becomes boring very quickly, and the heaps of free stuff! levels clog the system no end.

Overall, this game is worth the cash, but dont expect anything totally original, or longevity without sections of boredom.

Little Big Planet is a jump and run game spiced up with a lot of creativity. I believe that you need to like platform games to enjoy this game fully, but one might become a fan after playing it. It is a high quality game that doesnt really make any mistakes and is very adorable and loaded with entertainment. Several players can play simultaneously (co-op), which means you can hook several kids up to the PS3 and watch them play as chaotic as kids do. Play it as an adult and you also have fun. Who knows? This might inspire your next product, service or kind action to your loved ones.

I bought this game for my nine year old son and he loves it. The graphics are amazing and the ability to create your own levels and post them online for others to try adds a whole new (cyber) dimension. Plus you can team up with others online to complete levels together.
A game he will never complete. Brilliant!

This games is just so much fun. So many levels and different things to do. The amazing thing is even when you go back and play a level again you find more stuff.

I bought this game last week, i have played it about 6 times now.

There is a Story mode, where you play the levels alone. Then there is a option where you can play those levels with a friend. Also the option to just join a quick game, this sends you to a level created by someone who has the game and made their own level.

Your character can pull and push items. You can pull teacups, and little square boxes to help you jump to the higher platforms or over walls.

Yesterday i chose to play a level i was stuck on with someone online. So we both where on the level, and we finished it. It was fun, and a great way of cheating at getting past a level you are stuck on.

Along the way in the game there is stickers to collect, and also items, so you can collect a lions mane, or a bunnys tail, things like this. Its a good game, and im glad i bought it. The sack boy is cute, you can change the skin to many different colours, so you can be a pink sack boy. You can put fairy wings on his back. :)

Id recommend this game.

Keep it short!!!

You cant explain this game to anybody, when you do you make it sound rubbish!!!!

BUT.....Just play it, its the most fun ive ever had, its the best platformer ive ever played, the music is cool, the visuals are amazing, and due to the massive on-line community and the simple level creator you never have to play the same level twice.

Stop thinking about it and get it, whoever you are you wont be disapointed.

And at £14 its unbeleviably good value.

This game is one of the funnest games ive ever played.
After the launch of `Crash Bash` for playstation, there has not been a game that can keep up with the entertainment level of `Crash Bash`. This on the other hand, is possibly the funnest game ever on PS3. This game, meets and even beats any platform game. This game is packed with puzzles, riddles, and obstacles that only a fun mind can over come. With the Sack-Boy character this is just about as fun as it gets. Dont let me get started if you play with another person.

...I found it incredibly frustrating to use. I mean, the cuteness and originality is great fun to watch, however, after playing games like Tomb Raider where the controls are faily tight, I found controlling my sack-girl really difficult, especially as she can move forwards, backwards and towards the screen and back away from it (hard to explain) this was quite difficult from a fairly 2d perspective, as you think she is dead on route for the next jump, when in actual fact shes miles away from it...I think once you get past the initial levels and start building your own this game becomes much more interesting, but the lack of lives and having to constantly begin levels over and over again cos she just wont make that jump, can be slightly tedious...and the rewards you get are limiting. However, despite all this, I can still see the appeal and the narration by Stephen Fry is great to listen to, good value for £17.99..!

The Game is as good as the hype, thats the good bit. My 6 year old daughter loves it but can get frustrated and loose herself on the complex bits but generally 2 hours of quiet adult time is generated for mum and dad. Now the down side, there are over 350,000 online levels, so you will only finish the game if you are immortal and you need more hand controllers. These are expensive at £20 to £35 each and you can only charge two at once so you do have to plan ahead for multiplayer games and lastly if your Sony BD Romote has been used and is still on, the game interprets this as player 7. And you need an internet connection. We also own all the Lego games for the PS3 but LBP is played the most often. Ciao

Really good I love Littlebigplanet all my friends say Little big planets a baby game for 2yr olds! but I say Littlebigplanets the best game ive got, my Little brother can play on it which we normally do on 2 players. You can build your own levls but mines got only 2 stars im not very good at it. The campaign is very BORING! thats what took the star off so repeative! thats what dissapoints me but I do complete them for the Trophys. But for some reason I cant bare the Mags the Machanic levels I hate it! But still the best game out their and will be for a long time.

This game did not look much when I purchased it for my granddaughter for Christmas. But it is hilarious. It can be a two player game and we often play it together. You can dress up each character from top to toe. With different hair, eyes, hats coats etc, etc. The graphics are superb and the ideas of each stage of the game are brilliant.
I particularly like the movements of the characters, whether they are running, jumping, pulling, pushing, hanging on or whatever. The facial expressions are amazing, especially when caught by a hazard. I defy anyone who purchases this game not to be impressed.

I got this for my birthday and have been playing ever since. The story mode is brilliant and pitched at just the right level. But the game comes into its own when you create worlds of your own and share them with the eagerly awaiting online gamers. Its just the best game ever!! The 14 year old in my house has created some pretty good levels in a short space of time. If you have longer to spare, the world is your oyster and you can make it as ingenious as you like. The tutorial is the best I have come across - especially as its voiced by Stephen Fry. I cannot fault this game. If you have a PS3 youd be mad not to buy it - especially at Amazons price!

Probably the most fun you can have with your PS3 without devious use of the controller rumble function. A lot of the fun is in the community so to get the most out of this game you need a network connection.

At first a very exciting game that you cant wait to play. The first couple of levels you get really excited, but then, it just gets really repetitive all the time. Catching the prize bubbles and talking to one or two people along the way.
Also, some of the duo prize bubble challenges are really hard to do for example, take the one in Boom Town. One player has to carry a dynomite into a one cart, then the other person places a dynomite in the other cart while one holds the cart steady. Then one pushes a candy cane for a bridge for the cart to go down and by that time, your normally blown up becuase the cart has fallen off the candy cane bridge.
Also, the Create Your own planet Mode isnt the best either. First you have to go through all of the tutorials to learn how to use the items you want in your planet, (which can get so boring.)
A lot of the levels are hard for a 7+ game.
On the bright side, you can decorate your Pod, (where your sackboy/girl lives) and you can dress your sackboy/girl up in many different constumes you can download off PlayStation Store. There was a Santa constume for Christmas time and now there are Valentines Day furniture for your Pod (which are £3.99)
This game was a bit of a let down, but, a lot of people I know, really enjoy this game and play it all the time. I would rate Little Big Planet 6.5/10

I think this game is over hyped. Its basically a side scrolling platformer which is a good thing in my book but its just not that good, its not terrible either mind just average. The construction kit is good but Im not too interested in that I just want a good game. On the plus side the music is good and the graphics excellent but somehow it just doesnt grab me.

Im a bit of a gamer and have a lot of the best PS3 games out there. But this game is someting much better. Even my wife plays with me and now shes addicted. The online games are even better with people making games themselves.
You will be hooked within minutes as its got excellent graphics and texture to everything. The characters so customisable that my 3 yr old daughter has a sackgirl outfit!

If you have a PS3 then buy this game. If you dont have a PS3, just buy one and the game. You wont regret it.

LBP is a great game, I think its the best game for the PS3! Once you start, there is some great tutorials voiced by the exciting Stephen Fry. By completing the tutorials you can unlock great items to use in your own levels. In story mode, the are some exellent and challenging levels. If you want to start createing levels you will need to do the story mode because you can unlock contraptions, items, materials and more. But once you get to create mode the game gets even better! Though it will take you hours and days to create a great level, its all worth it. The last thing to do is share mode. It is amazing to see what all the other users of this game have created, some levels are absolutly amazing! Another great aspect of this game is the albility to heart other levels so you can play and find them easier because they go to the page, `My Moon`. It also tells you how many views the level has.
So buy this game, because its the best game out at the moment!

Hype hype hype... thats what this game had to put up with... I, like most people, had been really unbelievably excited at the prospect of this game but as it was hyped and hyped and hyped some more you start to doubt whether ANYTHING could live up to it but unbelievably it does! Its a rare thing but this is every bit as good as it has been made out to be for the last 6 months. Initially youre dumped in your pod which you can totally customize with the stickers and objects youll pick up on your travels through the Little Big Planet... You are then shown a few tutorials which show you all the movements and how to do this and that. I think the game would be a nightmare without these as theres so much to do and I personally would be lost without them! To get through the single player levels wont take you that long... collecting all the items and actually COMPLETING it will take you ages! The thing is you wont mind replaying them over and over as youll want all the kit and also the levels are just so good! My moon where you create your own levels is a spot of genius as well... Anything you see in the pre-made levels you can actually recreate... what other game allows you to do that?! You have all the same stuff (once youve completed the game fully) that the guys that made the game have... to me thats unreal! The tutorials for this are also in depth and will make the whole thing just a doodle... all you need is a bit of imagination and youre laughing! Youve then got the user created levels... Ive had a look at a few of these and some are pretty bad but you get the odd spot of genius which will make your hunt through the rubbish well worth while! If you can think of it someone has created it The best part of LBP though is the multi-player. Everything that is collected while playing in multi-player is given to all the players in the game... so if someone else gathers that Sackperson outfit everyone gets it which is brilliant. It is so much fun to play online with this community as it really is co-op. I was finding that if I got caught behind I was waited on or if I died the other players would go back to the respawn point and let me get back in the game. Truly co-op and a great way to play and so refreshing to see everyone playing as a team... inspiring! You can chat while playing as well and just have a great laugh... this is what online play should be all about! Another couple of things that I think should be noted that help make the game that little bit better are... 1) Stephen Fry... The man, the legend... The game would still be great without him but with him narrating its just pushing it over the edge! He really is brilliant and his voice is perfect for what hes doing in this... A stroke of genius! 2) Youre constantly informed of how your friends are doing... every now and again a little box will pop up (discreetly so not to intrude on your game) letting you know that so-and-so has scored whatever on such-and-such a level. So you know what the people on your friends list are playing and how well theyre doing... When youre playing a level someone on your list has already played their score is displayed so you know what youve to beat. I really liked this feature and it just adds to the feeling of the whole thing being a community thats constantly in touch with itself. 3) And finally the other thing I like is when you select a level you can read other peoples opinions of it in a sort of mini forum... brilliant idea! The one down side I think is the constant heart me heart me nonsense that is rife throughout... it really is quite annoying... if people like what youve done theyll heart you... end of story. This game is truly inspired... a must buy

This game is great fun for all the family and quite different to other games around at the moment.
Also if you have the time to, you can create your own levels for others to play (and rate) online. Making your own levels, you can make simple levels easy enough out of the box, but will take you some time to get used to the creation tools to get the most out of it.

Highly recommended

I first heard about this game a long time after it was announced, I was on several of my favourite gaming websites and they kept mentioning Sackboy and I had no idea what they were talking about so I looked it up.

I saw this game as a completely new perspective on gaming and a terrific idea but I wondered if it could be pulled off. I got the game and played it for a good few hours at first and realised that it was amazing.

The environments were brilliant, the story like none other and the characters being utter genius. This really defines what Sony meant at the 2007 GDC as Game 3.0.

Media Molecule has given us an original game with infinite amounts of creativity, the possibilities with this game are endless, even non-gamers will feel the need to pick up a controller and join in and for the hardcore gamers such as myself, there are a lot of challenges involved that are not as easy as they sound.

You can try to complete every level without dying which is no easy feat. Collect all items and use them to create your own levels. The amount of DLC released for the game is incredible in the short amount of time that it has been out for and it just keeps on coming.

I highly recommend this game and if you are a fan of MGS4, you should certainly buy the MGS pack that includes 5 levels and a bonus level of MGS themed fun.

It may look cutesy but Sackboy could be to ps3 what Chris Moyles is to Radio 1! Its a game where YOU get to make the levels and upload them for others to play. This means that if you are online there is always something different.Media Molecule have also promised a range of free and premium costumes and level packs.
With voices by Steven Fry and trophies adding to the mix of this platformer it is easily Sonys greatest game and also Game of 2008!

It is a good reason to buy a PS3 if the other outstanding games like resistance and uncharted and soon to be released hits like Killzone 2 and Resi5 or the fact that it is also a Bluray player.

This was an excellent piece of software to play.

The way in which the game begins is straight-forward and showcases the games developers, in-turn with the games basic controls.

You control a Sackboy. An innovative character, like what most games have except this character is extremely customisable.

Online play was great! The game really does emphasise the co-op(eration) of other users whilst playing online with more than one character. For example; there are parts where another character has to activate a switch (of some sort) in order for another Sackboy character to get to another section.

I have yet to complete this game, but for someone who likes platformers and creating their own stuff; I highly recommend this game to them.

However, for people who dont really like creating their own stuff or just cant be asked. Will get bored of this game rather quickly and may find this game quite repetitive like most platformers.

That aside, and with bundles of user-created content and on the rise, play this game once and try to not like it.

:D

This is my first time writing a review, but throughout this game, IT WAS amazing! It was so great going through the story mode, and playing multiplayer with my mates was even better. We would usually end up laughing all the time from dying!
I also like how you can edit your little sack person, and collect clothing to make it look like how you want. As well in story mode some were easy and some were really difficult. I would recommend this to anyone. I got it for christmas thinking this should be a laugh, but actually I really enjoyed it. As well as my friends who hate the games i usually have, they enjoyed even more than i did
I also liked the idea that you could make your own level, and try others accross the world, so if you got bored with story mode you can try another user level. but it is very ard to get bored with this game!
So whether your a hardcore gamer who likes blood or violence, or someone who likes something easy and smiple, i would recommend this to anyone!

This isnt the game for you if you like regular save points and really big guns. This isnt the game for you if you like in depth story telling and deciding about skill-trees.

This is the game for you if you like grinning. A lot.

Go and read the 1-star reviews here and remember; if someone says the Mona Lisa isnt a great work of art then that tells you nothing about the Mona Lisa and a lot about that person.

If you own a PS3 and have friends who dont get video gaming, show them this. Showing this game to mates has invariably made those with PS3s buy it, and those without ask when they can come back and play it some more.
