Reviewed by: Amazon Reviewer Rating: Date Reviewed: 11Mar2009 | | | Bought this game without researching it and have halfly regreted it. love the 70s feel and music but has drawbacks such as: -not many on foot mssions(there are 2 i think) -most of side missions i only completed because i wanted to unlock more cars -other reviews i have read say this game is a gta clone but it isnt because it has lame shooting and no interesting weapons just the basics(revolver,shotgun,submachine-gun,ak-47 and rocket launcher) -take a ride(free roam) is stupid as there is nothing to do and driving is just repetitive. -your only option is to speed down the roads at 90 or 100mph cos all the other cars go at 20 mph tops. -cop chases are idiotic as they loose you after 30 seconds!
There are some good parts to the game such as: -Big city to explore- new york is enormous but you cant do anything. -nuffin else
Reviewed by: Amazon Reviewer Rating: Date Reviewed: 18Aug2008 | | | This game definitely has a feel of the original Driver about it, and certainly provides several hours of fun on the main missions, with some interesting side missions thrown in for added longevity. However, the streets of New York seem rather empty, and theres not really a great deal to do during the take a ride option. Pretty good soundtrack though that certainly captures the era.
Reviewed by: Amazon Reviewer Rating: Date Reviewed: 17Sep2007 | | | First of all,
If you Google Driver 76 as of today 16th May looking for a review of this title you will be evry hard pushed to actually find one even though its been out for a few days. I took the plunge and bought it without researching which is something I hate doing as I cant stand the disappointment if its not very good, and im more than pleased to say that it has surpassed my expectations.
The Driver series has had a LOT of stick in the past ever since GTA came out and inevitabely comparisons were made. The original Driver for the PS1 was an instant hit and a game I really fell in love with, screaming through the streets being chased by the cops and timing you corner slide to perfection simply couldnt be beaten. Unfortunately as the series progressed the titles took a nose dive and we ended up with the pretty shoddy Drivr3 for XBOX and PS3 that had some shocking graphics and glitches a plenty.
So now we have a Driver title on the PSP and I can say that I get the feeling of the original in this game, they have gone back to basics with this one and the end result will put a smile on your face. Graphically its outstanding with realistic car modelling and reflections on metal and there is the usual debris carnage when you slam into the back of a truck. I felt that at some stages their seemed to be a little slow down when things got busy but it certainly doesnt detract from the experience. The controls are tight right down to the flashy Thrill cam if you press the up cursor, this basically gives you a view of your car in slow motion so if you pull off some cool stunts you can see it all in slo mo. There is only one problem for me and the controls.. there isnt an in-car view.... this to me is inexcusable, i may be wrong but i certainly havent found it yet.
You will get people saying its not a patch on GTA but what they need to remember is they are actually COMPLETELY different games. GTA is your sandbox style exploration and mission based adventure and 76 is a DRIVING game. Buy it.
