We bought this for our 6 year old and although supervision is required this is such a fun toy that it is no hardship! It is definitely teaching him about circuits. We absolutely loved the experiment which makes the fan hit the ceiling.

My grandchildren love to play with this toy which teaches them about cicuitry without them realising it. Would recomend it.It also shows them that there is fun things they can do away from a television or computer screen.

Ive bought this product for two of my relations ... both girls. Their families say that its extremely well thought out and immediately easy to use. The girls have had great fun making each of the experiments / circuits and there are still many more for them to do. The adults in the families have spent hours playing with their daughters, so its a great toy/learning aid that helps everyone to learn together. Brilliant product.

At first we were thrilled with this: its easy to use and the instructions are well written and informative. My 8 year-old son and I worked through the various devices together.
Unfortunately as we did so, it became apparent that not all the components worked. We were unable to do about 5 of the different projects and we were just under 3/4 of the way through.
The company did offer to replace any parts - as long as I identified which parts didnt work and sent them in. Frankly, this was more trouble than it was worth and the set got chucked in the bin. I see from other reviews that we are not alone in finding some parts didnt work: for that reason I would not recommend anyone else buy this kit, which is a real shame as it has the potential to be a truly excellent gift.

Id never heard of this before, but my son mentioned it. Reading all the raving reviews, I thought I should give it a try and that worked. My son loves it! Hes making new things all the time and is very proud of it.. I think this will be a great present for every kid who likes to build, but also for kids who are not that interested, yet, because with this they will be!

given as an xmas present to an 8 year old, he played for hours making various things, without too much help, and despite other items such as wii games, etc, being available. But a few days later the novelty wore off and its now been on the shelf for a month
the fuses have a tendancy to blow easily, a few spares are given but theyll not last long
still its a good educational toy, i hope he comes back to it

My son asked my for this product, I was unaware of it. It turned out to be a fantastic gift at christmas. He is under the recommended age on the packaging but this didnt stop him completing many of the tasks on his own. After he was asleep us adults had a few turns. Very educational, with lots of different tasks to keep them going. Some bits can be broken so some care needed. Overall an excellent toy.

I bought this for my grandson after reading the good Amazon reviews. I played with valves, discreet transistors and soldering irons like lots of kids in the sixties. Burnt fingers and a bit of lead poisoning aside, we learnt a lot about how things work. This kit to a degree sanitises and compartmentalises electronics but so what - it is highly educational, lots of fun and you get quick results that generate lots of questions. Just buy it - if only to play with it yourself.

My 6 year old son received this at Christmas and he absolutely loves it (and so does his dad!) On the box it recommends the set is suitable for age 8+ but after minimal instruction my son can make all the circuits in the manual.
The pieces are clearly numbered and really easy to snap together. The instructional diagrams are easy to follow and its pretty clear what each component does. I can see how that, in time, it will prove to be very educational. My son already has a basic grasp of resistors, switches etc and what they do. Maybe schools should have these sets.
With over 100 different projects to complete I am confident he will not get bored of it. He has had it for over 3 weeks now and it is still played with every day. Even with a new games console and various other toys this set has certainly been the Christmas hit.
The only problem I can mention is that unfortunately one of our little light bulbs seems to have blown already.
All in all a great buy for boys and girls of all ages.
I just wanted to add that I have recently emailed John Adams (the manufacturer) to ask for some replacement pieces and they sent them to me immediately free of charge. Excellent customer service!

Robust and durable, every component has a press stud at either end, making a firm electrical contact as it connects. A simple, clever idea, far better than springs!
My son is faster at making circuits than me, and deliberates less over technical understanding. I dont think he understands why a series circuit doesnt light two LEDs but a parallel circuit does, he just accepts it and dives on into various experiments, at random, achieving effect after effect.
Ive burnt a fuse, making my own circuit and overloading it, but hey, Im learning too!! I plan to go through the whole book, 112 experiments in all. By then, I should be an electrical wizard!

Despite his reservations over its education and entertainment value, Santa brought Hot Wires for my 9 year old daughter as they had one at her school but they never had time to finish the experiments, bits were missing etc. Santa neednt have worried though as it has already provided great entertainment for all the family with burgular alarms, birdsong, the radio and merry tunes. Those of us who remember the old 200 in 1 electronics set from Tandys will not be disappointed with this modern day equivalent. Whilst it might seem expensive on first viewing I can say that we have certainly had great value for money. And the company were superb when I looked for a spare motor given the propellor arms had broken on this second-hand set. A replacement sent totally free of charge along with plenty of spare fuses. Great to see that top class customer service still exits. Well done John Adams. Thank you.

My 7 year son had this for Christmas. I really hoped that it would be everything that he hoped it would be. We were not disappointed, it has really captured his attention and he especially loves the alarm!! Dare I say it, but I think it is a fabulous discovery toy for boys and even Granddads are suitably impressed and captivated. Worth every penny, best purchase this Christmas.
