Just got it as the price was attractive - Sainsbury special offer £27.49. Felt obliged to comment as per Paul`s point the remote simply doesn`t work past about 3 foot distance from the box. The best point was that the setup was painless but I will be returning the kit tomorrow; it is cheap, tacky and in comparison to my current Humax box is sub standard. I was seeking a replacement for the Humax because it occassionally crashes which means I have to power it off/ on to reset it but that is really its only fault. The Goodman GDB7CA would not be an improvement. Glad I kept the receipt!!

I was given this box as a gift and it`s my first experience of freeview (and Goodmans). Initial installation is very simple and the picture quality is good but these good points are enormously outweighed by the bad ones. The unit`s remote control as cheap as they come and in order to use it you need to be a `sharp shooter`, any attempt to use it when it`s not pointing directly at the sensor doesn`t work. On top of this is the fact that the unit takes about a second to respond to commands from the remote control - this makes using the online electronic program guide (EPG)(7 days worth) very difficult. It also makes using everything everything else very annoying. So far I`ve noticed the following: 1. You need to turn the unit off regularly or the EPG gets completely confused and shows programs for channels that you`re not watching. 2. Any attempt to use the `zap to channel` (channel programming feature) has only a 50/50 chance of working - recording to my HDD recorder is therefore almost impossible. 3. The favourites lists feature doesn`t work at all well - the unit just gets completely confused - so you need to stick with all the channels detected even if you don`t have them all. 4. You can`t select a program to view from the EPG - the manual says it should work but it doesn`t on mine. 5. There is no `now and next` facility - this is annoying.
This is all I can think of at the moment but generally I`m very un-impressed and wouldn`t recommend anyone buy this product. I`ve contacted Goodmans to see if there`s a software upgrade planned - at present I`ve had no reply. They`ve got a week and then I`m returning it and getting my money back.
