Having been using a Philishave HQ8240 8200 at home for a long time(I work away during the week). I bought a Remington (for work location)just to see the difference - wow - terrible, so I bought one of these and what a difference. It gives a smoother shave than the 8240 (and the dreadful Remington) and with the skin conditioner there is no need for any moisturiser (so the extra cost of the Nivea is not an issue).

Ive bought cheap(ish) electric shavers for the last 10 years, but my current one was falling apart - and after having read all the positive reviews of this item I thought Id spend a little more and treat myself.
A month later Ive just gone back to my old shaver and written this one off as a bad mistake.
Not only doesnt it shave as close as my clapped-out old Remington, particularly on my neck (so whats the point?) it also gave me bad razor rash. On top of that, it went through the Nivea moisturiser MUCH quicker than the instructions suggested (Nivea must be laughing all the way to the bank) - and its also very hard to find the top-up bottles anywhere other than online. So even after giving it a month, hoping my face would adjust to the shaver, it just wasnt worth the time, the rashes and the amount I was spending (and would have to continue spending) on the moisturiser.
Very, VERY disappointed.

I bought this but gave it to my dad as I dont shave very often. He likes it so much that when the original one died he wanted a new one. The wet shave, easy rinsing, and cooling gel are top features.

i tried using an electric shaver years ago and it was so painful it put me off for ages then i thought i would give it another go so i bought a philips nivea coolskin moisterizing rotary shaver and was amazed by its cooling sensation as you shave it was is comfortable to shave now and i will never wet shave with a normal razor again and it was is good that i can save so much time by useing it in the shower !! a great buy thanks to amazon

Using this shaving oil gives me the best shave I have ever had. Wet shaving made my skin burn, so I started dry shaving very many years ago, with a succession of Boots shavers. Now I have followed my son with a Philips HS8020 triple rotary, but I dont personally like the scent of the Nivea shaving cream it dispenses onto the shaving heads. I was advised to try this - excellent advice! With just one, or two, squirts of this shaving oil and no other foam or cream, I now get a very smooth shave, my skin feels delightfully moisturised, there is no strong smell of aftershave etc. Very satisfying all round.

Got the shaver at Christmas 08 -Now April 09- first electric shaver so done some research and this seemed like a good deal. For me it takes much longer than the usual mach 3 shave - going over the same hairs again and again is very frustrating especially when there are one or two that just wont go. I suffer from in-growing hairs which were regular with normal shaves and the Philishave seemed cure the problem so it was worth the extra time in the morning but after 4 months the shave is half as close as new and seems to take longer. Now Im going back to the traditional shave which is s shame. FYI my stuble is average and I shave every other day

I am pleased with the way this product works, I get a smooth shave quickly. My only reservation is the last 2 Coolskin shavers have not been reliable. The first lasted 10 months and was replaced quickly and without fuss by Amazon. This replacement has lasted 18 months and then packed up. I have decided to go with them again because when it works it is an excellent product and stops me getting a shaving rash and it now has a two year warranty. I went back to wet razor shaving while waiting and it made me appreciate the Coolskin system. Come on Philips make it more reliable like the previous razors I have bought from you which have lasted for years.

Great Shave but at a great price! The Nivea cream is about £7 for a small can and doesnt last very long! Luckily the shaver is waterproof and you get the best shave of all by using it in the bath with Tescos large can of shaving cream for 98p!

My girlfriend bought me this razor for Christmas, so Ive been using it for a couple of months or so, and I have to say that its the best electric razor Ive ever used.
Previous ones have left my skin red-raw and Ive not felt as though Ive had a proper shave, but this one is great - I look and feel like Ive had a shave (though not quite as good as a normal wet shave), and thanks to the moisturiser cartridge Im not in agony afterwards either!
The moisturiser refills can be picked up in Boots or here on Amaxon for around £6 and (claim to) last three months, so that makes it much more cost-effective than blades for a manual shave.

Ive been shaving for over 35 years using a variety of products, both wet razors and electric. My preferred electric shavers have always been Philips for closeness of shave and comfort, lack of skin irritation etc. For the past couple of years Ive been using a Mach 3 razor with shaving gel, rather than foam, but when I work away from home a couple of days a week & stay over, I used a 5 year old Philishave rechargeable. Lately the batteries in the Philishave were obviously dying and the shave wasnt particularly good anymore so I purchased the HS 8020 out of curiosity for use away from home. What a revelation! It looks rather delicate and doesnt `sound powerful` but gives an absolutely superb shave with no skin irritation. Ive been washing my face and applying a little of my existing shaving gel before using this shaver and I must say I now use it as my shaver of choice & the Mach 3 has been put away for emergency use only. Even using it on a wetted face without additional gel, (only the inbuilt Nivea dispenser) it does a superb job. I like being able to give it a good wash after use also. An excellent product at a very reasonable price.

The lotion 28ml for £6.5, you need a pot every 2 month.
the lotion cartridge has to be changed twice a year.
the shaver head has to be changed once a year, thats £28.

Ive had coolskin shavers for about 10 years, and quite liked them. I must say that this latest incarnation is really not that good. Battery life is about 1/3 of my previous one (battery died after 5 years), the moisturising system is not so good, but worst of all, it now takes me twice as long to shave, its just not that good at shaving the hairs, often needing 2 or 3 times longer spent on each part of the face.

I purchased this as it said it would improve my shave and has with the nivea conditioner, and you can use it the shower as well.
This is the basic model the others come with a dispensing pump unit, trimmer and quicker recharging times.If you want to spend the extra all very well but the other products do the same job for more money.
Shaving once a day is not a problem if the shaver goes flat you recharge it and itll be ready to shave for the evening (8 hr recharge).

shaving is the most hated thing in my life, but now its almost a pleasure with this baby. i have terrible dry skin but this is helping massively. gonna buy me a lifetimes supply of the shaving conditioner stuff too!

I normally wet shave and ocassionally use a very old Braun foil razor (without any soreness).
Thought as I was going into hospital this might give a better shave than the Braun and less mess than wet shaving. Tried it for two week before going in, left me so sore I could not shave for a few days, even tried using it in conjunction with King of Shaves oil as suggested elsewhere on this site, again left so sore that it has now been relegated to the cupboard.

After many years using electric shavers that dont shave closely enough, Philips have finally broken the mould. This shaver truly gives a close shave and can be used in the shower where it performs even better. The one negative comment I would make is that the nivea moisturiser that you need for this shaver is not readily available at most retail outlets.

Very pleased with purchase at such a good price. Had read that shaver was usable without the conditioner but now that it has run out my husband advises me that it is not the case for him (he is very fussy!). I shall be purchasing some refills after all, but the conditioner facility was part of what prompted the purchase anyway.

Looks the part But doesnt come up with the goods If your like me and have really tough facial hair youll it find hard to get the neck area clean shaven Its also a bit clumsy to handle Having to buy the Nivia lotion evey few months to put into it can become exspensive and lot of places dont sell it Had to get mine on line in the end Back to my Gillette Contour

I will not repeat all written before me on how good this shaver is for the sensitive skin. I have an extremely sensitive skin and I liked the idea of adding a moisturizer to an electric shaver. It works great although I would not say No more irritation. That is a slight overstatement. Anyway, there are two things I want to caution you about this shaver. First, this is an open system, meaning that the particles of hair you have just cut go through the blades and then fly into outer space, i.e. on you, your shirt. Second, these hair particles mix with the moisturizer and create a sticky mass that stays in the blade compartment. You cannot clean it in a usual way, ex. with water etc. One has to take to pieces the blades compartment and do a proper cleaning. It takes about 15-20 minutes and has to be done very regularly. Otherwise the shaver will just stop one day.

Ive tried a few electric shavers over the last 15 years and all have them have caused irritation, resulting in me going back to bladed razors. I decided to buy this over xmas as it was on sale. Love it! They say it takes 3-4 weeks for your skin to become used to the use of a shaver but my skin has been fine since they day I started using it. If anything my skin has improved over using my old razor!
Some people mention the running costs of this razor but I cant see it being any more expensive than owning a mach 3 turbo or something? The package came with a half size Nivea refill that has lasted me over 3 weeks of daily use, and to begin with I was applying too much. A 3 pack of full size refills on amazon is only 14.95 and will probably last me 3 months easily. Compare that to a few packs of those expensive blades and some gel and its about the same. But at the same time youre applying moisturiser as well, my skin feels great :)

This wet electric razor system just works! I now have the most comfortable shave ever and my face feels refreshed. For blokes like me who have sensitive skin, this razor is a must-buy! The one great advantage of it is you can even have a shave in the shower! it is totally waterproof. Im sure that this must be the best one of its kind on the market. Buy one today and feel 100%!

Faced with the need to purchase new shaver heads for my aging Phillishave dry shaver, I looked at the price to obtain replacement heads and opted to buy this excellent product.Its not a Mach 3 and nor does it use the same principles for shaving, well I guess you know that already.
It is a very good electric razor and I must admit to being particularly pleased with my purchase at less than £60. OK, is it as good in some respects as a traditional wet razor and traditional soap. It certainly does not give quite as close a shave, however, it it a bit like comparing an automated car wash with a hand car wash: both are good in different ways, but combining both methods can be extremely valuable. How is it better than a traditional wet shave for me? Easy for one who rises before 6:00 a.m to commute to work: SPEED. Wash my face, leave my face wet and using the conditioner shave in half the time - I very much need to soften my bristles before I can let even a brand new blade next to my skin. By 6:00 p.m. I can feel that my bristles have grown, but I must admit, I can when I use a Mach 3 too.
In regards to running costs, well the moisturizer does not last three months, but neither do a pack of Mach 3 blades and foam/gel either, so in terms of running costs, I would say that they even out.
I am neither an Aficionado of either wet or dry methods of shaving: for me a shave is a shave and whether wet or dry, as someone who can remember the old shaving methods of blades and mains operated electric shavers, technology has moved on in leaps and bounds - hurrah, shaving is still tedious, but a whole lot easier.
One last thing, my wife has a Mach 3 handle etc to shave her legs et al and I am no longer dependant on wishing to change my Mach 3 blade and find that she has stolen the last one - my backup is there in the form of my Phillishave.

Its important that its cleaned out regularly. It doesnt appear to say this in the manual, but long hairs (from your head) can get knotted in the cogs in the head, making it go slower and a lot more difficult to shave properly. Its quite simple to take the head apart:
- pull off the head from the body (it should un-attach with a little pull)
- turn each of the 3 rotors counter-clockwise to unlock them and remove them
- clean any hair from each of the 3 rotors and the cogs inside each
- pull off the three-pronged piece in the middle holding the white center cog in place
- pull out the center cog and clean off any hair inside the head or on the cog
- finally put it all back together in reverse order.
I recommend doing this every 10 shaves or so, but you may not get any benefit from it if you have very short hair or little / no hair at all!
Doing this will keep the shaver running smooth and fast and I am so happy with this shaver as its faster and cheaper than a wet-shave and having to buy new blades all the time.
