Dixons

Dixons was originally a photographic studio started by Charles Kalms in 1937 that grew to become the major electrical retailer across the UK with stores in almost every town. In 2006 after some years of scrutiny from various consumer groups and the UK Government concerning its dominance of the PC market, the parent company, DSG International plc, decided to re brand all of Dixons's stores under the Currys name (with the exception of Ireland and Airport outlets). Dixons now operates in the UK only through its web site selling some £688 million worth of goods in 2004/5. They specialise in all things electrical/electronic; from MP3's to fridges, microwaves, PC's and everything in between, with a strong emphasise on offering the best value possible for the customer. Stanley Kalms, the founder's son was, until recently, the company's Chairman and remains President for life.
